RE: New Chevy Trucks-New tailgate opening?

I had to raise my 2008 Gmc Sierra 3500 for the last 4.5 years. My outfitter then sat right against the rear bed and eventially wore asignificant dent in the "tappered" I corrected the problem and bot a 2012 Ram 3500 SRW, fits much, much better now!

RE: How many have a TC and 5th wheel?

We have both a 2007 Outfitter 9.5 Apex and 2004 Hitchhiker 32 ft Discover America and love having both of them. We use both about equally as far as camping nights go but run the TC more miles. Longer trips, less nights spent in one place and more offroading when I want to pull my Jeep Wrangler or pull another loaded trailers. Love the 5th wheel for the room when the weather is poor or we will be entertaining more. Try both and enjoy.

RE: Our camper radio doesn't receive worth a darn.

Yeah, we've got an El Cheapo AM/FM/CD deck in our Outfitter that doesn't pick up stations worth a darn either. And when we do, the sound is crappy with an annoying background hum and/or static. I have thought about trying to put an antenna in, but with your experience, I wonder if it's even worth the effort.
Changed out the radio in my outfitter and installed an Alpine with USB and IPOD connectivity. The radio reception seems better but I like to use my IPOD so great mod for me. Approx $250

RE: memory foam mattress

I replaced out mattress in the Outfitter with a sleep number air mattress that Outfitter installed for us. One of the most comfortable mattresses we have ever slept on. My wife can adjust her side and I can mine, makes for ahappier wife. We were using a 2 inch memory mattress pad on top of our original bed from outfitter not nearly as comfortable.

RE: Driving my Diesel Truck with Camper on

10.065 mpg?
That makes me feel good. We have ordered a 2011 Silverado 3500, Dmax, 4x4, crew cab, long bed, SRW. We will be hauling an Outfitter Pop-up. Out total weight will go around 10,000#. I'm glad to see some real world performance figures. Our new truck is due in next week.
Brian
I have a similar set-up to what you will have, accept I have a 9.5 Apex. The last major trip was 2000 miles, average speed 68-70 mph, average mpg for that trip was slightly over 13. Sometimes I pull a 12,500 pound 5th wheel instead and average slightly over 10 mpg at the same average speeds.

RE: OUTFITTER APEX 8 NEW OWNER'S REPORT

Great information, I really enjoyed the detail sounds like you are pleased with your set-up, sounds like it will work well for your needs. A truck and camper of good quality, ok I am biased.
