RE: Total Newb need some of your opinions

Nothing better than spending time with the family. I am sorry to here at about your situation. I got to spend a summer with my family after I got laid off work. I towed a 17" hybrid Jayco Kiwi from Cincinnati Oh to Yellowstone with stops along the way for 6 weeks. We had a great time. I have a 98 Ford F150 with about 160,000 miles and had no trouble. It was rated for around 6,000 lbs. I am not sure how much other hybrids weigh, but the Kiwi was around 3,000 lbs. I would think your Jeep could pull that.

RE: Bed end weight limits

I had a Jayco Kiwi for my first camper. Our very first trip out with this camper and I was in the back bed. I am a big guy and got out on the very end of the bed and was tossing and turning. Kind of bouncing it and collapsed it. I fell out the back in about 35 degree weather and raining. I was sleeping with my dog and only in my underweat. We were on a slope and the dog and I rolled about 15 feet down this hill in the mud. We laugh about it today, but it was not funny at the time. When we went to pull out, my truck wouldn't start and I had to be towed. Our first camping trip cost us about $3000 in repairs.

Marker Lens Cap

I have searched all over the internet and looked at my lens cap. I have lost a rear marker lens cap on my 2008 Gulfstream Amerilite and can not find any part number to replace it with. The brake light is an optronics so I assume the marker is also but there is no marking on it. The only thing stamped is sae-ap2 01 which I don't believe is a part number. Can someone who has an Amerilite or knows help me out? Or should I just spend a little extra money and replace the whole housing with LED's? Thanks

RE: Looking at Purchasing Amer-Lite 239 BH. Are they ok?

I have a 2008 Amerilite 25BH and have loved it. We have had it 2 years with no problems. We put a 4" memory foam topper on the mattress. The water pump is in a bad spot and makes it hard to winterize it. Also, the low point drain took me some time to find. Question for you Amerilite owners. My lens cover came off on my rear marker light. I can not find a part number on the remaining one anywhere. Does anyone know which lens cover part I need? I have to order online. The brake lights are optronics but don't see part numbers on them either.

RE: Hard covers for the spare tire

Just something to consider - I may be the only one this has ever happened to, but my previous trailer came with a solid spare cover. While washing the trailer one day, I removed the cover to find that someone had replaced my brand-new, never on the ground spare with a blown out tire on a bent rim! :M Before I bought my trailer, I used to backpack a lot. My wife and I went on a overnight trip and when we came out of the woods, someone had taken one of my tires off my car and placed their flat tire under my axle to hold my car up. I was not happy that day.

RE: bumper mount bike rack

Quick question....I have seen with my own eyes a bumper crack and pull away from the frame with bikes attached. But my TT has a rear tire bolted to the back of the trailer. It is not attached to the bumper at all. It seems very secure. Would it be possible to get a 2 bike rack that attaches to a spare tire like the jeeps have and be secure.

RE: Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio is booked every day?

We went for spring break last year and we booked about a month out. We had 8 campers and there were only a few other campers there besides us. We absolutely loved it.

RE: Adult Beverage- Apple Pie

We used to make "hooch' with it. Some kind of fruit punch, cut up fruit, and Everclear. Good Night, I will see you in a few days. I saw someone drink it through a beer bong once on a bet. He won, but lasted about 20 mins until it was night, night.

RE: Winterizing...anything I am missing?

Here's my list. Note first 27 items are for dewinterizing. 28. Chock wheels and lower stabilizers 29. Drain fresh water tank – do while on concrete pad. 30. Drain hot water heater (1 1/16”), & flush it out (open all faucets first to avoid shower). 31. Bypass hot water heater (cw to handle vertical). 32. Add 2 gallons of antifreeze in fresh water tank. 33. Turn on demand pump. 34. Run each faucet (including shower) until red 35. Flush Toilet until red 36. Run outside sink outlet until red 37. Turn off demand pump. 38. Un-bypass hot water heater (ccw to handle horizontal) 39. Run pump just a little to get antifreeze into water heater tank 40. Shut off the pump, turn on a faucet, and remove the screen and washer from your city water inlet. Push the anti-backflow valve in the city water inlet with a finger or screwdriver to allow the water to be purged out and antifreeze to flow. Be careful that it doesn't spray all over you! 41. Open two low point drains until runs pink. 42. Open fresh water tank drain until runs pink. 43. Drain gray water into bucket & flush down house toilet 44. Drain black water into bucket & flush down house toilet 45. Put antifreeze down bathroom shower and sink drain 46. Put antifreeze down either kitchen sink drain 47. Put antifreeze down toilet 48. Put olive oil in toilet, and 1 cup in each waste tank (cheap valve lube). 49. Blow out (30 psi max) the black tank flush system and add antifreeze 50. Move Pressure Pro sensors to Mercedes. 51. Check tire pressures, put to the 65 psi maximum 52. Recheck wheel chocks and retighten stabilizers 53. Cover tires 54. Check battery water 55. Turn off both Propane tanks 56. Clean fridge drain hose tiny screen end wedged into outside fridge panel vent. 57. Install flea collars in outside openings to deter bugs 58. Install Damp Rid 59. Final Check a. Demand Pump off b. Thermostat set to off c. Propane alarm battery removed d. Smoke detector battery removed e. Refrigerator turned OFF and both doors open f. All canned (and un-canned) food removed, & trash empty g. All windows & roof vent closed h. Both doors locked i. Both outside storage doors locked j. Battery cutoff switch is off k. Awning is locked I would be interested in the first 27 for next year. You have put together a nice detailed list.

RE: Ohio Campground

Does no one read the original post? He wants to camp near Hamilton, OH for a couple of days so he can be close to the dealer if he needs something fixed. Mt. Eaton is 250 mi. NE. Rising Sun is 45 mi. SW, unless somebody moved Indiana east of Ohio. And Winton Woods is a county park 15 miles north of the "inner city". One should always lock up valuables and Rangers patrol the park 24/7. I don't think you'll need to "pack heat". I agree 100%. I stayed at Winton Woods a few weeks ago and was very impressed. It is very nice since they have remodeled it. And it is about 2-3 miles off 275. Hardly the inner city. It is a very nice campground. I have already made reservations to return next May. I wanted to book October next year and they are already booked.

RE: Ohio Campground

I stayed at Winton Woods last weekend and everything was still open. I believe they are open year round and it is a very nice park. They have full service pull through's and very nice lake. They also have key card access only.

RE: Camping chair for the big and tall?

Thanks for all the replies. I have a basspro by me so I will be checking those chairs out. You can't beat sitting in it before buying. The kingpin chair seems a little tall. Maybe I could buy it and have everyone call me king around the campfire.

Camping chair for the big and tall?

I am trying to find a comfortable camping chair for my father. He likes to go camping with us but he is a very large man. He stands about 6'3" and probably goes about 450. I wanted to see if anylarge person has had any luck finding a comfortable camping chair. I have seen a few with 500lb capacity, but they tend to be those fold up chairs that have the bar that goes across the back of your leg. I use the loungers and find them extremely comfortable but have not seen any with high weight capacity. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: AMAZON.COM

There was an article today in the Cincinnati paper about Amazon hiring hundreds for a new fulfillment center in Hebron KY. This is in the greater Cincinnati area. Not sure how or if they do camping or not but thought it might be useful if anyone wanted to try a different location. http://www.kypost.com/dpps/news/region_northern_kentucky/hebron/amazon-hiring-hundreds-in-n-ky_6740880

Sewer hose storage question?

I am hoping to use the vinyl fence post to store my sewer hose and connections. There is not enough room to mount on top of my bumper b/c the spare tire is mounted to back of TT and hangs down too low. There is no room to mount underneath bumper as my jacks go up/down from the back. I am stuck with mounting underneath TT, I was wanting to mount as close to the tank openings as possible but that would put it directly behind my wheels, will this cause a problem? Or should I mount in front of the tires?

RE: KY State Park reservations

I would say if you are staying a weekend you may want a reservation, especially for 3 campers. If it is during the week, you would be fine since school will be in.

RE: Anyone converted hot water heater to electric?

The 2011 Hott Rod conversion kit can be used for both Atwood and Suburban. The suburban has a built in anode. http://www.hottrod.net/

RE: Anyone converted hot water heater to electric?

Thanks for the quick response. I see it comes with an anode, does the anode need replacing often?

Anyone converted hot water heater to electric?

I do almost all my camping at electric campgrounds. Has anyone ever converted their propane only hot water heater to electric. I see 3 products (Hott Rod, Lightning Rod, and Hybrid Heat). Anyone have any experience with these products? Not a lot of reviews on camping world or amazon.
