RE: Luan Panel Fasteners

Google "jack nuts" most Ace hardware stores carry them. That's what I've used for similar projects. They are much more shallow than a standard molly anchor and come in a multiple range of sizes.

As others have said, forget it, too narrow steep and winding. It is a blast in a sports car however :B

I might look into this, we will be getting an 8 week old Golden puppy at the end of February. Cancer in the breed is scary.

RE: When does a warranty start?

With most manufacturers it's from the date of purchase by the end user. I know Ford does it that way, when we purchased ours there was form that the dealer and I filled out and mailed in to Ford to start the warranty period.
That is also how it works in our fleet regardless who builds up the incomplete vehicle.

RE: Stop engine light on

This may be of no help but... Cummins has had thousands of the low coolant sensors fail. The one I'm talking about is usually in the surge tank, it is a square white plastic looking thing with a 3 wire Delphi connector. Unplug the connector and see if there is coolant in there, if so, it's bad. It could still be bad even if it's not leaking yet but you need the Insight program, a laptop and the proper cabling to verify.
I've replaced probably 35 of these things, I believe they are about $125. It's been such an issue in our fleet we've considered replacing them as a PM item. Honestly I don't know what year they started to use this style sensor so this may not help you but it's worth a look.

RE: Ford 450 floor mats

I too went with the Ford all weather mats, perfect match with the interior and they catch and hold all of the crud, just pull 'em out and dump.

RE: Bigfoot Class C "scare" switch

Yes, they are the two large lights on either side, ours has two switches, one by the door and one by the bed. The switches control a latching relay as they are momentary switches, at least ours are, push once to turn on and again to turn off. They are actually a good idea as the light output is significant enough to "scare" off unwanted intruders either human or the wildlife kind at night when camping in remote areas. The downside is being a momentary switch there is no visible way during the day to know they are on if the switch is accidentally pushed without going outside and looking. Bigfoot should have installed an LED indicator inside the coach for this purpose, something I added.
As far as the owners manual there are some on the BOCI web site. There is an annual membership of $20 USD but there is a wealth of info specific to the Bigfoot product line. I believe you can request visitor status and look around for awhile to see if it's something you might be interested in.

RE: Suggestions/oppinions on rear air bags for my E-450 class C

Ours has the Firestone Ride Rite bags with the dual control compressor system installed by Bigfoot. It works great, had a small leak at a fitting once with no other problems. The nice thing about having the on board compressor, aside from adjusting the pressure "on the fly", is the quick connect fittings on both sides of the coach to inflate a tire if necessary. It takes awhile but does the job.

Turn off fridge?

Driving home today I saw a trailer parked at someones house that had clearly had a refrigerator fire. It didn't look totaled but there was some significant damage. This got me thinking, especially with all the reports of refer fires. Would it be a good idea to turn off the refrigerator when away from the vehicle for a time, say a day hike? Then turn it back on when you return. I'm pretty proactive when it comes to maintenance and perform the usual refer P/M procedure annually but stuff can always fail and often it's at the worst possible time.
There are times when we can't take the dogs with us and leave them in the RV for the day when out exploring and I would hate to have a mishap while were away. Does anyone out there turn theirs off under these circumstances?

RE: Dog Breeds

It varies from campground to campground. If there are places you are considering visiting start checking the campgrounds in the area to see if there are restrictions on the breed. Unfortunately the campgrounds have no choice but to protect themselves and some breeds have bad reps, justified or not.
True, we traveled all over the western US and Canada with our Husky/Shepherd mix with no problems whatsoever. Some friends however have been turned away because of their Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It's best to get clearance ahead of time.
I fully understand the need for facilities to protect themselves in our litigious society, unfortunately the laws and rules often target the wrong end of the leash.

RE: Cat Mechanic says to buy Cummins (!)

As a mechanic, yes certified, ASE Master Auto & HD Truck, Cat, Cummins, Allison, Ford, Chevy bla, bla, bla I'll throw this out there. They are both good engines, both have particular issues that plague each respective one. The best analogy I can give for an RV power plant would to compare a Cummins B series to a SB Chevy and the Cat C7 to a SB Ford. Both good engines but the Chevy is cheaper to fix and parts are everywhere. Take it for what it's worth.

RE: Ford Chassis, Park Brake, how does it work?

I may be wrong here since you are referring to a class A which should be the F53 chassis but as FIRE UP stated the ZF park brake is a driveline brake mounted on the back of the transmission. This is used for sure on the E-450 chassis to I believe '08 MY.
This is a very reliable cable operated drum brake assembly that under normal use will last the life of the vehicle. It does have its own oil sump and should be checked routinely by removing the plug of the left side of the housing. The oil should be to the bottom of the plug, it only holds about a half pint so any loss can be bad.
As far as repair, they can be rebuilt/repaired as long as it's not run out of oil but it does require some special tooling and expertise. Most shops including dealers don't want to mess with them. If you run them out of oil they become junk in a hurry.
