RE: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum

Keystone RV Company is one of the largest manufacturers of RV trailers. In their individual postings they list the specs for all of their trailers. You are invited to view the individual specs. What design tire do you suspect is their primary OE tire? It’s not 100% but close. They do use a hybrid LT tire that is designed - in part - for use on the RV trailer axles.
Keystone RV
Here are a couple of examples.
Fuzion specs
Cougar specs
Big Sky specs
With almost all of their OE tires being from the ST design it’s pretty easy to work out a chart for failures. Who needs to be sited? The vehicle manufacturer or the tire manufacturer? How important is the owners’ tire maintenance practices? And do owners know the limitations of the ST tire when they purchase their first trailer? Did you consider the history of the tires that came on your trailer, used or new? When they get treated badly or get ill they DO NOT heal.
Tires are talked about in these tire threads primarily because someone had a problem with their OE trailer tires. Most times a simple, single load capacity increase will fix the situation because during the search and conversations the owner of the failed tire (s) has also learned a lot about the trailer tire design and its needs. When a OE tire size is already at it’s maximum load capacity other options are sought out and when cross designs are used their parameters will not match that of the OE tires.
Enter the brand loyalists‘. A size recommendation cannot be made in these threads without the brand loyalists’ jumping in with their brand recommendations. Most people hauling a RV trailer just might have a pretty good idea of what their particular brand name is. But, they might be stumped when it comes to tires designed for the trailer axles. Goodyear is about the only one that is readily recognizable. Mission, Maxxis, Towmaster, Towmax, etc…etc.… may be just names on a tire to them. Carlisle has been in the Special Trailer tire business for a long time but not many outside of the field will recognize their name. Be patient with your recommendations. Lots of users just want to go to the state park a couple times a year and hang out.
FastEagle
OE ST tires are supplied by the lowest bidder.
Lowest bidder = cheapest ST tire that is available.
Cheapest ST tire = problems

RE: grand tetons and yellowstone

Problem is that the OP has listed that he will be in a 40'DP Motor Coach.
If you don't have reservations yet, it might be a problem. Inside the park, there is Fishing Bridge for full hookups and many others that are dry camping. Check on the NPS Yellowstone site. Look Here About the only other option would be one of the many comercial RV parks in West Yellowstone.

FE
So, rather than address the elephant in the room, you choose to run away and hide?
OK, I'll ask it again.
OK Calvin, one more time. We cannot continue to ignore the elephant in the room. All the other tire company insiders here don't hide anything. Wear as with you there is always that question as to where your true loyalties lie.
Are you or are you not receiving compensation from tire companies of any kind or nationality? A simple yes or no will do. Keep in mind that a non answer is essentially a yes answer.
It is beyond belief that anyone that has had as many tire issues with ST tires as you would continue to blindly use them without some sort of compensation. Most here with any common sense would have looked for an alternative a long time ago instead of filling landfills with your discarded tires.
So, it is up to you.

RE: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum

So another tire thread ends at the same point. FE and his pile of documents that is as tall as his pile of failed ST tires trying to convince the world that they are great tires and that one is somehow required to continue to use them.
Many thought this cycle was going to end a couple months ago when he announced that he was getting to old to deal with the tire issues and had decided to install new 17.5 rims and commercial truck tires, which was a wise choice! But in the end it is not to be! He reversed that decision and continues his marketing campaign of ST tires.
His was one of the easy one to rectify having OEM LRD ST rated to 3000 pounds he could have installed a quality set of LT245/75R16E like the Michelin XPS RIBs or Bridgestone Duravis R250's and saved himself and the rest of us a lot of heartaches.
The two tires noted above seem to be the two most highly regarded replacement tires followed by the poly carcass BFG Commercial TA!
I believe the OP said something way back in the beginning about sharing what works in real conditions out on the highway. In most cases that is not ST tires. Very few tire threads are started about LT tire failures with the exception of GY G614's.

X2!!!!!!
Fe is winding up with all his government documents. Let's face it, just because Big Brother wrote it doesn't mean it's the best thing to do. Most government documents are written by lawyers to protect their wealthy clients. They could care less for all us trailer trash.

RE: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum

Funny how everyone...ERS, FE, CapriRacer and others all say the same thing, but if they don't say it the same way with the same agenda it isn't true. Nuances and key words are so important to certian people on these threads that even a slight variation in language is a fight.
Kinda pathetic and silly.
Yet another useless comment from a Carlisle worshiper. Pathetic and silly needs to look in the mirror.

Come on now folks, a good natured poke in the ribs isn't something to get all wound up about. If you have thin skin, don't put yourself in a place where people will poke at you.

RE: Zion NP

Easy there kedanie, no one is picking a fight with the OP. The CG you mentioned and several others outside the park have very poor ratings with a history of exorbitant prices. Many are not aware what a great deal the Watchman CG is, hence the need for reservations for most of the year. If you have not been there you might not realize how easy it is to simply fill up on arrival. I could not care less if folks use hookups and if you don't need them the North CG in the park is a great inexpensive place to stay right across the street from the visitors Center. :C
Well, I have been there. We found it quire nice and not a rip off.
The OP asked a specific question with needs for full hookup. Watchman CG does not fit his requirements. Perhaps yours and others, but not his.

RE: Zion NP

Rather than pick a fight with the OP over whether they really need full hookups, I'll just answer the question.
For a campground with full hookups, try Zion Canyon Campground in Springdale. It is adjacent to Zion across the Virgin river. You can literally toss rocks into Watchman campground. The free Zion shuttle stops on the street in front and takes you into the park.

RE: Fresh Water Tank Vents

Our gravity water fill is behind a large compartment door. There is a vent line at that location. We also have a pass through fill system in the water compartment. The 2 other vents are next to each other on the side of the tank and go straight down through the floor boards draining under the coach. I have to remove a side cover before I can get to them. It is certainly odd.

Fresh Water Tank Vents

I filled our fresh tank on signature coach and the overflow vents(2) drained it to about 2/3's. Then, while driving I noticed that the vents were draining more out. After a day's drive the tank was down to 1/3. After taking things apart, I found there are 2 overflow drains about 2/3's up on the side of the tank in addition to the normal vent on the top of the tank where the gravity fill hose goes in.
I can't understand why these 2 extra side vents are there. Maybe for the pass through hose fill system? Does anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking about plugging them so we can have full use of out water tank if needed.
Any one have any ideas or input on this problem?

Allison Mode Button

We are new to this Class A DP. It was purchased "lightly used" and we are still trying to figure out a few things.
The coach has a 340hp Cummins with a Allison 2500 6 speed trans. The trans control has a button marked "Mode". I looked through the manual and couldn't find anything about it. Can anyone tell me what it is supposed to do? The dealer PDI guy said that it makes the trans down shift less.
Any info will help,

RE: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum

35 pages of mainly 3 posters flapping their gums and inflating their egos about what experts they are. No real information given out, just insider stuff.
What a waste!!!!!!!!!!
Keith
And your specific question is?
Yes, once again, please explain your formula!!!!!!
Simple answer is that the formula calculates the air volume of the tire and applies the inflation pressure P and a service factor (expected usage) K to get the load capacity.
Yet another answer that does nothing to explain anything.
You guys need to get off your tire engineer soap box and speak in terms most RV'ers can understand.

A teaser

So lets get the requested info in boys and girls so we can get the magic decoder ring so we can understand the formula.
A little explanation of the formula you provided would be helpful!!!!
Not everyone here has you high degree of tire knowledge. In other words, put in layman's terms!!!!!!!!!!
Keith
I promise to include both the full explanation and a one line "layman's" explanation after I see some posts with the information I requested.
So, you throw out some formula's and tire industry specific's that most can't make heads or tails of. Then, you demand information before any explanations are offered.
Get off your high horse and be a little more user friendly. Most here will not worship you simply based on what you MAY know. They will condemn and ridicule anyone who self righteously puts themselves above the others to satisfy their own sense of self worth.
Sorry for my rant, but this has been 34+ pages of industry insider's patting themselves on the backs while providing just a few tidbits of usable information. Way too much gum smacking for most to spend much time on.
