RE: 98 Corsair 8ft camper roof repair and epdm replacement

The past 2 days have been fairly productive, finished construction on the rear of the camper roof and decided to pull the rest of the trim on the front overhang. Things got a little interesting when I removed the lower trim and water started dripping out. Decided I better remove the fiberglass front cap and inspect the framework for damage. Of course I found more rotten wood, this camper is the gift that keeps giving..... Anyway, I pulled all the rotten wood out and rebuilt the front wall. Now I just have one more small section on the front of the roof to repair and the new EPDM can finally go on.....
Here are some progress pics.
The rear roof complete..

RE: Need to replace rubber roof

I sure am glad that I have the ability and space to repair my rv's.. I couldn't imagine putting out over 3000 to replace a roof.. I am in the process of replacing a EPDM roof on a TC, factoring in some rot repairs caused by leaks I am only around $500 for materials and a few weekends of work....

RE: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C

I tried to repair the toilet in my 76 Class c and gave up very quickly and bought a replacement.... Couldn't get parts for the old one and if I could find anything for it it was 10x the cost of any replacement parts for the new one........

RE: 98 Corsair 8ft camper roof repair and epdm replacement

You did absolutely the right thing to strip it back completely - once the water gets in the damage spreads quickly, and I can see from the pictures it had clearly been getting in in several places. This is what I found when I rebuilt my roof.
Good luck - it looks like you have made a really good start.
Steve.
Nice job on the camper roof.... That's the first one I have seen with a welded one piece heavy aluminum roof.... It will take some serious abuse without failing..

RE: 98 Corsair 8ft camper roof repair and epdm replacement

Well, days off are done and basicly nothing done on the camper. Waiting for a couple nice days to finish stripping and rebuilding the roof. On the bright side, I went to the Chilliwack RV show and got some great ideas for upcoming mods on my Desert Fox.... I am now looking at buying a complete solar systm and 2 new 6v batteries so I won't have to run the gen too often. The kids can sure drain batteries quickly........

With all the stuff you are running on battery you might want to think about solar..

98 Corsair 8ft camper roof repair and epdm replacement

My dad recently bought this 98 Corsair camper unaware that it needed roof work so I am doing the repair for him. Thought I would post up my work. Feel free to comment as this is my first EPDM replacement..
At first I was going to repair the rubber roof but as I started to pull things apart I found that the roof was beyond repair... I am sure I could have done it but it would have looked like a patchwork quilt. The PO had driven into somthing and damaged the front right side, tore off the fridge vent and roof rack and damaged the rounded transition strip on the rear. If the repairs had been done correctly the roof would have been fine, but no, the repair was improperly done and as a result the roof leaked in several places.
I am being held up by rain as I do not have a shop to put it in so as I progress I will post up more pics.
I will also be doing a bunch of interior mods and general maintainance work...
Here are some pics of the progress I have made.
OOPS, posted them in reverse order..:S

Good luck trucker..... can't wait to see the finished product. Hat's off to you, so many rv projects are started with great intentions but life gets in the way and they never see the road again(my old dodge included) yours is almost there.......
We have bought a 21ft Desert fox toy hauler..... no more projects, just mods...
I still like step away from the dark side (Toy hauler section, lol) to check out your progress.

RE: bought an 04 Desert fox 21sw.

Have fun! Mods are half the fun. Try to hit the scales with it before you load it up, then after. You'll be in the 10% that know their weights and how much "stuff" they are carrying.
I definately plan to weigh it out both empty and full. It seems to be pretty well balanced when empty, towed nicely on the way home, no sway.

RE: bought an 04 Desert fox 21sw.

So the Desert fox is now in my driveway......
Now to start in on it.... first things first I am going to completely re-seal and detail it. As for projects, first on the list is to install a second queen bed in the rear. Checked the Happijac website and it doesn't appear that they sell a complete bed platform kit for it so I am going to haul out the welder and build my own. Next on the list is a generator, should be pretty easy to install as it is all pre wired.
Anyway, that is all for now.
The list of mods that I would like to do is getting longer, but that is for another time.

bought an 04 Desert fox 21sw.

We bought our first toy hauler today, an 04 Northwood Desert Fox 21SW. Can't wait to get it home and take it on it's maiden voyage.
I will post up a few pics once she is home.
Anyone have any good or bad comments on these units? It appears to be really well built, and heavier than most that I have looked at.
