RE: two generators or one?

I am usually looking for hookups if the air needs to be running 24/7.Same here.

RE: two generators or one?

When I am running the generator, are you saying that the inverter will help with the starting of the air conditioners? I didn't think that the inverter was hooked up the the air conditioner circuit. That version of the Magnum inverter that PT is talking about hasn't been released yet.

RE: two generators or one?

I would look to a single 2000 and a Victron Multiplus inverter to pick up the surge or other short term loads as needed.I really wonder how well this would work. Wouldn't the 2000 be running at max anyways?

RE: Impressed with wired from Genuine dealz

All my wiring is from them. Great stuff and great customer service! Even their 4/0 is pretty flexible.

RE: Battery

If you are going to be dry camping you really need to consider purchasing and learning to use a clamp-on Ammeter to check your parasitic current draw and charging current. Knowing the battery voltage is only half of the information you need to manage your 12V system. Sears carries a nice DC clamp-on that should work well. DickX2, these things are invaluable.

RE: Battery Tender extension

Without them providing what gauge wire that cord is, it's hard to say if there will be an issue or not.

RE: Battery: Checking specific gravity

I pretty much go by what Trojan says and I haven't had any spillage yet (live on a dirt road). I'm not sure about the brass but if that's the only one that's corroding, I'd change that out.

RE: "CFL versus LED" An Interesting Link

I don't believe you, prove it. I live in Ohio so show me the Ohio law or federal law mandating special disposal of fluorescent lamps.Apparently it depends on your state and local laws whether or not you can throw CFL's in the trash. But they are classified as hazardous waste by the EPA. http://www.epa.gov/wastes/hazard/wastetypes/universal/lamps/frame.htm http://www.epa.gov/wastes/hazard/wastetypes/universal/lamps/ http://www.epa.gov/cfl/cflrecycling.html

RE: "CFL versus LED" An Interesting Link

But consider this fact; Every office building and every retail establishment in your area has been using fluorescent lamps for 50 years and throwing them in the landfills. The old fluorescent tubes have way more mercury than a CFL and even the newer fluorescent tubes still have more than a CFL.That's on them I'm not doing it. $27 to dispose of these properly for me (not including the fee the hazmat facility charges). That pays for a LED that I can just chuck in the trash. No proper disposing needed. You guys can go buy CFL's. Just because I won't buy them doesn't mean you can't. LOL!

RE: Battery

OP here. I am on my way to Alaska with 5 other women (the traveling widows!) we each have our own rigs. What PT said, there are parasitic loads. Since yours is a 2008, your parasitic loads are closer to 30 amp hours per day. Since you are only using one battery, you're going to have to use the generator often just to keep up with those loads. My trailer has about 20Ah per day in parasitic draw.

RE: Starting the Solar Power System

Doesn't sound complex to me. I just turn off the appropriate breakers but it's easier for me to remember because they're always turned off anyways (converter, A/C, and microwave....can't/don't run any of them at home so no need for them to be on). I have a separate standalone converter that I use for charging/floating at home and my disconnect switch isolates the batts from the coach. Might be complicated for some but simple as hell for me.

RE: "CFL versus LED" An Interesting Link

can't find one that's open at a convenient time for you? Really?Did I say I couldn't find one? No I did not. I said that I HAVE to go one to throw them away. Why do I need to do that when I can just simply throw my LED bulbs in the trash whenever they decide to die? It costs me $27 to drive over there (50 miles round trip in my car...DW's truck costs more). That pays one LED bulb and no hassle of figuring out their schedule (I exaggerated slightly on their schedule). Not to mention, neither the DW or I go to that part of the valley so we can't just stop by there on the way to do something else. It's WAY out of our way. YOU by all means can do that. Not I. I wonder if the CFL's power usage is lower when it's light output is down due to being colder?I've noticed that too. Also, the colder temps seem to kill them quicker (I used them outside too).

RE: Starting the Solar Power System

Should I invest in 4 6V batteries instead of the 4 12V AGMs?Flooded are cheaper and easier to maintain. Some, if not all, AGM's require a conditioning charge when capacity loss is noticed. Since you're on solar, you may not need that conditioning. Your Magnum inverter/charger DOES have a selection that allows for proper conditioning of AGM's. It's for Lifeline AGM's but if your batteries have the same requirements then you can use that.

RE: "CFL versus LED" An Interesting Link

For me, LEDs for the house are just not a cost effective option.Sure but you can't throw those in the trash. I have a small box of burned out CFL's in my garage that I can't throw away. I have to take them to a hazmat facility that's only open on the 4th Tuesday after Labor Day on every 2nd leap year.
