RE: Are Tiogas decent?

Oh mon. So much to talk about.
Corner aluminum moldings? NO GOOD.
Windows forward???? NO GOOD.
***I own and love my refurbished rig....after much personal labor. My rig is a 91 and had only 31K on it then and 60K now.
If, you cannot work on your rig yourself, following help lines from some of our crowd, or pay for someone to fix up your older rig, then ............it's up to you to chose rigs on your own that are newer maybe, but the knowlege base from some of us, cannot help you.

Replant,
What can I say but...'thank you'. I have had trouble uploading some photos I would have liked to share, but there seems to be a glitch right now on this site...... I hope and trust I'm not blocked for any reason, as my goal, GOAL, is to help folks.
Stay well, and if I do seem, 'seem' to get blocked again, please email me.

RE: Water getting behind cabover front/side molding

Every poster here so far, has offered very good info for you and some photos. They offer their heartbreak moments.
Pass it on to others when you can, as upkeep of these drivable boxes we own and love and that we bounce down the road, need more than what has often been produced by manufacturers. To keep them UP, we have to do it.
You can wait for this to show up 'inside' your rig, or listen to those with these problems and go for remedies now.
this is an inside shot, left side (both were the same)
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UYZvdqG9jyA/SSNv6ABVxtI/AAAAAAAAB1Y/Af_qEeoNOUA/s1600-h/RV+repair+photos+009.jpg
The molding around the Cab-Over corners, for near 2 decades as standard, has been an 'Off the Shelf' product, that has 7/16" x 7/8" coverage of the joint. It is an inexpensive molding that Could and Would work if the intallation of it was perfectly installed on a perfectly made RV....at least that's my drift on this. However, the ability to cover the joint seems to be a problem with this std. option. Recently it seems, a very few mfgrs are making a better/bigger/wider molding.(proprietary).............yes of course they have to spend a few dollars more to make them, but
IF, they do not seal the corner, you have to.

RE: Buying a Motor Home through an Auction

When addressing a subject/topic on a forum, I expect to chat about an 'object'; a piece of equipment of some sorts. Do not attack the messenger.
When a newbie of 24 hours, with at this hour, has already, 40 posts on THIS forum, chooses to call me an 'idiot' or states I should, " FOADie"(F-Off and Die??), I question the person a bit, and the forum more and moderator maybe more.
Quote of yours, addressed at me and others....: "I try not to stoop as low as you and people like you but sometimes one has to just say to idiots like you FOADie."
I can only feel I have waisted my time on this forum, as I am certainly not an Idiot nor is: FOADie, acceptable.
You chose to stand up for Cranky Ape and said, "need not come crying to me. " so I addressed you as connected to CrankyApe and asked civilly, if I was correct!
Being slammed by you does not work for 'me' nor does being wished or threatened with wishes of death.

RE: Buying a Motor Home through an Auction

Yes sir! Functional Illiteracy is harmful but maybe not as much as the fine tuning of the language....funcion literacy!
No insult to anyone, but the legal profession, advertising companies, lobbiests, politians etc. make their way being....well, quite functional in linguistics.

RE: Buying a Motor Home through an Auction

rgatijnet1, we agree for sure.
I have been an Ebay seller and purchaser for about a decade and 100% satisfaction.
-If not written correctly, I'll try again, 'Check things out!' Do not do as foolishly as I and 'trust'. (I thought I was being a help here to others and saying do not do what I did) Check out your purchases especially (as you say) big ticket items!
-as an aside: i saved all ebay documetation/photos/write-ups. I also ran body shops in my early years and know the importance of data. I now roll with the punches and did not persue anything...the delay was my fault. I also think is is a courtesy of the ability of our use of forums to speak honestly, wisely and courteously about our thoughts, choices etc.
-U are correct, when you suggest, I did not use due diligence, or common sense buying from Guatemala when my item was in Philly. I normally am on the East Coast but I was lax in my business dealings.
-for 5 years, I have written about this and my personal attempts to make thinks fine for me and others. No charge, no nuttin' but maybe helping a few folks that might need a hand.

RE: Buying a Motor Home through an Auction

The question I thought, was relating to 'truth in advertisements'
Now, If I got that wrong, I certainly apologize, but if I'm close to the thoughts involved here, then I'm in track, no matter how you wish to slam those who stand up for those who only go to auctions or sellers rarely.
We are NOT 'those in business daily' and make no profit.
We are only looking for some truth so we can bid on what we feel has 'honestly been posted'.
Sorry you are upset..... but still do get why!
Are you profiting from this?

RE: Buying a Motor Home through an Auction

Never heard of Cranky Ape before but have researched it to see you an ape, but thats ok isn't it?
- Ligit.. might be, as I certainly believe Ebay is.
-I and others bid rarely for rigs! However....I look for 'truth' in descriptions...to think I just might "KNOW" something when done.
IF the description is not 101% accurate, I cannot bid accordingly.
NO one should be crying to you... and nobody wants to. hope you get it.

RE: Adhesive strong enough to lay down the rubber roof??

You might be a bit low in your fuel tank. the fuel pickup on gensets is usually higher in the tank, than the pickup for main engine...so you can always get to a gas station.

RE: Adhesive strong enough to lay down the rubber roof??

Aspenliter and others have given GOOD ideas.
I would do my best to follow their guidelines.
A 'thought' would be to do what they have suggested, but over the top of all... add a Dozen 10'-- 2"x4's left to right over the top of everything. then...........strap them and it... all down....around and under the rig, -left side to right side, left side to right side/back and forth till done really TIGHT!-with lots of non stretch cheap rope/maybe 3/8". I think you will have a wind and rain event that this will cover. this would probably alleviate the flapping of the material and any water intrusion. You can use most materials later for something else...put it in your garage.
However...wrap it tightly!

RE: Soare tire mount / bracket

I have asked a somewhat similar question, looking for an underbody containment system for a spare tire.
I thought I had seen 'spare tires' under vans before, so why not quickly noted for those of us with Class C's (van mod's)?
I would much rather support the weight of a spare tire, underneath and close to the differencial, rather than totally aft!

RE: Volunteering and Taxes

Boy, this subject covers the spectrum for us, doesn't it?
Good folks all, that now 'can' get into the position of 'helping' somehow or somewhat and there is still a 'devide' between the mindsets.
I still have a foot in both buckets, liking to give and liking to be compensated. Guilty and Guilty. So what, I rarely 'take'.
Have been blessed to be able to 'give' quite a lot along the path, but can certainly understand that there just might be a very large group of good folks that can not do it without a little...."Little" help.
I would much rather have my country or state, subsidize a willing, able and 'longing' couple make ends meet to help others and not any where near the cost it would cost to 'place a company or salaried pro' at the task required to keep our National or State special places available for all of us, especially the next line up of kids and lovers of nature.
Respecting the minimal $'s that go out to these writeoffs etc. to keep 'real' things going/rather than closing them down, is something I recommend and support.
Yup, I do not need it, but I'll take a spot or some electric or ? but others might not. some NEED the income to make it happen in their lives.
What would it 'cost' all of us if it disappears OR only goes commercial?

RE: Buying a Motor Home through an Auction

I bought from Ebay in 08, while we were out of the country, so our 'pick up time' was to be delayed. Therefore, we do not fit into most anyone's scenario.
It took us about 6 weeks to return to US, then fly up to Philly to pick up the Class C. However, I thought and expected, by my prior 5 yr. experience with E Bay, that this would be a comfortable transaction/ not so.
Ebay might only be able to help you within 30 days and I was now, out 45 days.
The seller was a liar. My purchace had leaks and damage he claimed the rig was free from. He was a retired owner of body shops, selling this thru a family member, running the shop/s and photos were on his 'lovely' lawn.
I started a blog because of this as well as my work to make things right.
I would recommend that if an Ebay sale, you get there pronto, to make sure you are covered/ and preferably before you close . If any (and even Ebay sales) it is highly recommended to check the rig out for yourself and also have a pro check it out if YOU are not of that calibre.
Safety first, it's your $ and these are not $20 dollar purchases.

RE: Replacing vinyl strips with paint

A hint... use a thin 4" foam roller available at Home Depot/Lowes type stores, for about $1.+/foam roller/ in packages of 4-6-10. Spread the paint really thin and quickly. Then Quickly again, 'tip' the rolled paint from bottom to top with a badger haired brush if you can or another good brush. I have even done this with cheapo foam brushes for the 'upstroke' and that solves the sagging issues of going horizontal.
Thin...paint application is really important... come back for a 2nd coat to get a 'sprayed' look.

RE: Class C with no rear bedroom

OK,I'm really curious. I spent many years traveling in a VW camper, Motorcylcle camping, and an 18' Class C....and "Loved it all"!
BUT now, many years after, I chose a slightlylarger rig, at 23.5' so I could have everything I needed at my level.... without climbing up to a berth.
Yes, I'm not 25 anymore, I'm now 65. But BUT!! for the foot or 2 extra, why would you want a bigger kitchen, bath, etc. that is only used for minutes or a couple of hours/day, vs. a bed you sleep in 1/3 or more, of your travel time?
