RE: Vehicles registered in 2 states

Don't know why it should be a problem, lots of snow birds do the same thing. But it's best to check with both state licensing bureaus. I've had vehicles titled in Florida and Arizona for years and don't have any problems.

RE: Explain limited slip differential

Vinny Gambini: What is positraction?
Mona Lisa Vito: It's a limited slip differential which distributes power equally to both the right and left tires. The '64 Skylark had a regular differential, which, anyone who's been stuck in the mud in Alabama knows, you step on the gas, one tire spins, the other tire does nothing.
Sorry about that.... it just popped into my head.

RE: Mail Forwarding Services

I use My RV mail. They are based out of Florida and affiliated with Passport America. I'm able to check online and see what mail I have and they will scan it for me, open and read it to me or forward it. They trash my junk mail and will shred anything I don't want forwarded. The best part is being able to check my mail box on my schedule and see what's there.

RE: 1999 HR Endeavor 37' develops leak front left

Best guess... Front cap, clearance lights, windshield, drivers side window. All or just one, take your pick. My leak was passenger side and caused by the windshield gasket. It originated in the upper right corner and water ran down the inside of the pillar between the windshield and passenger window, crossed over to the passenger side window, down to bottom of the window frame and across then down the inside where it damaged the floor behind the passenger seat.
As Brian said, Eternabond for the front cap, new gaskets or butyl tape for the clearance lights, reset the windshield and reseal the side window. That should take care of it unless it's one of the antennas on the roof or your air horns.
Good luck.

Motor-home plumbing...

What were the manufacturers thinking..??
Due to circumstances beyond my control I'm staying in Northern Michigan this winter and trying to stay in my Motorhome. One problem I've encountered thus far is frozen water lines. The temps dipped into the teens for several days and I lost hot water to the faucets.
I'm running off my on-board tank. All the water lines and the pump are located on the drivers side. I've got trouble lights in the wet bay and the compartment with the fresh water tank/pump to supply supplemental heat along with my furnace which has heat ducts into these area's. The exception is my Hot water tank. It's located on the passenger side, which means that a cold and hot water line is running from the drivers side to the passenger side. These lines are NOT in a heated compartment. To make matters worse, the manufacturer routed the lines so it's impossible to access the area's where the lines penetrate the floor. On the drivers side they are located under the shower. On the passenger side they are behind a closet wall that houses a sliding pocket door.
Thankfully when the lines froze, then thawed, there were no breaks in the pipes or at the fittings. Why they would route these lines in a manor that makes then inaccessible for repair is beyond me.
Hopefully I'll be able to add some insulation around these two lines and perhaps put another trouble light into the area to prevent them from freezing again... otherwise it may require removal of the shower stall and/or the pocket door/closet wall in order to access these lines to repair any damage.
Okay... rant off.

RE: What is it..?

You came across it while tracing hot water lines.......but you were not clear that is was on a hot water line.
If you trace the horizontal line does it connect to an outside connection for black tank flusher? If so it's an anti-siphon/back flow preventer.
Was able to trace the lines... turns out it is the water line for the black tank flusher.
One thing that confused me is the red stripe on the water lines. I thought the red stripe was for the hot water line... but the manufacturer used a red stripe line for the black water flush. They also used a piece of red stripe line for the water feed to the ice maker.
Thanks again for the help.

RE: What is it..?

Thanks for the quick responses... I was able to get some numbers off the top but they didn't help much. It's a watts brass and tubular ANO A-882 PB113 3/4X3-1/2 and sells for $8.04 but that's as much as I could find.
In tracing my water lines I found a hot water line coming up from under the floor which runs 6' to this device mounted under the sink. A return water line runs back the same 6' and disappears through the floor. It's got me scratching my head as the primary hot water line comes through the floor in the same area and feeds the bathroom sink, shower and ends at the kitchen sink. I haven't been able to locate either of the lines below the floor yet to figure out what they are for. Perhaps a line for an outdoor shower/faucet... that I don't have?

I came across this while tracing the hot water lines in my Motorhome. Does anyone know what it is and what it does..?

The silver piece on the top is a type of cover and not a knob or handle.

RE: Rattle snake horseshoe pitching in Quartzsite.

Come on guys give the OP a break. It's a well known medical fact that the leading cause of spelling and grammar errors, at least in the Southwest, is exposure to rattlesnake venom... caused primarily by picking up sleeping rattlesnakes that only appear to be frozen.

RE: Food, In search, of a real meal, on the road.

How's the saying go...? "It's a sign of the times". And, IMHO it's pretty much the way it's been since schools stopped offering 'home-economics' and mom's stopped teaching their daughters to cook. Today with both parents working, convenience foods and eating out is the accepted norm. What with increased product and labor costs, an overall reduction in what is acceptable food and everyone being in a hurry... add to that the fact that the original 'Mom and Pops' have passed on leaving their businesses to family or sold to bottom line business folk... The only place your going to find a good, reasonably priced 'home cooked' meal these days is by cooking it yourself.
Granted there is the occasional exception to this, but they are few and far between... and certainly becoming more elusive as time goes by.

RE: Salton Sea, CA.

When I'm in that area I stay at Lake Cahuilla. If your there during the week and a Passport America member it's only $10 a night, or $20 if you aren't. It's a quiet little county park with electric and water only, friendly staff, nice little lake and I've never seen it busy.
If your intent on staying around the Salton Sea... be sure and stay on the downwind side.

RE: Heating and water questions

Windchill will also come into play. When you are driving at highway speeds it will feel a lot colder than at slower speeds.
Only if you stick part of your body outside the vehicle.
Same thing as standing outside with either wind or no wind. Here the other night we got down to -20c but with the windchill it feels like -33c (at -35 ish the temps are the same for both c or f)
"Windchill" does not have the same effect on inanimate objects as it does on the human body. While driving down the road will increase the rate at which metal, wood or fiberglass will loose it's heat, the object will not get(or feel) any colder then the actual ambient temperature.

RE: Fuel Stops for Gas?

Pilot advertises RV islands, but it does not specify if they are only diesel or not.
The Pilot and Flying J RV islands dispense both Gas and Diesel. Many are also set up to allow filling of LP tanks and some still have dump facilities and potable water at the island.
Are these islands with the trucks or at the front for cars?
They are generally located in the same area as the Auto pumps. Usually to the far left or right depending on the stations layout. They will have ample room to get in and out. Most will have signs indicating an RV entrance.

RE: Why a pressure regulator on the water line?

I have one, but most places I stay already have them.
Having said that, this park actually provides pressure regulators at every site's spigot. If people would stop stealing them it would work out just fine.
Don't be fooled by these:
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i71/liveneasy/bf-preventor1.jpg
They aren't pressure regulators.... they are back-flow preventors. The chances of an RV park installing pressure regulators on every faucet is slim to none. Most parks and outdoor faucets on newer homes will have back-flow preventors.

RE: Most Simple Least Expensive Braking ?

THIS system is about as cheap as you can go.
Those anchors are getting pretty darned expensive...
Sorry I can't help with an inexpensive off the shelf type unit, but if it's cheap your looking for you might think about having the DW ride in the Toad and using a TCP system to tell her when to apply the brakes.
