RE: Fuel mileage

With 2009 Itasca Horizon 40' with 8.9 ISL pulling tow dolly and Toyota, from MD to Florida and back at 65 mph, average was exactly 7mpg this Feb-March.

RE: Horizon Slide will not open

We own a 2009 Itasca Horizon and recently could not close the passenger, bedroom side slide out. We got it closed by following the HWH procedure on retracting the slide, and then kept it closed until we got to our dealer. The problem turned out to be a short in the wiring harness behind things. The dealer found the problem, repaired the harness and installed two new solenoids. Problem is fixed. Do not try to do this yourself. Thank goodness we got the slide closed as we were leaving Florida heading back home to Maryland.

RE: Gasing Up with a Toad

Looking at your profile I see you seem to have a gas powered Class A, so truck stop diesel lanes are out for you. Join the Advantage Club with Flying J/Pilot and use their RV lanes for gas and get 1/2 price fee for using their dump station at the pump. Membership is free and it let's you pump first before going inside the main building. I think TA also has a frequent user club that is free and has benefits. But I agree with the other posts, use Truck stops when possible.

RV weekend camping April California coast

I have a friend who is flying to San Francisco on this Thursday, April 5th and renting a 25' Class C with his brother and 2 sons, ages 13 and 5. What would be an easy and fun trip for a 3 day weekend, starting in SF and returning to SF, with fun stuff for the kids and not a ton of driving for the adults.

RE: Glacier 2012

One more thing about East Glacier. There are only two restaurants that I would eat at, Johnson's and the one near the entrance to St.Mary's KOA I can't remember the name but it had a long, long wait to get in, so make sure you have provisions for your meals. Johnson's Restaurant was o.k. but not great. There are no major grocery stores at East Glacier.

RE: Glacier 2012

Last July, 2010 we stayed at East Glacier at St.Mary's KOA in a 40' motorhome. You can take the Jammer Red Bus Tour from the KOA to the Going to the Sun Road and leave the driving to the driver and the picture taking to you. KOA was better than the normal KOA and just a few minutes from the park entrance. Bring ponchos because the weather changes hourly. Also bring warm clothes. My wife wss wearing her winter coat at our campsite at night. Then south to West Yellowstone was a fantastic drive. If you can visit Nevada City and Virginia City, Montana if you are heading to West Yellowstone, do so. My wife and I thought this side trip to Virginia & Nevada City was one of the highlights of our 8,000 mile trip from MD to The Canadian Rockies and back.

RE: Ocean City, MD

We just booked in August for 6 nights at Castaways...earlier times were totally booked. We will be paying over $ 80 per night We have a 40' Class A. Castaways is expensive but an excellent facility. If you can get a Club Castaways location, which is over $ 100 per night you have a private pool for that area, and about 5 crabbing docks and a two story deck overlooking the bay. Assateague Island is directly across the bay. There are kayak, personal watercraft and motorboat rentals at their beach. There is a free shuttle bus to and from Ocean City all day. It is about 5 minutes closer to OC than Frontier. We have grown kids so we don't want the water park facility. Also there is a nice 18 hole golf course about 1 mile from Castaways and the Castaways staff will drove us over to the course with our clubs. The course is Eagles Landing. Good Luck
