RE: Supplemental Brake... Necessity or Preference

Johnny:
The Towing World chart you posted the link to is not really accurate either. In checking three states (OR, WA & CA) that I have researched thoroughly I found that the list was wrong on two of them (OR & WA) and the third (CA) was incomplete.
Deen any updates or corrections would be appreciated...
Thanks
Johnny
Ontario car towing clarification (page 5 & 6), not sure if this is "law", regulation or policy...

Looking for single DIN DVD player w/o display

My rig has a Nesa DVD player, it works fine for ISO format disks but won't play any divx formatted avi files (I.e. downloaded content). Can anybody recommend an alternative? All of the box stores and web sites stock in dash car units with 7" displays and I don't want/need the display.
Thanks, Art

RE: Class Action Suit - Samsung TV Capacitor

China in general has lousy quality control and I suspect the bad caps are made there.
The company I worked for before I retired bought a facility in China and getting a quality control plan in place that our customers would approve was a tremendous problem for our quality department.
When Korea first started getting into the manufacturing game they had the same issues.
Hopefully China will get be forced to get it's act together and start producing quality components.
Not a quality control problem so much as a cost cutting one, I'm sure the capacitors worked to spec, they were just too low a rating for their purpose.

Hi,
I was looking at a vuqube to mount on my ladder and noticed the fishnet rebranded version is much cheaper, is it the same inside? I'm looking to use it with my existing bell expressvu service. Thanks!

Feb campground I-81

Planning a trip south, 1st night might be near Harrisonburg or Roanoke if we can find power & water, otherwise we might start the night before and stay in a hotel so we can get down as far as charlotte. Any suggetions on how far north we can get a spot that time of year?
LP furnace makes too much noise to sleep so looking for power.
Thanks,
Art

RE: Cheap/clean Wrentham MA post labor day?

There was a campground across from the Wrentham Village Mall years ago , I think it was a KOA , the site is now a Mobil on The Run in the front , and the back is a cleared level wasteland .
Ps
How was Your Trip ?
I went to Circle CG with mixed results, the laundry was clean and reasonably priced but at $50 a night for a back in spot after labour day I'd expect it to be a lot more level then it was.

RE: Liquid soap freezing point?

I second just taking the dispenser off the wall. Well at least if it's like mine and it comes off by just lifting up on it.
That's just it, it doesn't easily come off :(

RE: Winterizing and fabric

Not sure how much this really helps but it wasn't terribly expensive, and each dish full of stuff in maybe a half cupful? It lasts a long time and I bought a big gallon jug of it.
If it works in Vancouver weather it should work in Kingston, thanks ;)

Winterizing and fabric

I can't find anything that covers this in the FAQ so here goes:
Is there a need to do anything to protect the fabric and foam in the furniture from getting damp/dank over the Canadian winter? I know we sometimes will get a few freeze/thaw cycles. We could take the dinnette cushions inside but not the sofa or the overhead bed.
I've notice some of the "anti damp" crystals on sale look suspsiously like cat litter, I'm wondering if a tray of that would do as much good as anything.
Thanks,
Art.

Winterizing and batteries

Hi, I can't find anything in the FAQ that covers this so:
If you live in the freezing areas (ie Canada) do you leave your house batteries in the rig over winter or bring them inside?

RE: Advice from Canadians who head south.

Any way of predicting what fuel stations require a zip code be entered before using a credit card? That's always been a pet peave of mine. It doesn't seem to be by brand or location, it's just the whim of that particular service centre?
I don't like leaving my card with the clerk (it got skimmed once) and of course it won't take a postal code so it means I have to pay and short fill or find another station.

RE: Cheap/clean Wrentham MA post labor day?

Thanks, 24' I wasn't going to get my moneys worth from Normandy Farms (or Circle CG/KOA) and I couldn't get Canoe River's website up either. I didn't want to drive an hour to save $20 though.. so I guess one of those will do.

Looking for power/water/dump for a couple of days but all the campsites I've found so far are "resorts".

RE: Towbar

The major differences are "convenience".
For the person planning on towing a TR3, keep in mind that the towbar must be very close to level when hooked up. It doesn't matter what size towed vehicle, the towbar must be close to level, at least no more than a 4 inch difference in height. That's a "rule of thumb", not a definitive measurement. "As close as possible to level" is the
operative rule.
Good to know, that was one of my concerns, the TR3 frame is only about 4-6" off the ground so I'm worried I'd have to lower the ball so much that it would take a chunk out of every curb I had to cross.

RE: Towbar

What car are you thinking about towing?
I sometimes tow my 1959 Austin Healey.
Tim
'60 Triumph TR3 so weight would be similar, behind an '07 Winnie View (sprinter based C).
There's a couple of good points on the frame where I could bolt a bracket on, I don't want it to be any lower then the frame already is and they'd have to come foward far enough so that the bar doesn't come into contact with the underside of the front bumper as I think even the lowest ball I can put on the trailer will still end up being slightly above the level of the TR's frame.

RE: Towbar

I take it that the OP was wondering (as I am) what the difference is between the $80 tow bars and the $800 ones assuming their capacity is rated similar. I'm looking to tow an older lighter british sports car so I'll have to fabracate a mounting bracket regardless of brand.
Local parts store has a 5k one for $70 right now.
