RE: Trip Planning Software

Well, you can still use S&T, and get the results you wanted. I found the same faults as the OP, in dates and daily mileage. I was able to overcome the issue with a excel spreadsheet. If you create your trip, save the written directions as a webpage, then set up excel to read only the info on that page. Excel then transfers the data to the spreadsheet each time you make a change to your route (make sure to set streets and trips to save to webpage automatically when you close). As for the spreadsheet, input your start date, then have excel count days based upon S&T day number. As for mileage, have excel subtract starting daily mileage from daily ending mileage. Thus end result, is your trip by date and daily mileage. It's easier then it sounds. PM me and I'll help set it up for you.

RE: Balance Between Planning the Trip and Being Flexible

We took almost the same trip as you are planning. Since you leaving in Aug., I would head west to Ca. first. I then would head North, visit the must see's in Sept. (less crowds), then head back to Florida. As we are out for 5 or 6 months at a time, our planning is more along the lines of what direction to go, and what to see. The only time we make reservations, is if it's a holiday week-end.

RE: Campground Prices

We have Passport, members of the Moose, Elks, stay at Federal Parks using the golden access, we also stay at fair grounds. On travel days, we stop at Wal-marts, truck stops, etc., for overnights. It works for us.

RE: FL trip

I would suggest that you remain on I-95 to SR 40 (exit 268) at Ormond Beach, Fl., west to I-75. SR 40 is a less traveled road and will take you directly to I-75 (via Ocala) with less small towns, plus allow you to see the old Florida.

RE: beating that dead horse again over batteries

Thanks, I'll try to answer few of the questions tonight, a few will have to wait till morning..
I run normal electronics in the mh, no micro, no hot water heater. I do have a cpap I use at night.
While dry camping, I'll run the genset for about 1.5 to 2 hrs in the morning and evening. The current batteries are about 2 years old. So, is time to replace them.
I have drained them down to 11.6v, try not to but s#@t happens.
I don't have room for the 4th battery, so I have used the start batteries, when long term dry camping.
I have group 29. As I wanted strong batteries, but still am replacing every 2 years.
again thanks for the answers, as said this subject is like beating a dead horse.

RE: beating that dead horse again over batteries

Thanks for the answers, so, let me ask this. Which would be the better way to go. The 2 6's or the 3 12's?
Would love to have 4 6's but don't have the room, 3 is as far as I can go.

beating that dead horse again over batteries

I currently have 3-12 volt DC Hybrid batteries for the house, about 140 or so AHr each. Thinking of replacing them with 2-6 volt GC2 (T105's) with 225 AHr.
Thus, my way of thinking is that 2 GC2's are better than the 3-12volts, as my total AHr would be 450 instead of 420. Plus the CG batteries would hold up longer.
Is my thinking correct?

RE: flying j gas card

Here is the link to Flying J Fuel Prices. U can use this to judge what the fuel prices are in reference to other locations. FYI, all the major truckstops have a webpage with current prices for each location.

RE: Do you OPEN carry while camping with others?

Was the person from the area, or from KY? Remember almost all Law Enforcement carries their Firearm off duty. But if he doesn't fit in that class, then the sidearm should have been in the FW.

RE: Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel

The pull-off at the pier (midway point) is not set-up for large vehicles, if parking lot is full, u're not able to turn around. We had to get Law Enforcement to block traffic for us to get out. Also, note, unless changed in last year, no signs advising not to enter area with large vehicles.

RE: Club Memberships

If you're old enough you need to get a Senior Pass from the Feds. 1/2 price camping and very little cost. Besides PA and Good Sam we also belong to Escapee's and have used all four most of the time.
OR, if disabled, you can get the card earlier....

RE: Club Memberships

I have Passport (life member), Good Sam (life member), FMCA, Elk's, Moose. All of them offer discounted over night stays. As a fulltimer, any where I can save money is worth it. so, my yearly membership fees come to $180.00. My savings are 10 times that.
But check out the clubs, make sure you are going to get a nice return on the membership fees before you join.

RE: GPS Lane Guidance Questions

Mine tells how far before the merge right or left plus the on-screen display. I like how the interstate merge works, as it lets you know ahead of time that u will have that left merge.
My GPS allows me set how far ahead I want to start receiving the notice.
