RE: The goods, and the bads of a Gas MH

We had a 32' class C with the Ford V-10 and 5 speed Torq-Flight and got 7-8. We now have a 35' class A with the 8.1 and 6 speed Allison and get 7-8. I like both of them, you just can't expect better mileage driving a brick shaped house on wheels. Oh, we tow a 4,200lb. Jeep Liberty.

RE: Camping World in Mission, Texas, gone for good

I believe or hope, they will open another store in the area. That place was busy all the time with the snowbirds buying stuff and getting their RV's serviced. I am in there every winter buying items instead of having to pay for shipping when we are back home.

RE: Walmart parking lot stays - need advice please

2 women and 4 children should stay in a campground just for the security factor alone, IMHO.

RE: How to break the ice with our CG neighbors?

I put out a sign that says "STAY AWAY"! That draws them right in.

RE: Booth Dinette???

We had a booth dinette on our first motor home and D.W. ordered a table and chairs on our current coach (over my objections) and we really regret it now! You lose the extra storage underneath and the ability to make another bed out of it. This isn't a big problem for us until the grandchildren are traveling with us.

RE: Step support

In a pinch those little orange leveling blocks work great too.

RE: Waterproofing matches

Can you just carry a BIC lighter? Works when wet and requires no extra preparation. Just mentioned as an alternative. Ditto x3

RE: Are you going back next year?

RGV again next year. $1,000 cheaper than Florida. Pretty darn windy though. Sorry, I may be a little bias (of course, I LIVE here), but giving up lush greenery and access to water, big or small, in any direction wouldn't be worth the price difference to me. We've been in the RGV for 5 years now. Bought our lot 4 years ago because of the greenery (full lawn with underground sprinklers) palm trees (ours),fruit trees (ours), within 1 hours drive to the water and any kind of eatery or shopping center you would be interested in. What keeps us coming back is the friends we've met that also return, and the very inexpensive entertainment every day and night of the week. You just can't beat it. Oh, did I mention the wind? That's what keeps our 80+ degrees tolerable. Happy Trails, y'all!

RE: The Wife dropped a bomb on me.

Sounds like you have a very smart wife! In this (or anytime) economy, renting and trying it out before you actually buy makes sense.

RE: V-10 Synthetic vs Conventional Oil

We had new 05 Minnie and at the first oil change, I went with Mobil 1 5w/20 and changed it once a year. I've done the same with my class A, Mobil 1 5w/30 and have no regrets.

RE: Refueling Issues: Size Matters

Back when I was towing with a gasser I would start looking for exits along the highway that had two or more gas stations available. Of course that’s no guarantee of ease of use. I had a couple of occasions where I had to have my wife spot me as I pulled away from the pumps. My opinion of course, but if you’re not nervous about pulling into the gasoline fuel islands at a station, then you are an accident waiting to happen. Being nonchalant leads to inattentiveness. Of course you should be nervous about pulling a 50 rig into a fuel island designed for automobiles. I was always nervous pulling into the regular islands at filling stations. Years ago these forums were nothing but helpful and encouraging, but over the past years this has been changing. There have already been three people express the opinion that if your nervous about pulling into a filling station then you shouldn’t be driving. How helpful is that? x2! Driving a gas coach with a toad is more difficult than a truck with a fiver because you can't back up.

RE: Rio Grande Valley Activities, Dining, Entertainment, More

We really enjoy the entertainment at all the parks. One of our favorite groups is the Link Family. We'll miss their Christmas show as we won't get to the Valley until New Years Eve, but we'll catch them a couple of times when we get there. Check the weekly Winter Texan Times for locations and times of all RGV entertainment, dances and goings on. Most are first rate and very affordable.

RE: Bounder 35E

The Bounder is a good coach and the V-10 and the 5 speed torque flight tranny are a good combo. I had that power train in a 31' class C and loved it, plenty of power and reasonable mileage on flat land. Enjoy your new motor home!
