RE: This airline says you must buy two tickets.

Definitely about time and I am not being derogatory to those that need the two seats. It is just that I shouldn't have to share my seat, that is no bigger than need be anyway, with the person sitting beside me. A couple of years ago, I was on a full flight, and the person sitting beside me started to raise the middle arm rest. I said no I am using that arm rest and I made sure I used it. I am sure he was uncomfortable but I didn't feel the need to ease his discomfort at the expense of my own.

RE: Lexington, Ky To Topeka, KS

We came back from Kentucky to Kansas via I64 - I70 in June. There was some road construction on I64 but wasn't a problem until we got to St. Louis. Between the construction, flooding and normal inner city traffic congestion, making that connection from I64 to I70 in downtown St. Louis was not something I would want to do again and we came through on a weekend. I believe I subsequently read where it is better to take I64 to I255 (in Illinois) go up I255 to I270 and come across into Missouri on I270. We took I270 going east to bypass I70 in downtown St. Louis and found it to be a good road with moderately heavy traffic, but no major problems.

RE: Newbie question about diesel fill up

Measure your trailer so you know the actual height and write that figure down so you don't forget it. Be ever vigilant when approaching all overhead structures. That being said, most truck stops have canopies that 18 wheelers can clear so you will have plenty of clearance. Other fuel stops, especially older stations, may not have the necessary clearance. So look, look, look before you try to go under a canopy. If you have a droid or iphone, there is an ap that will tell you truck stop locations. Those that are listed should all have clearance you need. Unless you travel some out of the way roads, you should have no problems locating fuel on your trip. From personal experience, it is not clearance for height that creates the problem. It is clearance to get the truck & trailer from the pumps back to the road. Many, if not most, stations/convenience stores have car parking in front of the stores that restrict your path of travel if cars are parked there. But if push comes to shove you can back out the way you came in. Have fun on your trip.

RE: Surge Protector

After an unfortunate incident in Canada where a 30 amp circuit was wired incorrectly to 220 and fried everything electrical in the RV, we got the Progressive Industries surge protector/low voltage meter. It has saved our bacon a couple of times in the last two years. Because of layout, we couldn't use the hardwired version so I put a cable lock on the surge protector and around the power post. It won't stop a determined thief but it will stop basically honest people.
As for the comment about your insurance company covering anything that is fried, don't count on it. Our insurance covered all things (minus deductible) that are connected to the RV, i.e. converter, microwave, refrigerator control boards, etc. However much to our chagrin, our TV's, satellite receiver, radios, fans, etc come under our homeowner's policy with a separate deductible. Since we have a high deductible on our house, we ended up paying for that stuff out of pocket. Best advise, get a surge protector and check the fine print in your insurance policy.

RE: Need Help with Microsoft Excel 2003

Check to see that you don't have hidden rows or cells that are limiting access to the top of the worksheet. Also check settings under view to make sure you haven't inadvertently locked the viewable area.

RE: Mission or Brownsville, TX.

We will be back to Weslaco for our 9th winter. It is pretty centrally located, except for going to the island or Brownsville, and is easy access to most of the activities in the RGV. The cheapest golfing by far is Ft. Brown in Brownsville where you can walk 18 holes for $12. We drive down there a few times during the season to play the course and it is about 45 miles from our park. It is also an hour's drive to SPI. As mentioned, there are plenty of RV parks to choose from and plenty of golf courses with rates of $25 to $30 for 18 holes with a cart.

good source to purchase a cell phone

One of our cell phones is about to bite the dust. I would like to purchase a phone that would work with Verizon. However I don't want to buy it from Verizon because I don't want to extend our contract for two years, which they automatically do when you purchase from them. What is a good source to buy such a phone?

RE: Traveling West on Int 70 Ohio to 44 in St Louis

I don't know about getting to I44 from the east but I do know that getting from I65 to I70 from the east is no picnic in St. Louis. Between some flooding on the Missouri, road construction and traffic (and this was Saturday morning), it was a little dicey. The good news was we got through with no dings and only a couple finger salutes. It looked to me that the I44 connection was in the same general vicinity. I too would look at a possible bypass even if it added a few miles.

RE: Traveling West on Int 70 Ohio to 44 in St Louis

X2 that ride across Indiana will be rough. We went from KS to PA on I70 and Indiana won the prize for worst road, hands down. At least in Ohio, you could tell they were trying to repair the bad sections. In Indiana, we saw no evidence of repair or reconstruction work. Guess budget problems have curtailed all such work.

RE: Forest River quality???

I think Forest River has essentially the same outcome as any other brand. There are many trailers manufactured with little or no problems and there are some that are a major PIA. We have a 2004 Cedar Creek by Forest River and it has been essentially trouble free. We had to have the axles realigned which Forest River paid for but that has been it. I don't know about the Wildcat line but it seems from reading the forum that there are many Wildcat owners out there that are quite satisfied with their rig.

RE: Eternabond

Where do you buy the awning tape and what is the brand name, if applicable? The top, approximately 4" wide strip, of our awning is badly weathered but the rest looks like new. I have read of folks removing the awning, cutting off the weathered section, and putting the shortened awning back on. It seems to me that taping over the weathered section would be easier. I have most of a roll of 4" eternabond that I was thinking of putting over the weathered part. But maybe awning tape would work better.

RE: Rushing in a fifth wheel is never good!

When we traded trucks, we kept our V fifth wheel tail gate as the dimensions were the same on both trucks. However the new truck has the backup camera in the tailgate so we can't use the fifth wheel tail gate. We are being extra careful that we don't crunch the new one. So far, so good. Now we have a nice fifth wheel tail gate hanging in the shed. I guess I should list it on Craig's list.

RE: EZ Flex installation cost?

Parts and labor for the EZ-Flex cost us about $250 last month. Definitely smoothed out the ride and provides peace of mind with the wet bolts.

Best route to Frankfort, KY

WE are currently outside of Lancaster, PA/ We will be heading to Frankfort, KY when we leave here. We came across I70 and Pennsylvania turnpike on the way here and were not impressed. However, is that is the best way back west, so be it. We were thinking of going back to Columbus, OH, heading and going through Cincinnati. Is there a better route considering we are towing a 35' trailer?

RE: So far we are the only ones

We normally fly an American flag everyday. But we had to take down the old one last week as it was tattered and when I went to the closet to get a new one, I didn't have one. I always order two at a time so we have a spare and I guess I forgot to order when we put the last new one up. My bad, but new flags are on order.
