RE: State Parks

WE love the state parks in Louisiana and Mississippi, and Georgia.
We love our Georgia State Parks. They are beautiful and well maintained. We *have* suffered a few injuries while doing stoopid things and some illnesses that surprised us. DH fractured his skull playing around in a hammock--in a Georgia state park. I suffered a burst eardrum--in a Washington state park. DD18 came down with pneumonia--in a Florida state park. DS16 had a seizure-in an Alabama state park. DH developed altitude sickness in a National Park. And 2 years ago we suffered a roll-over while driving home from a Georgia State Park. As my kids say, its not a real vacation until someone goes to the ER. But in all the years we have camped in tent, pop-up, and trailer we have never, not even once felt threatened by man or beast.
Go and enjoy your new camper. :W Hey, it sounds like you guys could make your own horror movies! :W

RE: southwest New Mexico

There are three nice state parks in the Deming area: City of Rocks (north), Rockhound (south) and Pancho Villa (further south, in Columbus). If you want a detour to Alamogordo, White Sands and the Space Museum are worth a visit. And Oliver Lee SP is a nice place to overnight. Caballo Lake SP is pretty nice, too, on the way north if you're going through to Albuquerque.

RE: CAMPING IN WA $^^#**^

I don't think your 40' MH will fit into our National Parks in WA even when they are open. But there are plenty of state parks open year 'round and many will accommodate a large rig. I have to kind of agree with JoeChiOhki, though. You buy a behemoth RV and you need to look for something suitable and that is seldom public campgrounds.

RE: State Parks

Gosh, what movies? Guess I haven't seen them! I mostly camp in state parks and have never worried about security. My husband and I camped in state parks in every state shown in my profile and we never had any security worries. My only worry is that so many are raising their fees out of my price range. :(

RE: The one specific suggestion you would make to RV makers...

reduce the size of the black tank, and increase the size of grey tank. Amen to that! What do they think, we dump the grey water on the ground or something?? :h
Umm,
When boondocking in he desert more than a week, I regularly dump the grey water onto the plants that desperately need the water. I like my 59 gallon black tank, and put up with the 42 gallon grey tank. I can transfer grey water into the black tank if someplace like Yosemite, where dumping would be stupid and illegal too. In a crowded campground, dumping water will be dangerous to your health, as well as those camping after you. However when in the dry and sandy desert, the water is quickly absorbed into the ground, and I bury mine about 12" down, so no flies are attracted, and no mess or smell.
Yes it is still legal to dump grey water in dispersed camping on BLM land, Don't know how long it will continue, yet it was OK last time I checked.
What do all these environmentalists think? The deer carry around a bag to go in? Get a life, a little fertilizer will not hurt the soil.
Fred. I wasn't making the point that you couldn't dump grey water on the ground but most of us stay in campgrounds where you cannot and our grey tanks fill much faster than our black tanks. IMHO, the grey tank should be twice as big as the black.

RE: Medal Detecting

An all encompassing term to define those who focus on grammatical errors, spelling errors, etc instead of the question asked. I'm sure you got my drift. Perhaps we were merely trying to clarify the topic. But if I was out of line and offended the OP I apologize. :(

RE: Medal Detecting

Nice work grammar police, especially with a new member--guess you showed him. Mikey, welcome to the board, I do not know the answer to your question but in my very limited experience (I have never "detected") only Park Service Battle Parks prohibit metal detecting. However, maybe one of our good members who does use these devices will answer your question. Grammar??!!

RE: RV Plastic Components That Turn Yellow?

Krylon Fusion spray paint will take care of the problem. I painted my mirrors 4 years ago and they still look like new. It is available at any hardware store. Yep. I have a PVC cylinder on my rear bumper that contains my sewer hose and it had turned quite yellow. Now it's just as white as my coach. Works great!

medal? I'm sure he means 'metal'. But if he finds a 'medal' it might very well be made of metal.

Looks like it probably is a three-way but the bottom line is that it doesn't matter.

RE: Pet treats causing deaths

Give them a carrot.......crunchy, sweet and good for them
That's exactly what our girls get and that's it for treats...
http://www.grimmway.com/images/carrots/image-product-babycarrots.jpg Mine, too! He loves carrots. When he hears me peeling one he comes running! I just buy regular carrots, though, not in a bag.

RE: Why does grilled cheese sandwiches stick in the pan?

I use mayonaise, on the side that touches the frying pan, on my grilled cheese sandwiches and they come out perfect. Just spread thin and evenly on the bread and cook the same way.
Country Crock is your problem in my estimation
Country crock is butter flavored wax just like most margarine.Country Crock is a 'spread', not a margarine. Real margarine, while not NEARLY as good (or as healthy, for that matter) as butter will still give you decent grilled cheese sandwiches. IMHO, 'spreads' are horrible for just about any application.

RE: What RV Books Do You Carry?

John Steinbeck's "Travels with Charlie" a must read for every rv owner. Great for a rainy day or a lazy day.
Looks like I am going to have to get that book. Wonder if it is on kindle. Yes, it is! Check Amazon Kindle. $9.99.
While I enjoyed the book thoroughly and have always liked Steinbeck's writing, I actually preferred William Least Heat Moon's Blue Highways as a travel inspiration. Both are worth reading and both excellent writers.

Butter is the best. If you don't want to use butter, at least use real margarine, not 'spread'.

RE: How long?

We full-timed in a 36' Foretravel with NO slides and had more room than we really needed. But we did spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun. :)

RE: Opinions please!!

People we know who have Winnebagos are happy with them and they do seem to hold up a little better than other mid-priced RVs.
BUT...if you are having to choose between three RVs, it means you haven't found your RV yet, IMHO. Keep looking until you do!
