RE: Horn upgrade?

Oh, my train horns have a special switch that will only sound when I hold it and it is mounted on the dash behind the steering wheel on the right side, so I have to really intend to use them, they don't just go off when I blow the horn in the truck.

RE: Horn upgrade?

I have train horns. I also have two sets of the Wolo "long horn" air horns that are mounted under the front bumper and hooked up with my regular horn button. They sound every time the stock horn does and are pretty loud. However some people are really into their phone conversations and for whatever reason need to get "shocked" back to the reality that I am about to run their dumba$$es over, so those fine folks "get the horns" as my wife calls it- the train horns. Go to this site - www.hornblasters.com I have the "shocker XL" set. I run mine with a constant duty compressor and a five gallon air tank that are in my in bed tool box. The train horns are mounted under the right side of the bed at the front on the outside of the frame rails. Yes they work and no, to my knowledge no one has died as a direct result of my horns....yet.

RE: Another reason folks love a diesel

Sadly it won't dispose of him until he has procreated and not only shared those genes, but also the mutation that was created in him when he inhaled all of those wonderful chemicals. That's how things really work, too bad Darwinism doesn't work faster.

RE: Who sez you can't tow a GN with a F150

Moving something down a side back road between farm lots or jobs at 20 MPH is marginal- maybe.... but on the highway or city streets with traffic is just ignorant. If you defend this person driving this disaster on the road then you just stepped on the pedestal with him... period, there is no excuse for this stupdity no matter how bad you "have to get the job done". Call a buddy with a bigger truck, get a smaller trailer and make two trips, rent a U-haul, etc etc.

RE: 5th wheel height concern

13' 4" and I do get "close" to the telephone lines on my street and have to move over on the back roads to miss overhanging tree limbs. If I see that big truck have hit them and see broken branches, I slow down and move over, my roof is not nearly as tough as a metal trailer corner. A few campsites have required a little angled entry to miss a tree limb or not backing ALL the way in. Our trailer is nearly flat all the way back with the loft in the back, so the rear is nearly 13' at the top of the back wall. Yeah, side winds really get us moving at 35' long and 13' high all the way back.

RE: Quick question on Pull Tests...

Pull test- with chocks in place, I don't want the trailer to move- period. Brake test- duh, after hooked up and ready to roll and lights are checked and chocks are pulled (last thing out, first thing on and I use X chocks that crank in between the tires tightly) then when I start rolling out I manually actuate the brakes with the controller and then with the brake pedal to ensure all functions are operating properly. These are two separate tests for two separate reasons on two separate systems, don't try to combine them you're just asking for trouble if that trailer does come unhooked during the pull test you might get it to move more than you think. Pull test is- back in and hook up hitch, get out and check pin in place in front and arm is latched tightly and lock latch pin in handle and then visually inspect hitch is fully around pin in back. Raise landing gear to allow 1-2 inches clearance so if it does come loose it will set the trailer back on the gear and the suspension of the truck won't push the bed up into the bottom of the trailer. Push back slightly and then pull forward enough I can see the hitch pull and feel the tension on the truck and see the trailer attempt to move (a good solid pull but not a hard jerk to TRY to break something). Go back and raise landing gear fully and stow inner legs and blocks. Then and only then do I go and pull X-chocks out of wheels and check lights and all other connections (breakaway, etc). That's my way and knock on wood, I haven't dropped my trailer or had it roll away or gotten out on the road dragging a landing gear leg or run over a chock or gone down the road and found I had no brakes.... etc etc. To each your own, but I like to KNOW each component is tested individually with something that critical. I am the same guy that checks and adjusts air pressure before each trip and retorques lug nuts before each trip and checks every light every time the trailer is hooked or unhooked and brakes too.

RE: RV's you regret owning!

2006 Coachmen 526RLS- my second trailer and the one I just traded in May for the new Cruiser. That Coachmen was a real total loser and its final bite in my wallet came when I traded it and found the rear wall had actually separated and all but fallen off!

RE: short list is shorter. Forum vets, please chime in.

I love our Cruiser, I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I got a replacement for the air mattress (I still need to go pick up) because it had a hole in it when we went to use it the first time. No problems, called the dealer and told them what we found and they ordered a new one and told me to come and get it, no argument. I had a price from RVW and used that to negotiate with my local dealer. They did NOT get to that price, but after adding freight to get it shipped here they were not far off- I bought from the local dealer b/c the price was close enough it didn't bother me and I get their service when I need it AND supported a local private business in the process helping keep people employed in my area. I wouldn't be without the BR slide, we are one of those who traded up to get the extra slide space and full size enclosed shower. We have the rear loft unit and I can tell you that there is plenty of storage everywhere. We camped one night in the mid 20's and the insulation may be better but the heat still ran intermittently all night to maintain 65 degrees, but we didn't get cold! The warranty is a big deal too, double the time to find the little things that are going to happen and get them fixed for FREE!
