RE: New to us trailer, Leak in ceiling after 1st trip out

You might want to check the skylight itself. Ours started leaking during a heavy rainstorm. My husband made a "funnel" from a plastic bag to divert the water to the bathtub, so it wouldn't damage the wood in the ceiling. The next day it didn't look like there was previous water damage in the wood around the skylight. We were so glad we were in the TT when it happened. We borrowd a ladder to inspect the skylight on the roof, and found a crack in the skylight itself, so we simply put a new one in.

RE: Prepared Meals For Camping?

When I put all frozen foods in a cooler with plenty of ice, they stayed usable for a week. Put the precooked frozen things in the bottom of the ice chestfirst, with any uncooked frozen items near the top. Do NOT put fresh produce, drinks, cheese, frozen fruit or anything with a lot of sugar in this etc. in this cooler - ONLY solid FROZEN ITEMS. Leave enough room at the top fro several inches of ice. Other items go in another ice chest. When you need a frozen item, quickly take it from top without digging around for it. If you pack the ice chest this way, you may find even the things on top are too frozen for the first two days. Keep it in the shade. I have kept things cold for more than a week using this method, and that was before the 5 day coolers.

Popups and Bears

We plan to visit Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and some other national parks in the west this summer. Are there campgrounds near those parks where one can safely camp in a popup?

Question for people who own BOTH a Kindle and Kindle Fire

We purchased a Kindle Fire, but haven't registered it yet. I hope the 400 books I have on the Kindle 3 don't automatically go to our K Fire just because it's the same account. Is there a way to keep all those books from going to the K Fire?

RE: Idea for Towel Rack

We had some like that on the bathroom door of our TT. I suppose they were designed to keep towels from falling off during travel. We preferred to have air space between towel bar and "wall" so towels would dry quicker, so we added regular towel bars atatched to those vertical pieces of wood. The towels never fell off while we were moving even tho the bathroom was in the rear of TT.

RE: Foam mattress - Which one to choose for cold weather?

An open sleeping bag on top of your mattress can help a lot. We always used one on top of our air mattress when we were sleeping in a tent. The air in an air mattress becomes as cold as the outside air, and really sucks the heat from your body unless there is insulation between you and the mattress.

RE: Regular sleeping bags vs Mummy style bags

I appreciate all your replies. I purchased a mummy bag @ Dick's and a tapered bag at another local store for our GS to look at. We can return either one or both, and give him money to purchase one to his liking. I'm also making a copy of your replies to show him the pros & cons of each. Thanks again and I wish you all Happy Holidays.

RE: GPS died today, need new one quick -

I just bought the Garmin 2555LTM from Amazon for DH for Christmas. It has a lot of great features, and am looking forward to using it. It comes with a very brief manual, so I went to Garmin website and printed off the manual (2 pages on each sheet), which gives much more info about what it can do. Enjoy your new GPS.

Regular sleeping bags vs Mummy style bags

Are mummy bags more comfortable and warmer than the regular rectangler ones? Our 15 year old grandson likes to camp out even in the winter time, and we want to get him a sleeping bag. I'll make a washable liner for it. There are so many bags made of polyster. Isn't cotton more comfortable than the slippery polyster?

RE: Lake Lanier COE campgrounds

We like Old Federal and often go there at least once every summer so we can spend time with our grandkids who live 20 minutes away. Sometimes they camp on our site in a tent. There is a limit of 8 people on each site. We really like the spaciousness of sites 59 and 60, and you can launch kayaks from those sites. It can get very hot in the afternoon, though, so we had to use AC in our TT. There are trees on those sites, but they don't shade where the RV is parked. Kayaks can also be launched on most of the sites across the road- 44- 47.

RE: November 22, 1963 - Do you remember it?

I was teaching 3rd grade in a small town in western Kansas when we heard the news that President Kennedy had been shot, and later it was announced that he died. Several of my students started crying when they heard the news. School was not dismissed early that day.

RE: Shoe rack suggestions?

I saw a fabric shoe holder at Camping World that attaches to the queen bed platform, so I made a section with pockets for each of the 3 sides of our queen bed. The pockets held about 7 pairs of shoes, plus 3 pairs of plastic beach sandals. It worked great to keep them of the floor. It was not very visible since platform is smaller than the mattress, and it was made of heavy tan fabric that matched the decor.

RE: Trapped hummingbird!

When we had a hummingbird in our garage recently that keep flying near the ceiling, I put nectar in our hummingbird feeder and hung it down lower than the top of the garage door opening. When we checked 10 minutes later, he had flown out.

RE: Drying rack

When we had popups and later a hybrid, my husband made a small hole in each of the support poles under the beds. He attached very small S hooks to each end of a nylon cord of the right length. When we set up, he just hooked the S hooks in each hole, and we had a clothesline under each bed for our towels. The wet towels stayed didn't make our living area damp. The towels were protected from rain under the beds.

Go back and read ALL of his post on 8-5-11. It sounds like they went several weeks ago.

RE: COE campgrounds

I bought the book from Amazon 4 years ago for $10.85 -with free shipping. The one in the link is from a seller who is trying to get a much higher price. I've seen that before, when Amazon no longer has the item, a seller will ask a ridiculus price, like $179 for a yogurt maker just like I purchased earlier on Amazon for $13.95!

RE: Thousand Trails, Florence Oregon @@@@@

We've had similiar fees for guests @ other campgrounds that were not TT. Sometimes we have guests for the day or for several nights of our stay. When we reserve, we include the extra people - unless we have to pay extra for anyone above the two of us. When we arrive at the campground we tell the office that others in our group will be coming later. On the day of our guests' arrival, we inform the office that the other people in our group are coming in a few hours. They are issued a pass for their vehicle. That wouldn't work, if the guests' only transportation is a motorhome.
