RE: Adding coach battery,need assistance

Thanks everyone.I am aware of venting requirements and by doing a simple yahoo search, found some scematics. I am entertaining the idea of agm batteries or an optima. If I go lead acid I will take the proper venting precations.Battery isolator to avoid feedback.Fuses etc....Where I plan on going with this little rig I don't want to take a chance on needing a jump. I let you know how it goes.maybe I 'll even learn to post pics. Hmmmm..... If this is all about avoiding a jump (and having to find someone to jump) perhaps a portable jump starter (available at auto parts, wally world) is all that is needed here.

RE: Roof versus Basement A/C Units.

We have basement a/c in our Itasca. I think having 2 rooftops has an advantage in that there is 2 units instead of 1 just in case 1 decides to go out on you on trip.

Which battery does the frig operate off of again?

In propane gas mode, the ignitor appears to work of the chassis battery. Is that correct? I also have a DC mode. I suppose that works off of the chassis battery too?? 2002 Roadtrek 190P On Edit: I ask this because my frig on gas mode was off and there was a beeping every 20-30 seconds, and I tried to start the van and the battery was dead. The Generator started fine. After charging the battery, the refrigerator comes on just fine.

RE: What Do I Need To Know About Coach Battery Safety?

This brings up a good time for me to ask a question: I need to replace my engine battery. It is a 2003 Chrysler model. It died a couple days ago, and I was unable to start the van. After jump starting it, the van would drive a short distance and then die. I finally made it back home, and am looking to purchase a new battery. I am thinking about replacing BOTH batteries (the engine battery and the rear 12 volt battery) at the same time, because I have no idea the age of the "Everstart Marine" in the rear. I have one of those Centurion converters. It is a 2002 Dodge RT 190P. I'd appreciate any pointers you can give me regarding replacement batteries for both.

RE: Roadtrek 190 or 210

We looked at both and decided on the 190. I like the larger 210, but for our needs, the 190 fit into a regular parking place a little easier (even with the hitch hauler on the rear).

RE: Sprinter Class B Motorhomes

I agree, most campgrounds have propane, but in our Roadtrek, we are seldom at a "campground", and just like this weekend, we are at the rv park at a casino, and there are no spots available for hookup, so we are running off the generator. There is no propane refill at the casino rv park.

RE: Sprinter Class B Motorhomes

I was able to see inside of one of these Sprinter Roadtrek units yesterday. Very nice, but I was disappointed to find out that these diesel units have a PROPANE generator. I was expecting it to have a diesel generator, not propane. That seems cumbersome to have to go get propane for generator usage. The water heater, refrig, using propane in small consumptions is workable, but the generator using propane is a turn off in practicality for me. I make a special trip to go get propane, and only have to go get refilled a few times per year. The guy comes out there eventually, he fills, you gotta go inside and wait in line to pay, and has to be during banking hours. Most of the propane dealers around here have limited hours and never open on Sunday, limited on Saturday. I wouldn't want to have to deal with that to power my generator. I want to run to the convenience store whenever and fuel up.

That is one creature that I have never been able to find a purpose for. Nothing eats them that I know of.

RE: Winter-ing the RGV?

We are in Galveston this weekend. Being from Houston, we came to Galveston occasionally. One thing I have never understood about Galveston: Why so much garbage on the beach? It is true there is a lot of sea weed, but there is a lot of trash/garbage itself. Bottles, plastic jugs, cans, diapers! Yesterday, I saw something I don't even want to mention because my wife will get mad at me for bringing it up on this forum. If I were Mayor of Galveston, one of the first things I would do is do whatever it takes to CLEAN UP THE BEACHES. Afterall, it is one of Galveston's main attractions. I realize there is nothing that can be done to make the water crystal clear or Florida like quality, but the beaches need cleaning up BIG TIME. ESPECIALLY WEST BEACH.

Favorable developments from waiting

A few months ago, I posted some problems I was having with my Onan Generator, and another problem with the rear-end differential making popping noises. For the Onan generator, as suggested, I ran a couple cans of SeaFoam through it. It helped a little on the surging but it still surged. For the rear-end differential, as suggested by Dodge, we changed the rear end fluid, and added the required friction modifier (Mopar brand). It helped a little, but it still made noise. To solve the generator, it was going to require it to be removed, and carburator replaced, so I estimated an easy $500 To solve the rear-end, it was going to require a new center section, installed and all was estimated to be around $1500 Not wanting to give up $2000 in repairs, I waited. Drove it anyway. About 1,000 miles later.... No more surging on the generator!! No more rear end noise!! So, I drive on .... :)

RE: Class B Generator Question

I have a 2002 Dodge. The A/C unit is a 8,000 btu unit. My Honda EU2000 powers the a/c with no problem. Just get a large cable lock to keep it from walking off.

RE: Roof waxing/polishing - how to

I had no issues doing my Roadtrek from an 8' stepladder with a thick old bath towel draped & taped around the top, deployed as Booster posted. Lean it against the upper side of the van, don't open it. '/', not 'A'. I can even use the same ladder for the Tiger, which is much taller and wider. I just have to go up higher and lean across more. On the Tiger's white gel coat roof, I use old-fashioned liquid Turtle Wax twice a year, applied and removed by hand. Jim, "Mo' coffee!" '/', not 'A'. Thanks. I understand. I'll try that next time.

Roof waxing/polishing - how to

Just curious to know how you all wax/polish the top of your Class B? Even a tall ladder doesn't let me get close enough. I used a Shine-mop thing to apply and buff off. Any other ideas?

Kemah Texas Boardwalk

Has anyone been to the Kemah,TX boardwalk with their Class B?? Parking is $6. My question is, will they come ask you to leave if you sleep in your Roadtrek/Class B overnight in the parking lot?

RE: What one learns accidentally

The manual for the Onan 2800 also has a maintenance schedule and it is recommended to check the oil "every day or every 8 hours". OK... fess up everyone... How many RV owners actually do this? no friggin way

RE: An Electrifying Thought

We have a 2011 Nissan Leaf. Have had it since June. It is wonderful. I do not tow it behind the motorhome yet. It is super quiet to drive. It will squeal the tires if I step on it. No oil changes, oil filters, coolant changes, transmission fluid change, no alternator, fuel pump, fuel injectors, belts, timing chains, and the list of no longer needed maintenace items goes on and on. We love the car and would buy it again, so far.

RE: Had a ride in a Chevy Volt

I have a 2011 Nissan Leaf. Have had it since June. I have absolutely no complaints about the car. It is wonderful. It drives great, the heater works great, the a/c works great (even when it's 100 degrees outside). On city streets I get around the 90-102 miles on a charge. On the highway driving 70 mph, I get about 70 miles. If I drive 55, I get about 75 miles. It costs me about $1.80 in electricity to charge it up. I do not tow it behind the motorhome yet. It is super quiet to drive. It will squeal the tires if I step on it. Battery is 8 year warranty. Battery replacement after that is likely to be "cells" of the battery, not the entire battery. So, Nissan is saying hundreds of dollars for battery replacement, not thousands of dollars. No oil changes, oil filters, coolant changes, transmission fluid change, no alternator, fuel pump, fuel injectors, belts, timing chains, and the list of no longer needed maintenace items goes on and on. We love the car and would buy it again, so far. you are welcome to PM me with any questions as well.

RE: Roadtrek into shop today : Not good -update on shutter noise

I replaced all 4 of my ball joints in my 1997 Xplorer, Dodge 3500 chassis, last year. That really improved the steering. I had it done at a local spring shop where I've gone for 20 years for $650. The Dodge Dealer wanted more than double that. That seems to be a great price for that job.

RE: Roadtrek into shop today : Not good -update on shutter noise

The noise takes place only at slow speeds when making a turn. It doesn't make the sound when going straight. Only at corners. So far, it is still doing it. Driven it 100 miles so far since the fluid change.
