RE: Has Anyone Tried Dollar Tree Solar Lights? They are great!

I plan on mounting some on my boat dock. A little lite goes a long way in the dark. How do they sell these for a buck? Third world sweat shops? I think they each have arechargeable AA batt in them. The batts sell for something like 4/$10 if you need to replace em. P{erhaps these are different.

RE: Hot Water Heater use

My question is-why dont camper makers put in single handle faucets. By the time I get the water temp adj I have used lots of water in my Palomino. Maybe yours has single handle. Ill probably retrofit mine.

RE: propane tank question

Hi, Do you have a BBQ? Can the tank from it fit into the compartment on your camper? Or is the place it mounts require all that stuff on the top of the tank to hold it in place? My suggestion is take along the BBQ tank if you can use it, they sell those at Home Depot around $40 or Costco for $27. It might cost $20 to get your tank re-certified. I think they fill them with nitrogen and leak check them at some very high pressure (say 300+ PSI) or test the sidewalls for thickness with a gauge that measures the sidewalls with electronics - looks like a sona gram machine, but smaller and portable. It can tell if there is rust on the inside of the steel tank, and tell the operator the steel thickness. Fred. Our local Costco fills propane tanks for $10.39. Propane around here at Flying J is $2.99/gal. A 20#er holds just shy of 5 gal. Your costco is a steal. Hardware/propanne cos get $18 or so-empty or not..

RE: Glennie Michigan Camping

Yes, the park is Alcona Park, a county facility, and YES, it has views of the "lake". It's not Lake Huron, however, but is actually a lake formed behind the Alcona Dam on the Au Sable River. There are limited full hook-up sites, but lots of electric and water sites. It's a very nice park, in a nice area of Michigan. I think you would enjoy it. They have a website which is www.alconapark.com. As Doc said. Some fishing, better w/ boat. Plenty of room but could be crowded on weekends. 15 yrs ago they had quite a few 'seasonal sites'.

RE: Campgrounds in Smokey Mtn. Nat. Park in June

Elkmont and Smokmont will probably be crowded. On the S side of Smokiie near Bryson City, I believe is a nice NP.. I dont recall the name. It is just in the park a couple miles. Not so well known and off the main road. Take the train ride.

RE: estes park,colorado springs camping?

Colorado State parks are very nice but dont have pools as a rule. Large flat sites are the rule. The neighbor wont be right on top of you either. If going S of Denver get to Chatfield., Estes Park is expensive-everything.

RE: Small cabin near Boone, NC

Put a small ad in the local newspaper or check with a local realtor who might know of rentals in the area.

RE: newbies buying RVs

I know....we've all been there. I read the beginning RV forum a lot. I've learned so much from it. It breaks my heart though when people buy a unit and then ask the forum what they think:E, and it's absolutly UNSAFE! Now, they have this expensive problem that they can't use. Example- folks bought a 26' tt and have a Toyota 4 runner. The wts are grossly out of proportion...it was hard to hear what the forum was telling them. Once again, thank you for keeping us going in the right direction. Couple yrs ago wewere thinking a new truck/trailer. I asked a salesman about the truck, as to what Id need. He said "go buy the trailer first and then come see me about the truck." I thought that was good advice.

RE: Ten examples of what not to do from others...

"7: Don't drop glass beer bottles down the toilet and into the black tank. (This was on a used TT that was completely trashed due to some heavy partying.)" At least make sure its empty first. The beer bottle, not the toilet. Both should be empty....

RE: Reservations?

Many people wont make any kind of a trip without reervations even at the motel. I know those that have the route all laid out before ever leaving home. Drive like hexx and arrive at 3 pm, never stop at anything along the way-not us.

RE: Thermostat and/or furnace problems

It sounds like you only have heat. Just get a thermofor heating-2 wire system. Talk to the guys at Lowes. I dont go to HomoDepot.

RE: KOA Resort Fee

They 'soaked' up for that at the KOA in Astoria, Or. It's for the use of the facilities like the swing set and jungle bounce and for the "free" pancake breakfast that they advertised... We said we didn't want to swing or bounce or eat pancakes but they said that the Resort fee was required.. It was late, we were tired, we paid the fee, we stayed one night and moved on. Sounds kinda like us. We pull in with our truck camper and like electricity but not for 12-15 bucks/night. I tell them I dont have 2 ACs on the roof.

RE: Mfg buying back a camper question

Thanks for all the responses, very good info. I am documenting everything, and have Prime Time involved. I am back at the dealer today so we will see where it goes. Date, time and who you talked to and their response. If they shuffle you to a second, third person just get all their names.

RE: The one specific suggestion you would make to RV makers...

Single handle faucet in kitchen(only sink in truck camper. By the time you get the water temp set yopu wasted a qt-several times while 'washing up'. AND/OR make single handle availabe for DIYers.

RE: From MI To Yellowstone... What to See and Where To Stop ?

Two things- #1 If heading W thru the UP of MI make sure you stop at Gustavesons in Brevort, MI for a smoked whitefish. #2 At Rushmore make sure you see the evening show at the Rushmore 'statues'. That has really been developed since 84 when we first went there. Now thare is a big parking garage there. Custar was a nice town that we did not see much of. There are a couple caves in that area-one govt owned and at least one small private. Do at least one.

RE: Additional charge for electricity

What was the name of the rv park, and what did the check-in or reservation form say? What does the website say? $31 seems a lot for one week of electricity. I have a truck camper and most campgrounds I seem to end up at want anywhere from $8 to $10 for one NIGHT. They dont list elect seperately but that is the difference between 'hookups' and 'primative' or something. I think they think Im one of those 250K motor homes with two ACs on the roof.

RE: What exactly makes a RV park or campground a resort?

That pool is closed for the season-or hasnt opened yet. The operator would tell you that the pool is very expensive-chemicals, water and liability. Do they cut the price when it is not available--NO NO..
