RE: How does CW recruit, train, audit managers, technicians?

I owned an auto repair facility for 34yrs before I sold out and retired, and I will give you some insight, first on ASE certification, all my shop people and myself was ASE certified, and I can assure you if you can read a book and retain what you read you can be certified, it looks good on the wall but in reality it's not a guarentee your getting a top notch tech to do anything...another thing is employee turnover, it's a huge problem, if you do have a really good tech you can bet somebody is trying to lure them away and alot of times it works, as as far as cost it's pretty expensive to train a good tech, if you send them away to a training class you have to pay them travel time, the regular hours they are supposed to be working and then you pay for all the meals, it can get really expensive and then after all that is done there is a really good chance that within a reasonable amount of time the tech will leave, we even tried to have them sign a wavier that if they left in a certain amout of time they had to pay for the training, I landed up in court and found out that you leagally can't do that...a shop like CW is not going to turn any business away, they work on a flat rate and if it's not done right and you have to come back the tech is the one who takes the hit, he spends his time to fix it, and a tech will take any job from the board, they beed the hours and the business needs the cash so for them to chance that they can repair it abd get it right is way better than sittting on your backside with nothing to do and not making any money...I do understand your frustration, I had some work done by CW and it was a mess, they are almost 100 miles from where I live and I didn't like the going back part, but I did it, if you don't like or trust them then I would advise you to just buy from where you feel comfortable, sometimes paying alittle more is worth it in the long road, and that works on both sides, customers, and the store...in my operations there were people I just didn't want to do business with and I just told them to find another shop...better to weed them out that put up with a customer who doesn't trust you or believe what you say...remember the tech really wants to repair your camper and he wants to do it right and as quick as he can, and he sure wants to beat the clock as far as time goes, I wish you luck in the futire but the next time you go to CW the tech you worked with the last time may not even be there when you go back...

RE: Eternabond

I did mine when it was about a week old, the roof was nice and clean and the dicor was clean, I did every opening I could find, even around the antenna, I also changed all the sewer caps and put the cyclone vents on, it took me a few days to do the job but we have never had any kind of a water and with my luck I was pretty sure I was going to get one....one of the main reasons I did mine was because of the ladder, the ladder on the roof wes real close to the seam where the rear cap and the rubber roof met, I was afraid that the dicor seal would break when you stepped that close the seam, so I covered everything I can tell you that is worth every penney, and easier to fix it before you get a water problem...

RE: Solid Surface Counters

we had all corian counter tops inside our house, once a year we had the installer come in and sand and buff all the corian, it looked real nice after they were done, we also had a corian sink, and they also buffed and cleaned that we got tired of screwing around and got rid of all the corian and had quartz installed, it looks nicer, not as bland as the corian and much easier to care for...

Gel coat cleaner

My 5th wheel is an 06, and it has not moved off my driveway for the last 3yrs, this year we are planning on using it, the unit has never been waxed it get washed pretty regular but never waxed, it has a slight film on the gelcoat and I want to get it all waxed and buffed, before Christmas I asked for some help in finding a buffer and you guys really came thru and I ordered the buffer my question now is what do you recommend as far as a cleaner is concerned, I'm not really worried about the cost I just want a good cleaner that hopefully I can apply with a squirt bottle and then buff it off...my 5th is 38' and has 4 pretty big slides, do you think a gallon of the cleaner is enough ??...I appreciate any help as to what to do and what to stay away from...also if you got a product that you really liked please tell me where you got it....Thanks in advance

RE: Eternabonding the Sides of the roof?

I did exactly what your going to do and believe me when I tell you it's worth the work, took me almost 2 days to do mine but I covered every seam on the roof, I even changed my sewer vent caps and installed the cyclone vents, I will give you this advise, first make sure all the old sealer is clean, and really take your time putting the tape down, once it's down it's stuck...I then used a wall paper seam roller to roll the tape and activate the tape to make it stick, it's time consuming but worth the work, I did not cover the side seams, the bad part about the tape is the ends are grey in color so it is visible, on the roof it didn't matter my thoughts were a few grey lines are alot better than a leak..good luck, just wait for a nice day and you got yourself a nice project to do...good luck

RE: Damaged RV

When I bought my 5th wheel the first thing I did when I got iy home was to order a few rolls of Etrnabond tape and I spent close to 2 days on the roof and I covered every seam or opening I could see with the tape and I was not worried about the warranty because if the roof would have leaked chances are good they are going to blame the owner for not doing any matinance, when I picked up the trailer the deler did tell me that I had to make sure the roof was maintained, the camper is an 06 and she is getting old but not so much as a small leak, the camper has not moved off my drive for 3 yrs but I didn't want to sit and worry that the roof would leak and with my luck if there is a possibility of a leak I'm going to be the one to get the leak...but for you I agree with the other guys, your way out of warranty and you failed to do the matinance......

RE: Do you suppose that RV manufactures...

I have talked to a manufacture rep and I was told they don't read the forum, this one or any other one, I was told they only browse the site for their own units..but I was told that they don't lose any sleep as to what's said on any forum.......

RE: Towing Through Cleveland

I live 35 miles west of Cleveland and only go thru there if there is no other choice, the shoreway rides up close to the lake and will give you the best view, but you will be in alot of residential areas and there is usually alot of traffic, the interstates are as usual pretty torn up with alot of construction, they are builing a new bridge right over the river, and the roads are in pretty rough shape...good luck

I live on Lake Erie and things up here in Ohio are pretty bad but in this mornings paper there was a story in the local paper that the brass or copper doors were stolen off a founding families mosuleum, the value of the doors was said to be 30K, the crypts were not disturbed but the police are looking real hard for these guys....time are bad....

RE: Dropped trailer on bed rails

I admit it I'm a"weenie" and yes I have a bed saver, with my luck it was an absolute must, and yes I did have it drop into the bed and yes it did work, I just thought that the bed saver was cheaper than the deductible on my insurance, I only had it drop one time and I admit I am much more careful now but it did save my truck........and no there was no damage to my camper

RE: Tire Age Surprise (update)

I retired from the tire business, I had a fairly large wholesale business and retail was a secondary line, in 31 yrs in the business I never had any wholesaler ask about build dates, I did have a few retail customers ask and we just refused to go thru a pile of tires in a warehouse to find new dates, alot easier to just blow the customer off, I know nobody wants to hear that but we never had time to screw with build dates, nothing in my inventory was over a year old, and to sit in a dark warehouse pushing tires around to find a build date sure isn't worth a 4 tire sale..........
