RE: Should I have followed truck manufacturer's specs or not?

what is your vehicle and what are you towing.
I went from p to LT tires on my last truck which was a half ton. Towed MUCH better. gave up some of the ride comfort when not towing, but i thought it was worth it.

RE: What's The Best Cleaner For Awning?

Tilex Mold and Mildew. Spray top and bottom, then roll it up for an hour or so. Unroll and spray with hose. if still dirty, repeat. Works for everyone I know.

RE: Mammoth Cave NP to Nolin lake COE campgrounds?

It is called Houchins Ferry.
I grew up on Nolin Lake as a kid. Wonderful place to visit. There are several campgrounds on the lake, however i have only stayed at the one at Wax.
If you like fishing, they stock trout down in the tailwater below the dam once a week from spring through fall. Makes for some fun fishing. Have to have a fishing license and trout stamp to catch and keep them though.

RE: Land Between the Lakes

I have camped at both several times. Our favorite location to go for short weekend trips.
Canal has smaller sites that are more difficult to get into, but not impossible. It has more shade too. I find that the sites are further apart. Isn't technically in LBL though, it's before the bridge into it.
I prefer Hillman Ferry though. They have a nice beach to swim at, a nice boat ramp, and is an excellent place to ride bikes. Plenty of playgrounds for kids too. They also have more sites physically on the water.
Campfires are no problem at all and there are some nice hiking/biking trails, some are even blacktopped.

RE: How do I get movies these days?

Redbox
You can find them all over, typically outside grocery stores and McDonalds restaurants around here. $1.20/night per movie.

RE: Border crossing Michigan to Ontario

I travel to Ontario for work from time to time and drive from Detroit, Across the Ambassador, into Ontario.
Personally I would not even consider crossing here with a trailer. the road work is horrible and has been going on for 4 years now i know. It is only 2-lane on the bridge and is very narrow due to the resurfacing they are doing on it. I usually am in a small car like a Focus and it scares me to meet a Semi on the bridge even in it going at 35mph.
Just a heads up if you do decide to drive across it there.

You have what many think is the best year Duramax. Why change?
That depends on if it is a NBS or Classic body style.

RE: can you lower power awnings?

The above is NOT how it's done with a power awning. We have one and I've lowered it (you do it by shortening the arms) but I couldn't tell you how to do it. Read the instructions (as I did) and it'll be clear. Ours, at least, can't be lowered quite as much as the manual ones can.
Actually, this is EXACTLY how it is done on my power awning. I still need a step stool to do stuff though. I would never buy another power awning though.

RE: US 80 across KY Lake Closed Due to Crashed Bridge

I guess my camping outings to Hillman Ferry this summer will require me to drive out of the way so i can make my trip to Murray for some BBQ. Oh well, it'll still be worth it (mmmm, Bad Bobs....). I always pulled in my mirrors for that bridge anyways because it was such a horribly narrow bridge.

RE: Meat Smokers

Mine is a Masterbuilt 30" without the window and cost about $175 on sale. Wouldn't change it for any other. uses wood chips and you control what you put in, they are a lot cheaper than the Bradley bisquettes
BassPro sells their smoker, which is made by masterbuilt.

I got into smoking meat in the past year and i have a Masterbuilt electric smoker. It is great and takes little work, and the meat comes out just as good as the charcoal smokers. Give them a look too.

RE: Handheld Weather Radios For Traveling

I might not be correct, but the S.A.M.E. codes designate, state, county, city, etc. This would not work while traveling or you would be reprogramming it every 20 minutes. Unless they make on that will scan all frequencies in your specific area.

RE: new truck.. gas or diesel ?

At this point, I would not even consider any post-2007 diesel under any circumstances. The cost is staggering, the mileage advantage is pretty much gone, and the potential for mega-dollar repairs is just too high.
x2, that was my main determining factor when i got my truck.

RE: new truck.. gas or diesel ?

I would say 8-10 towing with a gas and about 12 with the diesel. Really no need for the extra power with only 6k trailer, but if you upgrade trailers in the future you might want it.
i wouldn't trade my 6.0 GM for a diesel right now. I get 8-10 towing my 5er and about 18 on the highway with the 3.73 gears. With gas running $3.10/gal and diesel up to $3.95/gal, i have trouble justifying the extra cost.
