RE: Don't get in to much of a hurry......

What is the light on the lower right of the speedo? Not familiar with the Ram cluster.

RE: HPFP ??

The truck is still at the dealer. So far they have it down to one bad EGT sensor and possibly a plugged DPF. Still waiting. Hopefully I will have the whole story in a day or two. The topic got kind of sidetracked so I did not post last night.

RE: HPFP ??

Dealer called. There was a code but they not state what it was to me. The code went away so I guess not a hard code that needs to be reset. They took it out for a test drive and five miles from dealership complete shut down. They will be checking codes again but as of right now they have no idea what is going on. That doesn't add up. On the Ford IDS, the code doesn't "go away" but if it is ever triggered, it is noted and recorded and retrievable, just not on the consumer grade OBDII code reader. The good news is the fault is clearly replicated --- though the above statement gets me eyebrows raised re the competence of the tech or the lack thereof. If they replicated it so readily --- it is something pretty obvious. This is coming second hand from a service rep lady that I have not dealt with at this dealer so she may be new. I am not pushing anything just letting them do their thing. She just called me late this afternoon to tell me it will not be ready today and they still do not have it fixed.

RE: HPFP ??

What is the maker(s) of the fuel system on the 6.4 again? And can someone summarize the HPFP issue for the 6.4? I think we have no info to suggest it is HPFP yet... but just what is the HPFP issue? I just got a call from the dealership. They still do not know what is wrong but are fairly confident it is not HPFP related. So it is looking good that the main damage was my ruined weekend.

RE: HPFP ??

Before I did anything I would wait and see what is wrong with your truck. May be nothing serious and Ford may fix it under warranty. Don't panic. Rick has everyone paranoid. First, I never said I agreed with the HPFP diagnosis. Too much additional information needed to pinpoint that issue. Yes, Ford will fix some things under warranty. My truck has been back to the dealer 3 times for repairs after the warranty debacle. As far as me driving the paranoia bus, I am hardly alone when it comes to Ford denials of HPFP failures on 6.7 and 6.4 diesels. The Ford sites have many documented instances of denied warranty with both engines. I am also well connected to the Ford diesel tech world. The honest techs will tell you the facts. The largest fact is that Ford requires all HPFP failures to be field evaluated prior to warranty coverage. Dealers are scared to death to do a HPFP warranty repair for even their best customers. The threat of warranty reimbursement denial is real...and scary...paranoid...not really...just living in the real world Regards There lies the crux of the problem. How much does it cost to get to the warranty decision? Hopefully the HPFP is not my issue and I am just crying Chicken Little. But I cannot help to feel like I am rolling the dice on what the ultimate outcome is. I do not necessarily have an issue with a denial if it was water. But if I am in it for a grand just to get to that point, it really limits my options. I guess I just feel sick that it could be the flip of a coin that could erase nearly all my equity in a vehicle. Part of me knows to relax and look at this objectively and part of me subscribes to everything you read on the internet is true. I have owned Fords almost exclusively for nearly thirty years and they have not let me down yet (other than the roadside service). So I hope I can come back in a few days and put this warranty thing to rest.

RE: HPFP ??

Heading to a campground today, info center comes on stating pull over safely or something similar. Barely make it to the side of the road and the truck just shuts off. No crank, no start, I think the computer shut everything down. 2008 job 1 with 75k miles. Had it towed to the dealer but they are closed until Monday. My biggest fear is the dreaded HPFP and I will be royally bent over by Ford. Anyone had something similar happen and should I lube up before head to the dealer Monday. Any advice on how to proceed if warranty is denied. If they deny warranty I sure do not want Ford performing the work but my guess they will have me by the short hairs with a repair bill just to get to the denial stage. Let me give you some good news mich800. IMHO from the info you gave us this won't be a HPFP problem. :) It could be a lot of things but I think you will pull a Po 242 code when you get it to the dealership. If you have an overtemp on the DPF the truck will do what you say it's doing. I think it's going to be an overtemp fault of some sort. It happens with these engines quite a bit. There is my crystal ball guess. Hope it makes you feel better. :) I am starting to lean in your direction. I will keep my fingers crossed and it is something simple. Ford roadside set my attitude by stranding me for 4 hours on the side of a busy road and very little shoulder. Wife, two kids, and a dog. The first rep told the towing company we were a Class A and they could not do it. Two hours later Ford thought we were picked up and realized we were still sitting there. Someone really dropped the ball. So maybe I am a little soured because of this and am taking the glass is half empty attitude.

RE: HPFP ??

Have you been draining the fuel/water seperator often? This is the first thing Ford is going to look at when they inspect the truck. If there's water in there, good luck getting any warranty coverage for the HPFP. Yes. I have had small amounts but never a WIF light. If that is a problem then why even bother with the separator. Just a joke by Ford to make you lay on the ground under the truck every couple of weeks.

RE: HPFP ??

I am just a little gun shy from the warranty denial claims here and on other boards. See above but: Lets have some facts here. What make and model? 2008 F250 Fx4 crew 6.4 What mods, tuners, etc. have you done? none What mileage? 75K What maintenance? Oil every 5K, fuel filters every 10k, all required mileage services, transmission, coolant, etc What codes? don't know, no tuner = no code reader Filled up on Thursday, died Saturday. Seemed to downshift a little more with the trailer in tow (lower power?), but not to the extent that says hey there is a problem brewing. All gauges normal before the pull over safely message.

RE: 1/2 tons and 5th wheels. Trailer Life magazine article.

Anyone else notice how the 1500 Rams are pointing towards the sky, and the Ranger looks normal? My question is what kinda spring helpers does the Ranger have? Timbrens. In my opinion the Timbrens made for the Ranger are too heavy.(1000lb) Debating whether I wanted to again try air shocks or airbags I decided to try Timbrens but the overload was minimal so I took a Saw Zall and cut two sides away on each Timbren to drastically reduce the load carrying capacity and get the same effect as airbags/shocks at low air pressure. The rubber is approx as thick as standard card stock paper on each side. Perfect! No help when empty but maybe a 200lb? help when loaded. No maintenance and yet slight increase in lift to keep the truck where I wanted it. Too many feed or fertilizer bags still make it squat to let me know when it gets heavy as we have no truck scales on the farm and loading ahead of the axle or behind makes a big difference as to the ability to carry a load. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q291/DSteiner51/e0671415.jpg width=600 Holy band-aid. And MacGyvered at that.

So they made $4 :) Really that is good news. I know my friends that work at the Tech Center have been very busy.

RE: preformance Chips

Wow... tame thread so far. These usually errupt into a battle and end up getting closed. Good info so far... IMO, chips are fine just be ready to "pay to play" - in the form of a higher instance of damage to your truck, possible voiding of warranty and, of course, the cost of the tuner. As has been stated... you're ulikely to save a bunch of money on fuel. And he has not been scolded for calling it a chip. I agree, to get any real gains (and that is maybe) with a new diesel you will need to delete. Plus the payback period for the thousand bucks or so to do it.

RE: making the RIDE a little smoother

Don't add weight, that will increase the amount of gas you use.I have 300#'s of sandbags that I carry around all the time. The ride is great and they don't slide around. Any mileage decrease is insignificant. I guess that depends on what your definition of significant is. The OEMs are tripping all over themselves trying to shave weight anywhere they can from their new vehicle offerings in the name of fuel economy. Aluminium hoods instead of steel, cast aluminium suspension components, composite beds, etc. 5 minutes on Google reveals a ton of info on how excess weight equals a mpg penalty. Here are a couple examples. "Let's start with the easy and simple numbers. The EPA says that for every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle, the fuel economy is increased by 1-2 percent." Source "Remove Excess Weight Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2 percent." http://www.fueleconomy.gov/My dad (bless his sole) had a saying, believe half of what you see and none of what you read and you will do all right. Sorry but you totally lost my interest after I read, "The EPA says". I really don't believe an additional 100#'s is going to decrease my mileage .02% let alone 2%. The key to this statement is "could", what they don't tell you is the test car was a Yugo. If you do a lot of city / stop and go driving it will make a difference. Highway driving probably negligible.

RE: Locks on outside shower

I would guess they are used because they are a reliable latch that does not open during transit and they already use them on other compartment doors. Just a cost savings so all the manufactures need is the plain old ch keyed alike latch for all doors.

RE: Gas prices

I don't think you can compare your income to the price of fuel. Maybe average U.S. income or some other measure. I would like to think over 40 years experience, education, and better jobs would create a higher income for a specific individual.

RE: Battery is GONE

Punishments need to be harsher to deter these scumbag thieves. Punishments like a finger removed the first time, next time the other hand, the third time one of your legs. We are too soft as a society and need to make people be accountable, those that take advantage of hard working honest people should be punished accordingly. Will never happen but I would be for it. I hate the first time offender slap on the wrist penalty. Anyone with an ounce of intellect knows it is the first time caught penalty.

RE: Pay at pump question

I can't figure out why the fuel stops limit the amount you can pump at one time.... It's not the credit card company... I can charge up to my card limit at the department store, but only $75 or $100 at the fuel stop.... Crazy.. Probably because you are not signing a charge slip like in the store.

RE: Ford Truck ABS & Integrated Brake Controller

How is this a flaw? There is an error light and there is a malfunction that needs to be corrected. That is how it is supposed to work. The vehicle thinks the ABS are activated and less power to the trailer brakes to prevent a skid. Get the issue fixed and problem solved.
