RE: Tennessee License Plate

Talk with the County Clerk in the area that you are establishing residency. In order to register a vehicle in Tennessee you will have to present a Tennessee DL. Here you can transfer a tag from one auto, truck, etc. If it has been a while since it was on another vehicle and that title was cancelled then you will probably have to get another one. The semi tag is only good for personal trailers 18' and under. Good Luck and welcome to Tennessee.

RE: Winter-ing the RGV?

Just a hint but in Texas they are called Winter Texans and most associate the snowbird phrase to the ones on the East Coast. Here the locals make you feel welcome and treat you just like family.

RE: Best book for information on fulltime rv'ing

Come to the Tennessee Samboree and attend my Seminar on "Preparing to Fulltime" and also "After the First Year" It starts out with what we learned while preparing to Fulltime and then tell what we also learned while Fulltiming the first year. It gives the good and the bad of what we learned. By the way this forum has really helped us and we are still learning.

Portland, Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Fulton, any in that area. Rocket notice that I kept quiet about Rockport and how great it is. That area is filling up again.

RE: Whats the deal

First of all I am NOT an employee of Good Sam, Camping World or the previously mentioned Affinity Group. I am an Assistant State Director for Good Sams. It is a volunteer position and I get nothing monetary from them.
This site has always been part of Good Sams and Camping World. It was previously called the Affinity Group which is no longer associated with them. Marcus Lemonis is the new CEO 2 years now. He has taken an active interest into the RV industry and is listening to rig owners. In answer to the question about mass mailings the answer is no there will not be any. He also reads the posts here everyday and will try to contact you regarding your concerns. One of the first things he did was make some staff changes and move the corporate offices to Kentucky with Camping World to combine space.
This is just my humble opinions and so far he has been right on.

RE: Forced into full-timing

W4RLR I know where Powels Crossroads is, I am from 'Chattanooga. You might try to contact some of the campgrounds around there and see if they have any Workkamping spots left. Try Holiday Travel Park in East Ridge. See if Raccoon Mtn has any spots. Something will come up that I am sure. Good Luck

RE: Snowbirds Going North

We leave Rockport this coming Sunday heading to a Good Sam Meeting in Lebanon Tennessee then on to Spring City, Tn. I hope someone turns on the heat in that state. Hate to leave Rockport it is a great place to live as Winter Texans might have to make it permanent next year. Thank you Rockport for making us feel like family. See you in Oct.

RE: TX Gulf Coast March 2012

Passed the state park on Mustang Island today and it was about half full, lots of rigs leaving Port A, Aransas Pass and Rockport returning home. Remember that spring break is in a couple of weeks, traffic on the island and such will be slow and packed. I would call ahead if I was in your position.

X2 on workamping and storage. Don't give up how about a lease to purchase plan. Then you can take some time to get financing. Use a UPS office to handle the mail and also give you a address. Where are you in Tennessee? We will return to Spring City in a couple of weeks.

RE: kayaks vs canoes

A Bennet, I haul a fiver, and installed a 2" receiver on the front of the TV, I then put a removable cross bar on the cab over the driver and passenger seats, I then put a bed extender mounted like a goal post in the receiver, then I was able to haul the Kayak over the hood and also pull the fiver with no problems. I will post a pic in the next week or 2.

RE: How many miles would you travel in 1 day?

DW and I are in our middle 60's, we used to travel 10 -12 hours a day, even when we rode our Harley across country, but that was in our 30's to late 50's. We left Tennessee with only going 325 miles a day to get to Texas with the last day being around 250. We got up as usual around 5:30am and got out of town, we got to our intended destination at 12 noon, to early to stop so we kept on going, well to make a long story short we traveled the first day 525 mile and stopped at 5:30, went to bed at 6pm got up at 3:30am and went the rest of the way. First day almost killed me as I did all of the driving. Now we get up when nature calls and leave when we have had coffee and a bagel. We only do max of 350 and sometimes shorter. We also stop and look at nature when we feel like it. Everyone is different and you have to decide for yourself. jmho.

RE: kayaks vs canoes

I picked up a new Ocean Kayak Trident Angler 13 today. I had a front 2" receiver installed and a t shaped holder along with a cross bar on the top of the cab. I tow a fiver and this lets me store the kayak over the hood and cab without hitting the fiver. I looked long and hard before making a choice of a Kayak or Canoe, my wife doesn't fish but prefers to take her chair and read with her Kindle while I am fishing. Good luck on your choice.

RE: Theiving Season

It is so easy to try and put blame on a certain set of people, As you can see from my sig I am in Rockport and also I am a "Winter Texan" in the resort that I stay in not many of us even lock our doors. Before blaming one group I would do as one of the others suggested and get CSI on it. Trail cameras are great and will give you proof that will hold up in court. I have not read anything in the local paper indicating a problem or listing of a theft. They put everything in the paper to fill it out. Sorry you have lost things but get some proof before laying the blame on a certain set of people. Most of us come here because we feel welcome and like that.
