RE: Negotiating for Cheaper Rate on Site

The park we are in wanted to charge the daily rate ($45)..after being there a month, for an additional five days. They would not negotiate so we are leaving when the month is up. Not about to pay half the monthly rate for FIVE days!

The Bigfoot can only extend so far also...regardless of the system, the pistons are only so long.

RE: Rig lettering/decorating

Good for you. Great cause. I would say no worries. Consider how large the lettering is on some RV's simply advertising the brand. Also the rental RV's are advertising. The camp ground would have to point to an existing rule and I doubt they would have one.
No...they're are usually a private business that can refuse service at anytime, for any reason...don't need to have anything in writing.

RE: Montana 5th wheels

They all look nice, but of the ones you mentioned, the only one actually rated full time is the Redwood, if I can afford it, that is the one I would buy! If you look at the fit and finish, Redwood is the best, and according to the Redwood forum, a lot of the owners upgraded from Montana's. But they do cost more! Redwood has the 2+5 full time warranty. Unless they have changed their warranty in the last few months, the others don't, but then they are rated as snowbird, not for full time.
Their frame is also built by Lippert,as are the others you mentioned, but theirs is a custom design specially built for Redwood (they call it a Falcon or FIT) Heartland is also a Thor company, Cedar Creek is Forest River. Also look at Open Range, they have some rigs in the same category as most of the ones you mentioned, only the Redwood would be not comparable. I have not looked at the Dutchman Infinity, as it has too small capacity in the water/holding tanks for us. But if you will always be on full hook-ups that may not be a problem for you
For full time, you want the best quality you can find, for the price you can afford. Large heated and insulated tanks, well insulated (for reduced heating and cooling), good galley design, well built, constructed to withstand living in full time. Check the fit and finish. Make sure the floor plan will work for you on a long term basis. I am sure you already know this, sorry I rambled on so.
On edit: As pointed out by others, most manufacturers will not honour the warranty if you live in the trailer full-time, some even if it is an extended period, because of the wear and tear of everyday use.
Bighorn is warranted IN WRITING for fulltime use...and Heartland Landmark now has a 2+5 fulltime use warranty.

RE: Big Horn 3010 RE Anyone?

Whats the differences in construction besides the frames? If the Landmark is way ahead on quality and you were planning on keeping it for a long time might go with it.Just out of curiosity, where are you purchasing it?
There are no differences in construction between Landmark and Bighorn. Both are built on the same style frame (most are 12" and smallest units are 10"). The 3010RE Bighorn is 34'11" while the Landmark Key Largo is 40'6"...thus the difference in frame size. The larger Bighorns will have a 12" frame.
Both brands are built on the same production line. Finishes, features, and warranty are the biggest differences between them. The major difference for me is the double-ducted, whisper quiet A/C in the Landmark...that's what I want!!

RE: 6 pt hyd auto leveling system and Roto-chocks

The system lifts the rig off the suspension...no need for chocks. You hook up and then hit auto retract, so it's still on 6 legs until after you're hooked up.
So your saying that a 5th wheel leveled with auto leveling system will always be in the correct position for king pin and hitch to properly engage.....no high hitching or king pin being too low? :h
And when you unhitch, drive truck out from under king pin the trailer is just going to sit there and wait for you to go inside and auto level on a sloped camp site?
Wheel chocks on first and off last for me.......auto level system or not.
No, that's not what I'm saying...the Level-up has a feature that from the point of being completely level, remembers where it was when you unhitched and will take the unit back to that position...which is obviously off-level at that point. After hitching you then hit auto-retract and it then pulls up all six legs and your done. When sitting down you do the reverse...lower your landing gear, unhitch (which the Level-up then remembers), pull the truck away and then hit auto-level. Also, you do not "go inside"...the control panel is mounted just inside the off-door side cargo bay...as soon as DH pulls truck out, I hit auto-level and we're done!
If parking on a "sloped" site we will occassionally use chocks in the direction of the slope...but that is rarely needed. In our opinion, after three years of using this system, and using chocks maybe 3-4 times...Rotochocks would be overkill. But then we don't usually stay in places that unlevel.

RE: Goodyear Tires AGAIN Gone Bad

Do you want to end this? Install 17.5 inch tire and wheel package. I see it is finally an option on new pnes. And with a 4700 pound load rating you wont have problems again. What is your aggrivation worth?
X2! We changed a year ago and haven't had an issue since. No more driving in the rearview mirror!!
http://www.trailertiresandwheels.com/site/1284278/product/0377865
I also hope you kept the tire because GY paid for all my repairs 3 times. We have GY 114 "H" now...
This is exactly what we just did too! Stuck with Goodyear 114's because GY is good about paying claims...but don't think we'll have to worry about that anymore. Oh,and by the way, the GY 114's have a capacity of 4,805 lbs per tire, not 4,700....

RE: Another RV fire

1- Just installing Halon back there will not guarantee anything. That's what I thought until someone posted a picture of an extinguisher that never tripped during a fire. It HAS to be in the proper position.
2- The comment about Amish IS valid. It's a known fact that the Norcold 1200 series has problems, and there are no documented Amish failures at all. We also don't know what fridge this really was.
3- Gas/ elect: Good question, but the popular opinion is that these ignitions happen on electric.
That's why we had Mac the Fire Guy supervise the installation of a Halon suppression system in a fridge compartment at a rally...

RE: RV dealer

RVs For Less relies on selling trailers for no money but in return offering no service. They have no parts department, no finance department, and no service department. I think once the sales market returns to a more stable source of business, they'll quickly find themselves replaced by a more reputable establishment.
On a side note - I'm a fan of religion, but they really push the subject. Last time I was there they tried to pray for me because I didn't accept their charitable propaganda.
There are plenty of other competitive dealers that have made investments in offering you the full service after the sale. I'd look beyond this company.
X2...found them to be less than honest in my dealings with them...and yes, the one in Knoxville....

RE: Not again

Debit Card, the only way to go...
Never, ever use your debit/credit card as a debit transaction - always use it as a credit card transaction...if they get ahold of the card number and used as a debit transaction your loss is however much is in your checking account - if you use it as a credit card your losses are limited to $50...
Bank of America has replaced every dime when our debit card/checking account was compromised...twice!!! They caught it once and we caught it the other...

RE: Trading a for fiver

We've been fulltime in our '08 Bighorn for five years now....towed it all over the country for more than 60,000 miles on it's Lippert frame...only problem we had in the beginning was busted springs which they promptly replaced, and last summer after years of twisting and turning, backing into parking spots, a spring hanger snapped off. It's been replaced and 2" square steel tube welded between the hangers from one side of coach to the other...won't have to worry about the hangers anymore. Plan to tow this puppy for several more years...bet we end up with over 100,000 miles on it before we upgrade to a Landmark.
In addition, just went thru a vicious storm here last Thursday, 70 mph hour winds, driving rain, the hail just missed us...and this baby stayed perfectly dry...don't think we could have found a more reliable 5er!!
P.S. What Jimtoo said...x2

RE: Big storm last night, what's your report.

The most we had, here in Mission, was a lot of downed trees, etc. Everyone's rigs came thru OK and the houses and coach houses were fine (except it took my screen door right off the back...bet I latch it from the inside next time we have a storm come thru). North McAllen seems to have gotten the worst of it...
Oh, the worst part...killed our Tail Light Karaoke/DJ Party early...bummer....

RE: Redwood quality?

Crossroads is the manufacturer of the Rushmore, not the Redwood. Redwood's parent company is Thor....
Actually, Crossroads is the parent company of Redwood, Thor is the parent company of Crossroads and therefore,Redwood. A recall that was just done on the Redwood was done by Crossroads as the parent company. Redwood Residential Vehicles is a stand-alone division of Crossroads. This was posted on the Redwood forum recently. (being a division of Crossroads avoids duplication of services, such as accounting and warranty, apparently)
That would make sense....when you look at Thor's website though, it shows them as separate and equal entities under the Thor umbrella....
Isn't this where you usually go into your rant on how much you hate Thor:?,Lippert any anybody else that built your Bighorn:h
I challenge you to show me anywhere I've complained about Thor, Lippert or especially Heartland...fact is, I LOVE my Bighorn, as most here are aware! Either you've confused me with someone else, or you're delusional...based on previous conversations with you, I'm betting on the later...
If you have nothing constructive to contribute to the conversation, why don't you just keep quiet????
