Good tent campground near Williamsburg, VA

I'm taking my 10 year old daughter on our first tent camping adventure in early June. I want the experience to be pleasant so she will want to repeat it. I found a nice State Park in Virginia near Williamsburg, but it didn't have the gravel tent areas I am used to seeing at COE parks in our area. Looks like you would pitch the tent on grass and dirt. Fine if it stayed dry, but not so fine in the rain. Only need bath house with hot water and electric at the site. I'm new to tent camping, but not RVing. I want to try something that will make the drive a little more pleasant. Convertible camping sounds fun! Does anybody know of a good tent campground in the Williamsburg, Jamestown area?

RE: Windows Media Player; no sound when playing iPhone video

You're probably missing a codec for the audio. Try a player called VLC media player from the internet. It's never failed to play audio for me yet. They keep it updated for a multitude of audio codecs much better than Windows. It's an open source product that can be found here. Installed this software. Works great. Quicktime was real jerky on the video, almost like a slide show, but did have sound. WMP had great video, but no sound. VLC was just right!

Windows Media Player; no sound when playing iPhone video

Windows Media Player has no sound when playing iPhone video. Why? When I play the video on iTunes the picture is very jerky. Pic is great on WMP.

RE: Boat Trailer Tags?

No. They aren't required in KY either, and I have towed my boat on trailer in AL, TN, GA and FL without incident.

RE: 2002 Dodge Cummins 2WD Extended Cab Longbed 6 speed stick

Whats a good price? Asking $11,900. Retail is $10,500, Sometimes in older specialty vehicles the book is too low.

He is going to check to see if it has been replaced. What are these trucks worth from a dealer? I've been watching for a while and haven't seen one this nice

2002 Dodge Cummins 2WD Extended Cab Longbed 6 speed stick

I'm looking at a 2002 Dodge Cummins 2WD Extended Cab Longbed 6 speed stick with 150,000 miles. Anything special to look for on this model? I know to ask about lift pump (fuel pressure) maintenance. Do the 2wd have the front suspension issues of the 4WD? It won't be a daily driver.

RE: PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER

Has anyone ducted a portable AC straight up through an overhead vent?

RE: sling box

I researched the iPhone app for the Vulkano. There is no provision to export the picture and sound to a TV, at least according to the reviews I read.

RE: Livin Lite Camplite owner - review/comments

Kind of disappointed at the mileage. I guess it is the wind resistance that kills the mileage.

Decent Motel in Williamsburg, VA area

I'm planning a convertible trip with my 10 year old this summer. One of the stops will be Williamsburg. Anyone know if a decent Motel (inexpensive but clean in a good area) in the area? A little drive will be OK because we plan on doing Jamestown the same day.

RE: portable generators

A Honda EU2000 starts my AC at 800' above sea level, with everything but the AC shut off. I have a cigarette lighter plug by my tv that I use to power it through an inverter. Larger gensets are nice, but remember you have to carry and store them. I have a spare EU1000 that I can parallel with my EU2000 if I need extra power. I really haven't needed it for my summertime parking lot boondocking needs. I would like to go to Mammoth Cave NP and Ocracoke NP, but the genset quiet hours have scared me off. Would they let a Honda run all night?

RE: Jayco Skylark 21 FKV: Opinions please

Is the standard AC big enough to cool the camper in Florida heat? I've already decided I would need to get a gas furnace for my Spring Break, Christmas and Fall Break parking lot overnights on my trips home from Florida.

RE: Slingbox

Will Slingbox work with 3G from an iPhone connected to a TV?

RE: Traveling in the Fl. Keys?

Stayed at Geiger Key over Christmas and loved it. Waterfront site is a must. Had our own tiki hut. Loved the on-site restaurant. Close enough to Key West (10 miles) that we took the scooter into town several days.

RE: Best trailer at RV show

It combines the dinette area and couch; 2 things that are never used at the same time anyway. I've got the big rear window, but the chairs face the wrong way, and the TV is a long way away. It only weighs 2,500 pounds less than what I have. My dry weight is 7,500 pounds. Is that enough difference to notice while towing with my V-10 Excursion that has 4.30's? Easier towing would mean a lot to me.

RE: Top 3 KY State Park Campgrounds

I like Waitesboro COE park on the lake at Burnside. I have reservations (waterfront site) for the July 4th week.

RE: Off Road Scooters?

My 1985 Honda Elite 250 weighs less than 300 pounds and will easily go 65-70. It isn't a dirt bike and wouldn't begin to take on the trail in the above picture, but neither would any other scooter. Look around on Craigslist. I carry mine on the front of my excursion, and it doesn't block the headlights.

RE: Honda vs Yamaha

Keep in mind an EU2000 will require an auxiliary tank to run all night. With eco off it will start and run the smaller air conditioner as long as the altitude is not that great, provide everything else is switched off. It is easy to supplement with another EU series generator should 2000 watts be insufficient. It is easy to store and carry around. One strategy is to switch all breakers off except the air conditioner, and use a small inverter in the cigarette lighter plug in the entertainment center to run the TV. A heavy genset can cause a lot of problems.
