RE: Refrigerator fins icing up

I installed this fan on my Norcold, stops ice formation, keeps refrigerator cooler. I had to adjust the control to keep food from freezing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DOMETIC-NORCOLD-REFRIGERATOR-FAN-FOR-RV-12-VOLT-/250905640959?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a6b

RE: Will the trailer drain my tow vehicle battery?

Some say Dodge has a relay, others say only Ford and Tundra. In this instance "enblethen" and "skipnchar" posted opposing statements just one hour apart. Someone has to be wrong. It would sure be nice if people who don't know would not post.

RE: Electric jack kill switch

Since the statue of limitations is up...when we were kids, we played around our next door neighbor's PUP. We always incorporated turning the manual tongue jack handle into our games. IF it had been electric, that would have been even cooler. YES, as a kid, I played OUTSIDE unless it was raining. Most of the time I played in the rain. Of course being from Texas it didn't happen that often.

RE: The Big Bang Theory

Somtimes sulphuric acid in the battery when charging, will release hydrogen...all it takes is for the charger..especially an older charger, to click on ant the contacts arc...Kablooey! Batteries always release hydrogen when charging.

RE: fueling while on the road

What everybody else has said, and turn off your fridge first. If it's full and cold, you can travel for 4-6 hours with it off (as long as it stays closed). I'm I missing something? What does this have to do with refueling? Some people think the pilot light on the fridge will set off fumes in a gas station. If you have ever seen a starter bench tested it will change your mind. They will throw off more sparks then you will see on the 4th of July. Gasoline fumes are heaver than air and will flow down and along the ground, not up toward the reefer flame. Aircraft hangers, and probably many other commercial buildings, require all electrical plugs be at least 3 feet above the floor for that reason.

RE: Better to have the hitch too high or too low?

Nose lower. That way you are always going downhill and will get better gas millage.;)

RE: electric tongue jack stopped working

I used to use a power wheelchair and had a hoist for it in my truck. It quit working so I bought a replacement,$1200.00, and installed it. It worked intermittently. After much head shaking I finally thought of the ground. Sure enough, that had been the problem from the start.

RE: Geo Method and Calgon

Amazon has both powder and liquid Calgon with free shipping. There is even a "subscription service" with scheduled deliveries. I haven't tried the subscription, just saw it was available.

RE: Drinking Water ?

The water in your previously sanitized tank is much safer than bottled water with poisonous chemicals that have leached out of the bottles. The FDA lists the bottles as safe only because they rely on documents from the manufactures and have never tested them their selves or had them tested by an independent facility. Your tax dollars at work.

RE: Comparing UVW & Dry Weight

my opinion is that the RV industry is needlessly confusing the consumer with all of the different weight acronyms. i like to keep things simple. the short answer to your question is yes, the UVW includes whatever came with the vehicle from the factory. so cabinets, mattresses, etc. would be included. but...the UVW may not include anything the dealer added. best advice...ignore the factory weight sticker. the only weigh (pun intended) to be certain is to have the TT weighed *before* you buy it. check the yellow pages for 'Public Scales'...moving companies, cartage companies, etc. once weighed you'll have the empty weight (or UVW, dry weight, whatever you wanna call it). compare that to the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) to calculate how much food, water, clothing, people and stuff you can add. your tow vehicle needs to be able to tow at least the GVWR, not the empty weight, of the TT. good luck.Only if you are going to load it to the max.

RE: Water pressure regulators that still let the water flow???

Another question along these lines...you guys have convinced me that I need a regulator. I have used an inline filter from the water source to the trailer. Do any of you piggy back these together like this or is there a better method? There are two schools of thought here on RV.net, Some recommend putting the regulator at the supply faucet so that the supply hose isn't exposed to excessive pressure. Then putting the filter after the regulator either at the source or at the RV. My preference is to put the filter followed by the regulator at the RV connection. That way we get the maximum pressure/flow(max limited by regulator) at the RV after the pressure/flow loss through the filter. The hose then will need to be able to handle the max pressure supplied by the source. However, most RV resorts/parks now limit the pressure themselves or have pressure regulators at each supply. I've never blown a hose or even had one bubble in 100 plus degree heat at any resort/park we have stayed at. I think a standard drinking water hose can handle the unregulated park pressure. It is the PEX inside the RV that is likely to burst or leak past the fittings. I also put the filters before the regulator. I also use a good quality hose, not the cheapest I can find.

RE: Storing Coax Cable

Mine remains connected at all times. I roll it loosely and drop it behind the power cord between the transfer switch and clamp that holds the PC to the compartment wall. Randy And what exactly does this have to do with the coax cable for a portable satellite dish and RV?

RE: Should I use Never Seize on Wheel Lugs?

Thanks again for all the responses. I guess I should have created a poll. I am now out of popcorn so I will say that I ended up applying a light coat of never seize to all studs and torqued to spec. I carry a torque wrench so will be checking frequently until I am satisfied with the way they seat. Steve If you insist on using never seize you might as well throe the torque wrench away. The lube makes the torque readings totally inaccurate. I would also like to mention that torque values are computed assuming CLEAN dry threads. Dirty or corroded threads produce just as inaccurate results as lubed, except in the opposite direction.

RE: Should I use Never Seize on Wheel Lugs?

I'll always use some kind of lube on all wheel lugs, and always have,.......for 50 yrs. I don't use a torque reading. I use common sense of feel. Dry metal to metal contact tends to "gall". When it galling, a torque reading doesn't mean anything. And when a lug won't come loose and breaks, its because it galled ! But believe whatever,....its your lugs ! There is no common sense to ignoring what all experts have been proving for many, many years. Almost always the reason studs break when removing is not galling. It is because the studs have been weakened by over torquing. My Grandfather smoked for 65 years and didn't get lung cancer so I guess that is a good reason to smoke. As you say....believe whatever,....its your lugs !

RE: Winegard Carryout coax length

You'll need an in-line amp/booster to run anything beyond 100ft of RG6 cable. Do you know this from experience?

RE: GOT NEW LED'S

I have bought these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/180754222465?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 they have 36 LEDs and they are great. They are brighter than these http://www.ebay.com/itm/270912076768?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 which have 48 LEDs. I also tried these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Light-Panel-48-SMD-LED-Interior-Bulb-T10-BA9S-Adapter-/150768843183?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231a85f9af which were unsatisfactory, not very bright, a cold blue-white glaring output and some of the LEDs didn't work or flashed off and on. I have also ordered two of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/170748594101?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 to see how well they replace my 1076 bulbs but have not received them yet. Unless something happens I will only buy from this seller: 2011_led. His store on e bay is: duan-led2010. Sorry for such a bad looking post but I don't know any other way to post a link.

RE: 30 to 50 adapter question

Not sure how or why but I have been in two parks where the 30 amp plug only had about 100 volts or less but the 50 amp plug had about 115 volts. I regularly use my 50 to 30 amp dogbone if there is a 50 amp service available.

RE: Digest-it

I have used Happy Camper and Digest-it. Happy Camper is great, but I think Digest-it is better. I have a clear section in my dump line and when I dump it is nothing but liquid, not even as much as a piece of paper. Would I have problems if I didn't use it? I don't know and don't want to find out.

RE: rv service centers

Hope this doesn't sound like a rant as it is not ment in that manner: Generally, despite the general disrespect for what others do, people are competent and doing the best they can to look after customers. It can be frantically difficult to schedule servicing because one cannot predict the scope of many jobs. Since a technician can do, at most 8 hours of work per day and this is eroded by non-predictables such as consultion with customers, parts backlogs, throw in an additional problem which requires unforseen additional time and everything is thrown off. Add to that the optimistic self diagnosis which is difficult to by-pass and things are thrown off further. Few service operations like to say, "No, we can't fit your rig into our schedule." for all the obvious reasons, none of which are likely to be negative. I've supervised and managed in service departments and know of which I speak. We also found most customers to be decent people to deal with however the 95-5 rule prevails there also. 90% or one's time and effort are required to deal with the 5% problem people even one of those can throw the shop's schedule completely out of wack. People tend to be optimistic in terms of booking which sometimes drives things badly into overload. I'll bet the service people will be at least as unhappy that you are not being served in a timely manner....maybe more, as hard as it may be to accept. If they turn you away they may lose a customer but are likely even more affected by letting you down by saying, "No." If this is a peak period or unusually heavy time, as you suggest, they may have sufficient capacity for their ordinary business level but economics or staffing constraints may not allow them to accomodate the unusual levels. Been there too and it's uncomfortable to tell nice people that you won't help. It's a difficult world.... I managed 3 and owned 1 service center over a 10 year period and never made an appointment that I didn't keep. These were aircraft service centers not RV centers but I can't see that that would matter that much. The key word here is MANAGE. There is a great difference between running a shop and managing one.
