RE: Scary Handling Problem

My motorhome and toad combo used to exhibit the characteristics you described. I had the front end aligned, helped a little but still had the tailwaging. Added a blueox track bar, helped a little more. Added hellwig front and rear sway bars and bilstein HD shocks. Handling is much better and ride is quieter. In my opinion the trackbar and the shocks made the biggest difference.

RE: CRV tire problems

I'm having uneven wear on the inside of my front tires (Continental Contact 4X4) on my 2010 4WD CRV. Yhey have become very noisy as well. Dealer says that when being towed the front alignment toes out causing the wear. He also told me the alignment was fine and it was slightly toed out. I've also read lots of negative reviews on the Continentals on Tirerack, so I don't know exactly whats to blame. Mike

RE: How much propane?

You are far enough west that you will probably be getting colder temps. You will probably need to run your propane furnace at times. But you can never tell, you could have highs in the 20's or in the 50's in Maryland in December. I'd just conserve and if you run out and just refill.

RE: How much propane?

Where in Maryland, there is a wide range of temps between the east and the west. Mike

RE: Hellwig Rear Anti-sway bar

I have installed front and rear sway bars, rear trackbar and Bilstein shocks on my motorhome. I feel the greatest improvement came from the trackbar followed closely by the Bilstein shocks. The proper alignment is up there too. I would install the shocks before the rear bar and see if you are satisfied with the handling. The shocks are not an easy install. Different model motorhomes respond differently, wheelbase, overhang and weight distribution all factor in. Mike

RE: Draining battery

Unless you have the battery disconnect sctivated you do have some things turned on. I have found there is a video switch behind the TV that is always on, as is your propane/CO detector. I suspect there is a small load on the dash radio/backup camera system that is connected to the house battery. They may be others I haven't found as well. If your Melbourne is like mine it had a dual purpose battery not a deep cycle battery from the factory. Mike

RE: Thinking of a Honda CRV for toad, what's the story?

My 2010 CRV service manual says to change the transmission fluid every 2 years or 24K miles if the vehicle is towed behind a motorhome. I will be doing so in the spring. Mike

RE: Most worry free flat towing car to buy

I have a 2010 CRV and have had irregular tire wear on the inside of the tires. Found the toe alignment was off, also the tires are Continental 4X4 Contact (if I remember correctly) that get horrid reviews for wear on the Tire Rack website. Mike

RE: Jayco Melbourne Entertainment System & Inverter

Send Jayco an email asking them if the inverter is supposed to work when the ignition is on. I don't have an inverter in my Melbourne so I don't know. I have got good responses from Jayco's customer service on a few questions I've asked them. Go to the Jayco website and submit the questions there. Mike

RE: Could I use the RV to move?

When I was in the market for a box trailer two years ago I found most single axle 6X12 box trailers weigh about 1200 to 1300 pounds empty and have gross weight limit of 3000 pounds. A double axle has a gross weight of 5000 lbs. I have a 6 x 12 trailer and it wouldn't hold too much furniture. Maybe a bedroom set and sofa and chair or two. Mike

RE: Assateague loop preference

Are you talking about the National Park or the MD state park? Mike

RE: toms cove cg va

We usually like to get a site in the P section where there are full hookups and somewhat shaded. The waterfront sites are nice but don't have sewer. If its dry weather you don't want to be too close to the main road, there will be lots of dust. One thing you might want to check out, Tom's Cove has in the past had major problems with their septic systems when there have been heavy rainfalls. With hurricane Irene and the heavy rains forecast this week there could be problems. You need to call a few days ahead and inquire, I have never seen any mention on the web site. Mike

RE: Considering upgrade from TT

We moved from a TT to our Motorhome a little over a year ago and have no regrets. In my opinion its easier to setup and breakdown, hooking up the toad is easier than hooking up the trailer. Most everything else is about the same. The convenience of being able to use the bathroom and kitchen while on the road is great. I find it easier to maneuver the motorhome than the TT, realizing that I have to make sure I don't get into a situation where I need to backup with the toad. We have used our toad on all but one trip, If we didn't have a toad, I might feel differently. The one down side to the motorhome is that it is more difficult to level the motorhome since I don't have have leveling jacks. Mike

RE: Finely Decided on Demco and SMI

I got mine from PPL last year. I don't know if they were the cheapest on the baseplate, but they had the best price on the baseplate, towbar and brake controller combination that I purchased at the time. Got everything in 3 or 4 days. Mike

RE: Florida - Feb 2011

You guys are confirming my fears, due to my wife's unresolved health issues I can't make firm plans too far in the future. I may just put things off and go south later in March. Thanks for the input. Mike

Florida - Feb 2011

I'm in the early stages of planning a 3 week trip south for next winter, probably leave Maryland the second week in February and return in early March, with 2 travel days south and probably 3 days north. I'm looking at visiting Kennedy Space Center, the Keys, The Everglades and spending some time on the Gulf Coast south of Tampa. We will be traveling in 30ft motorhome with a toad. Our interests lean more towards the natural and historical attractions that the theme parks and shows. I'm open to suggestions as to places to visit in these areas. My concern is the availability of campsites for 3 or 4 day stays in some of these areas. Do I need plan this trip to the nth degree and make reservations for every stop or can I play it more loosely. Thanks Mike

RE: Irene Tried To Flood My Truck Camper

We had lots of water come into our trailer a few years ago thru the weep holes at the bottom of the windows, the water heater and the refrigerator. Wind can push it everywhere. Mike

RE: Old Brake Buddy and New CRV

I use a Brakebuddy Classic in my 2010 CRV. Works just fine. Mike

RE: DIY anti-sway bar upgrade on my E-450. Huge difference!

To add to Tito's comment, replacing the front shocks can be difficult because of very limited space and can be difficult but not impossible without lifting the front end. The rears are not near as hard but still a challenge without lifting the axle. The sway bars are relatively easy to swap without lifting. The hardest part of swapping the rear bar was reversing the lower shock mounting bolt. (I didn't replace my shocks when I did the rear sway bar) Mike
