RE: GETTING READY TO GO RVing

I have a manual slider in my Ford F250 extended cab with a 6 1/2ft box.
It's nice to have if I need it. Mine is a Reese manual slider.

RE: New Oxygenics Shower Head

I was corrected here a while back in that it doesn't increase the pressure, but does increase the velocity.
I found a third party FULL shutoff valve and installed it at the base of the handle. I appreciate being able to shut it off completely.

RE: Leveling side to side with a slide out

If you want to be exact, figure out how much your rig settles from left to right when you extend the slide, and compensate by that same amount when you first set up. Then you don't have to open and close the slide during set up. For me, the weight shift is so slight that it's not worth it.

RE: Campground Etiquette - pass-throughs and back-ins

....Folks, please, if you are going to pull a trailer, you really should know how to back the thing up. You may think that you will never get yourself into a pinch where you wouldn't need to go in reverse, but soon or later, you will find yourself in a situation requiring those skills......
Wow. Never thought THIS would need to be explained.

RE: Charcoal vs. Propane

While campin', I use charcoal & wood. Part of my campin' experience for the last 40 years. One of those things I hope to hang on to.

RE: Campground Etiquette - pass-throughs and back-ins

I am aware of many back-in sites that are as long as drive-thru sites. If there are no more drive-thru sites available, a back-in will work. Just a little inconvenience, that's all.

RE: Food Planning for a month

We normally pack food for about 3 to 4 days. Three or 4 days is also about the time to dump the tanks and charge the batteries. We will then stay at a full hookup park to dump, shop, charge the batteries, and maybe do a load of laundry.

RE: Following Forum advice -Do you do it?

Before taking the advice of forum members, I had to figure out that opinions come from a very large and different types of RV'ers. The biggest difference of opinion that I have found is the difference between the weekend camper, and the full or almost full time RV'er.
And I always question the "advice" from someone who makes a statement of fact, when it's really just HIS opinion.

Definitely compensating for something!
Most of the guys that I see getting in and out of lifted trucks are not very tall. :)

RE: Use of Vented Tailgates

The benefit of my louvered tailgate is that I don't need to drop the tailgate when unhooking - not any savings in fuel economy.

RE: Another dead battery question...

Leaving your batteries connected while in storage will drain the batteries eventually - small loads in the rig. I disconnect my batteries while not in use.

RE: Time left from battery

My battery state of charge at the display panel does the same thing. It will read low if my lights are on. And I know my batteries are fine. I use a simple hand held volt meter at the batteries to let me know the state of charge. I placed a chart in the battery compartment indicating volts and percentage of charge from 100% down to 50%. Works for me.

RE: crossroads zinger propane tanks

We remove the tanks each time for refill. On our model, there are two metal straps that holds them with a latch. Just make sure you properly attach the straps when done.

RE: Sun angles/Solar panel roof angles?

If your rig is 8 feet wide and the center is 5-inches above the outside edges, then the straight angle would be near 6°. I have read that for fixed panels, and for year round solar use, this formula is used for determining your angle: "If your latitude is between 25° and 50°, use the latitude, times 0.76, plus 3.1 degrees". So in my neck of the woods, the angle would be 34° at a latitude of 40°.
So, if you want to determine the angle, add 34° and the roof slope of 6° = 40°. Forty degrees is approx. 36" rise at the outside edge of your rig back down to the center.
Now the math experts can come in and tear this apart, but maybe you will then get an exact figure by them doing so. Good luck.

RE: Slide-outs

.....Ever wonder why all the slides are out at the dealerships? Because most RV's are totally 'unusable' with them in! Ask the salesman to pull them in for you and they go on and on how there are no batteries in the RV or they are not charged etc etc.
And sadly even with just one slide and in many types of RV's you can't even walk thru the RV.
IMHO if you are a camper/traveler versus sit and park, slides will make your traveling experience inconvenient as the only time you will have full access to your RV is AFTER you have parked and opened them all up. :W
I don't want to sound like I am supporting RV dealers, but to blame the battery could be valid. IMHO
When we walked through our 5er prior to purchase, the slide was out and it was very easy to see where the slide would be while retracted. We can walk through, and access the frig, but half the couch was unusable. No biggy.

RE: Tools for the road

Of course, tools needed may depend upon the age of your 5er. I carry some basic tools, as I do for my truck, but there is no way I can plan for everything. As time goes on, and you fix or modify different things in your 5er, while at home, you can make the call whether or not to leave the tools in the rig. JMHO
