RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

I think Sprint is the only provider that still advertises unlimited data....IF your lucky enough to be in one of their coverage areas.

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

I'm pretty sure Sprint has unlimited data....still. What makes you think if you update something? you will loose your unlimited data plan?

RE: Jacking up 5er

It's real simple, take a low profile bottle jack and place it under the spot where the springs attach to the axles. Use a small piece of wood between the bottle jack and the axle point. Jack up the one tire just enough to get it off. Take the SPARE and put it on where you took off the tire. Lower that axle and jack up the other tire in the same manner. Take that tire off and leave the jack there. This way you can do one side with safety because you have the spare installed in case the jack fails. I torque to 100 ft. lbs. Never had a problem. Good luck

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

I'm pretty sure that Verizon, like AT&T, intended the unlimited data plans to be used with aircards on ONE computer. With the advent of aircard routers, PDAnet, etc., folks started to share or TETHER their aircards to other computers. This caused an unintended increase in data use. To counter this trend they came up with a seperate 5G Tether plan. I had to give up my grandfathered unlimited for the new tether plan.....IF I wanted to continue to tether. Anything over 5G is billed at $10.00 per gig. Fairly reasonable. P.S. They claim they can detect tethering and I kind of believe them.

RE: Wheel bearings!

I'm pretty sure most manufacturers recommend at least inspecting once a year. I re-pack mine once a year whether they need it or not. Why do I go to such extremes???? Well, once you've lost an entire wheel due to bearing failure you become a little more cautious. It's a pretty easy day job to pull and re-pack bearings.....losing a wheel and spindle is painful.

RE: Buying first 5th Wheel.. Need lots of info!!

One of the biggest sellers, and very popular, is PPL Motorhomes in Houston, TX. They sell all types of used trailers, not just Motorhomes. Their website is fun to look around at also. They move a lot of rigs....

RE: Floor rot at door, anyone been through it?

That was a really good description of a floor repair. My floor rot wasn't quite as bad and didn't require as much. I bought one of those "multi" tools, the one with the vibrating head, and cut the old floor out flush with the cabinets and wall. Used the green "treated" plywood for replacement. I believe the 1" thickness matched the old OSB flooring. Interestingly enough, the floor wasn't supported with anything under the door opening. I bolted a piece of angle iron under the floor across the opening. Anywhere I needed support under the floor where the new and old pieces met I used treated 2X4's. I then caulked the seams and recovered the floor with new vinyl. Good as new, and I now have the treated plywood for any future (hope not) leakage. You can do it.

RE: Hi, an update and A phone question

Never heard of "consumer cellular", I'd keep the Verizon if there is any chance of you RV'ing again. On a side note, I would be hard pressed to trust anything associated with AARP.

Your welcome.....we're all good friends here, it's just that the Nuwa Owners group is pretty specific to our rigs.

RE: Going from a analog tv to a lcd tv....

4beachcampers, yep that's it, except I didn't put in that angled spacer. good idea. Didn't use a bracket either, just drilled 4 holes through the door and bolted the tv directly to the door. I guess I could use some spacers on the top bolts and kick the angle down a little.

RE: Going from a analog tv to a lcd tv....

Man, you need to go over to the Nuwaowners.org website for a ton of ideas on changing out that TV. Nice folks over there also. I personally, took mine out, made a door to cover the opening and mounted the TV to the door. Lots of nice storage behind there. good luck.

RE: Did you get "The Tethering Letter" yet?

I did.....it gave me much more functionality with aircard SIM, i.e. google navigation, golf gps, etc. I also like the smartphone and hotspot feature much more. I told AT&T guy I would just put the SIM back into the aircard and continue to use it with the Cradlepoint. He stated that they would detect that tethering also and it would be the same outcome. From what I see on their website, I would have been throttled. VPN would probably be the way to go, but you're right, waaay above the heads of most. This reminds me of the good old "C" band, satellite dish days....it was fun while it lasted.

RE: Did you get "The Tethering Letter" yet?

I wasn't using PDAnet at all. Using mobile hot spot on a rooted Samsung Captivate running Cyanomodgen7 with Aircard SIM. Latest AT&T policy reveals that old grandfathered plans will be throttled when approaching 5G......my new plan (tiered "unlimited" 5G) plan will just charge you for exceeding 5G. AT&T advised me that they could detect tethering when using my aircard with my cradlepoint router. When I got the letter I was using 1 to 2 gigs per month on grandfathered unlimited. They detected the tethering not any excessive usage.

RE: Did you get "The Tethering Letter" yet?

I think you're exactly right. It's pretty amazing that it works at all. I've done a little microwave/two-way work out in the boondocks and it is hard to provide services, plus stand-by power, tower leases, tower maintenance, etc.

Seems like that merger would positively affect consumers, but I certainly don't know all of the details.

RE: Did you get "The Tethering Letter" yet?

Yep, I think you're probably right. It worked out in the end. The "letter" mentioned that things would ease if the T-Mobile merger had gone through. Weird that the Government would block that merger, particularly when T-Mobile was all for it.

RE: Did you get "The Tethering Letter" yet?

I'm not so sure about that. I had actually put the aircard SIM into a rooted Samsung Galaxy S running Cyanomodgen7 and was using it's hotspot feature when I got the letter. I informed AT&T that I would just put the SIM back into the aircard and continue to use the Cradlepoint. He informed me that they would be able to detect that tethering also. He said that the grandfathered unlimited data plan was intended for ONE computer only, not multiple computers.
They ended up losing money because when I had voice capabilities added to the aircard SIM I canceled my regular voice cellphone, netting me $20.00 a month.

Did you get "The Tethering Letter" yet?

I've had the grandfathered unlimited data plan from AT&T for several years. Never any problem, and really liked the service. The $60.00 per month was a little steep but I bit the bullet and used the aircard with a Cradlepoint router to supply all of my internet needs, both at home and on the road. I averaged around 6 to 7 Gigs a month. DSL offerings were so cheap I went ahead and got that for the house. Data useage went down considerably on the aircard. Letter from AT&T stated "We detect that you are tethering and will automatically put you on our "unlimited (5G) a month tethering plan unless you immediately quit tethering." So I gave them a call and ended up getting the tethering plan on my smart phone. I actually ended up saving $10.00 per month. The "good old days" are coming to an end folks. Just saying.........

Hey guys, he specifically mentioned "the library." Calibre is a great little program but it does not work for library books.
