RE: caulking on a new trailer

My 2011 is still under warranty. Do you think caulking is an item that warranty would cover? I never thought of trying warranty. I guess I could place a call to the factory and ask. Thanks for the tip.

RE: caulking on a new trailer

Thanks guys, I'll be picking up that tool tonight. Since I work full-time I don't really enjoy spending much of my spare time caulking the trailer, but guess I'd better do it.
How often should I plan on doing this? Just curious. I'm new at this RV life and so far it seems like a signed up for a part-time job working on my trailer.

caulking on a new trailer

This past weekend we picked up our one-year old trailer from its' winter (outside) storage. Immediately we noticed that the caulking had yellowed and cracked. Some of the cracks are lengthwise the entire length of the seam. Do any of you have remedies for this? Is there a way to remove the old caulk without damaging the paint? Cosmetically the yellow caulk is not attractive as it makes the trailer look older, but maybe I'm just being too picky. I'm worried about the seams leaking when it rains.
What do you think?

RE: what is the best stabilizer to use

We just ordered the Steady Fast system. Go here: http://www.steadyfast.com/?gclid=CJXJ3tGZma8CFQfqnAodujyhLw
It looks like a system that is easy to use; there is a video on that website. Another big reason for us was that it is manufactured here in the states. Companies who ship their jobs overseas and thus don't want to give Americans any jobs, but do want our money, are not the companies I patronize.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

RE: Power caster

Thanks everyone. I called PowerCaster and they are sending me a set of plans. With those plans and the youtube videos I ought to be able to put something together. Also, there are some pictures on the PowerCaster website that show details of the adapter bracket. So I guess I'm good to go.
Thanks for the help.

RE: CrossRoads Elevation

We love our Cruiser and the company in general. However, we have no experience with the model in question.

Power caster

Has anyone used a Power Caster on a 5er? What kind of bracket did you build/buy that allowed you to hook up to the 5er? Does anyone have any plans drawn up to make such a bracket?
Thanks,
Greg

RE: stabilizers

Mile High,
JT Strong Arms are made in China and so are Winfields. The only ones I have found that are made in the USA are Steady Fast and PlugitRight.
I'll be buying one of these two.

RE: stabilizers

Thanks everyone. I learned a lot about the benefits of the products and also some brands I didn't know about.
Also, I don't know why now, but through this experience I realized that every company that ships all their jobs overseas wants to have all our money ie. wants to sell as much product as possible, but they don't want to give us any jobs. The depth of incongruency of that really hit me through the conversations on this thread. And I'm going to do everything in my power not to support that level of greed.
So, thanks to your help, I'm going to find out which of the products listed are manufactured in the USA and then buy one of those.

stabilizers

This summer I'm going to put some kind of stabilizer on our trailer to stop it from rocking. I've heard about these items on here before, but just did a search and didn't find those threads. From memory I think people mentioned JT Strong Arms and Winfield Stabilizers. But there are probably more brands than that.
Please tell me about your favorite brand and how well they work. Would you get the same brand if you were to do that same mod. again?
Thanks,

Upper Michigan

This summer we'd like to camp in our 5th wheel on Lake Superior near Whitefish Point, or Paradise, or someplace near there. We'd like to be able to camp and see the lake from our campsite. I've been googling online but haven't found a campsite that is on the water.
Does anyone know of a campground that is on the water? Did you camp there and did you like it.
Thanks,
Greg

Tow Vehicle Mod

We have a 2004 F350 for the tow vehicle. It doesn't have a factory ambient air temperature gauge. Does anyone know where we could find one that would look good in the truck?

RE: 5er hitch storage

Our hitch is a Pullrite. I think I could release that tension too, I just didn't know if it is a good idea or not.

5er hitch storage

We are rookie RVers and are wondering about proper ways to store the 5er hitch.
When the 5er is not locked into the hitch the release lever is under spring tension. Is there any problem leaving this mechanism under tension while not in use? Should we try to release this tension when it won't be used for many months?
Thanks.

RE: 5th wheel into tight spot

There is also a product called Power Caster that will push a TT or 5er (with adapter) up to 10,000 lbs. Go here: www.powercaster.com

RE: Happy Veterans Day

Greg, I was in Thailand 1966-67 in the USCG building and operating the Loran Station in Sattahip near USAF Utapao B-52 base. Which base were you stationed at. Loved Thailand and would like to visit again. Chris
Chris,
I was at Utapao too '71-72. We went to Patia (sp) Beach a few times and Sattaheap (sp) a lot. I miss the food most of all. I learned to love Thai food.
I flew on EC-135. I repaired the radios in-flight and on the ground. We flew around in a big circle over the Gulf of Tonkin at 41,000 feet. All communications for the war went through our aircraft. Our code name was Combat Lightning. We had a bird in the air 24-7.

RE: Happy Veterans Day

I'm a Vietnam era vet who spent a year in Thailand in the USAF.
Thank you for this thread. There wasn't much thanks back in the day. When I got home from Thailand and walked in my parents house, my dad looked up from reading his newpaper and said, "oh, your home." And then went back to reading his paper. No one else said thanks then either.
So when I hear a thank you now I let it soak in, better late than never, and there is kind of a hole inside that may never get filled up. However, I do appreciate your efforts and am grateful for every thank you I hear now.
Best Regards,
Greg

RE: crossroads 32ck cruiser

Crossroads Cruisers are very well built; square tubing every 16 inches on all walls and ceiling. Compare the R-factor with other units and the Cruiser will usually be higher. I haven't wintered in Kansas, but if the R-factor is better and the structure is stronger than most, seems like it out to hold up okay.
