RE: AAA Special Price

I have had AAA continuously since 1968 (the ERS, not the insurance). I currently carry their Plus RV coverage which (obviously) covers the RV but also my motorcycles and other vehicles. While my service calls have been few, mostly tows and a few lockouts and jump starts, I have never had a problem with them.

RE: Duro Tires.

Our first TT came new with Duro tires. Total junk - the tread separated on two of them within 3,000 miles. They're not called "China bombs" for nothing.

It's not always as bleak as other posters have portrayed. Sometimes it's how desperate the dealer is to make a sale.
We bought a new TT in 2007, at an RV show. The MSRP (a meaningless number, I know) was around $22,000; the "show price" was $14,500. Three years later, we traded it in on a smaller unit - the grandkids weren't interested in camping with us old folks any more so we didn't need a bunkhouse model. The 2010 (a Jayco) had an MSRP of around $18,000 and was on sale for $17,000. The dealer gave us $13,000 for our trade.
A week later, our old rig was on the dealer's website priced higher than what we paid for it new.

RE: Shopping for ultralight rear kitchen TT- any suggestions?

I have just bought a Jayco 24RKS, same floor plan as 242 downtheroad posted, and I love it.. The fridge really doesn't stick out, just looks like it on the drawing... I have TONS of storage.. I don't even come close to filling the cabinets, so I can imagine you would have plenty for all the baby stuff.. true it doesn't have a hard door between bed and lr, but the bath provides some buffer..
We also have a 24RKS (2010 model). It has an unbelievable amount of storage, way more than our previous TT that was 5 ft longer.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I misspoke - it does have a converter rather than an inverter.
The reason for asking about this is that after sitting all winter divorced from shore power, and after closing the battery disconnect, my new-last-season electric tongue jack doesn't work. The TT has now been on shore power for 4 or 5 days and it still doesn't work. I'm assuming the battery is low. Will try with the truck and some jumper cables.

Charging TT Battery

Our Jayco 24RKS isn't our first TT, but a question has come up that I've never considered before. If the unit is plugged into shore power, does the inverter charge the TT battery?

We stay at a casino every year and it is free and they provide electric service.
We have done the same. We have also found a few motels that have a campground. No amenities whatsoever, but most had full hookups.

Nobody has asked if your truck has the heavy duty towing package. If not, you don't stand a chance.
My tow vehicle is similar to yours: 2005 GMC Sierra 1500/5.3L/3.23 gears. According to the owner's manual, it is rated to tow something like 7700 lbs. My first trailer had a dry weight (useless number, I know) of 5840 lbs. Packed for travel, I'm sure I was at that limit or even above it. But I towed it over 12,000 miles all around the country with no problems. Did I wish I had more truck? Yes, at times. Was I uncomfortable about the tow? Not in the least. Take it out of overdrive, use the tow/haul mode, and let it downshift when it needs to.
Lots of differing advice being given. Ultimately, only you can decide if you're comfortable with the combination.

I work for a defense contractor, though we do not make vehicles. I am also retired military. The average person has no idea how harsh the tactical military environment can be or what demands it places on the equipment. That's why a lot of it costs so much. Your typical 1/2- or 3/4-ton pickup (HD or not) wouldn't last a week.
The military is also standardizing their fuel. Almost no vehicles other than automobiles use gasoline any more. Virtually all are diesel or JP-8. Same goes for heaters, generators, and everything else that burns fuel.

Not that much. Laminate flooring doesn't weigh a lot. Heck, my new Jayco came with it.

Not pertinent to the thread, but an interesting and funny story:
My wife called the other day from a gas station where she was putting air in one of her car's tires. Said she couldn't put enough in and was having trouble holding the chuck on. When I asked her what the sticker on the door jamb said the pressure should be, she said "220." Since I'm the engineer in the family, I had to explain that that number is the pressure in kilopascals (metric). It's equal to 32 psig.

Hitch couplers need to be properly adjusted…
When the lever is flipped to the locked position, the clamp is pulled up against the underside of the hitch ball…
Proper adjustment is critical to the safe operation of a trailer, so a adjusting nut is provided on the toggle bolt…
The fit should be snug but not binding. Too loose, and there's a danger of the coupler becoming disconnected from the hitch ball…
On the lever lock coupler, the amount of locking force can be adjusted to the diameter of the hitch ball… To change the amount of locking force against the hitch ball,
1) Release the hitch coupler-locking lever (to its straight up position)...
2) Locate the adjustment nut on the bottom of the hitch coupler...
3) Rotate the nut on the threaded shaft clockwise to increase tightness and counter clockwise to decrease tightness...
4) Remount the trailer coupler on the hitch ball...
5) Push down the hitch coupler-locking lever to its horizontal locking position...
6) Repeat steps 1 through 5 until a snug fit is obtained...
I'm on my second TT, and I've never heard of this adjustment! I'd bet lots of others haven't either. You'd think something like this would be covered in the owner's manual.

Where the connections are on your rig can be a factor too. On my previous trailer, the sewer connection was near the rear. On my current one, it's in front of the axles, almost in the middle.

I have no idea what the correct answer is, but will say this: unless the OP is a bazillionaire or claims a lot of unusual deductions, his chances of being audited are virtually nonexistent. I wouldn't worry about it.
