RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

I don't do that if the laundryroom is busy, just when there's only a couple of us in the cg.

RE: How to remove anti-freeze from hot water heater

If you're dewinterzing just run the hot water tap just about forever. That'll flush it out.
You won't really hurt anything by running the water heater; the water will be fizzy and taste funny but it'll clear, but it's better to just let it run out.

RE: Why do you hide your identity?

I don't hide but I do try to keep what should be private indeed private such as absolutely personal stuff which shouldn't be divulged anyway.
The fact is, though, if you participate online, you can be found and info could be brought into the public eye because much of it is in fact public info.

RE: Just thought I'd share!

Well...Mom insisted so we turned on the A/C for a little while today.
Florida's being a little perverse this year. We had a low of 26F last week. then back up warm this week. OTOH our other CG in north Geogia hit 12F last week...
And fwiw we're in one of two rv spots lakefront in a fish camp in southcentral Florida for the princely sum of $300/mo. No sardines in a field for us.

That's ridiculous.
Assuming it's not new, hit it with some Gluvit (marine supply) then sand and paint.

RE: Am I the only husband who does most of the driving?

I the DH do all the driving. DW could certainly do it; she's driven buses etc, but she hates driving.
DW is the naviguessor. You can see where this is going...

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

We've winnowed down the clothing to a bag of "nice" stuff we never wear and two t-shirts and two shorts. Therefore we do laundry every week with the previous week's clothing plus towels etc.
It's no big deal to put it in the washer, wander back in an hour or two, then put it in the dryer and wander back in an hour or two..or tomorrow morning...
It's not like we do any strenuous activities that'll sweat anything up.

RE: Patio Mat fold or roll?

We stopped fooling with mats a couple of years ago when a sandhill crane ate a corner of our mat. Dunno what that was about but he didn't like me shooing him away.

RE: Fuel Storage Question

When we got our old C the carb was fouled something awful. We ran several bottles of Techron through and while it helped it still wasn't right. We eventually followed our mechanic's advice and installed a new carb.
Two years later, she fires up on the first couple of cranks. If we're on the road traveling we don't add anything, but if we're sitting a while we add Stabil.
Last year we had to leave a car sitting for eight months. We poured in Stabil and when we returned and cranked up the car it fired right up first crank.
I'm a believer but I look at it this way; Stabil is lots cheaper than a carb or fouled injectors.

RE: Tire Blowouts and a Thanks

I think the plan is to floor it and let inertia straighten you out. Never been there myself in an RV, just in a car, but it's the same general idea.
It's counterintuitive, but the worst thing you can do is stand on the brakes. You're gonna be all over the road anyway, but if you can regain control that's what counts.
As for the accident mentioned, we don't have enough info to speculate.

RE: Initiation Begins...repairing leak....

Ideally you should pull the windows and put new tape underneath, butyl or double-sided Eternabond your choice.
Then run a bead of Proflex around the upper and sides.
Once you've done all that and you still have a leak...
I found that the windows were still leaking under the plastic strips that supposedly prevent leaks, leaking around the sides and filling up the channel. I ended up putting in new tape, Proflex all around _and_ sealing up any other place water could get in. No, the windows no longer open, but so far they aren't leaking. So far...

RE: best west coast FL roads

> reason not to continue up I-75 to 98
No, not particularly. Might be less traffic across to 19 that way; traffic through LOL can get rather thick around rush hours.

RE: best west coast FL roads

Go up 75 to SR 56 / Land O'Lakes exit, head west through LOL and get on the Suncoast Parkway northward; that'll get you past the congested city areas. The Suncoast drops you off on US 98; take 98 west to US 19 and go north.
You won't see any water and you'll see lots and lots of pine trees, but it's a pleasant drive with little traffic north of Crystal River.
At Perry head west on US 98.
There's a CG at Newport on the St. Marks river run by Wakulla County. It's not much, w/e only, but after that long slog you might want to stop for the night and there's practically no other CGs in the area. From Newport you could make day trips down to St. Marks, you could go down through the St. Marks NWR to the lighthouse / park area at the end of the road, and be sure to go to Wakulla Springs SP and take the boat tour (no camping).
From Newport head west on US 98; 98 heads south near the coast near Panacea, then west at Bald Point and you'll start seeing water. Continuing further west you'll see more and more water until you're right alongside the water approaching Apalachicola.
I haven't been west of Apalachicola on US 98 in so long I don't know how it is.

RE: Little Talbot Island FL--alternative to Anastasia?

Little Talbot is remote and rustic, way off the beaten path.
Many if not most sites are fairly small and unlevel, which isn't a big deal if you're prepared. Bring some boards.
There are a few longer level sites by the boat ramp.
Also recommended is Crooked River SP near St. Mary's GA, with roomy, level sites. See our blog for some pics.

RE: Health Risk from Using Calphalon Cookware

All PTFE nonstick coatings can outgas at very high temps and that gas can be toxic to birds.
Calphalon produces PTFE-coated nonstick aluminum pans, anodized aluminum pans, disc-bottom and clad stainless steel pans.

RE: St. Augustine CG's

A related question...
We're planning to stay at Anastasia SP in early March, 27' MH, no toad. We've heard tidbits about parking the MH at the Old Jail trolley tour parking lot and/or near the welcome station sort of across the street. Are those options still valid?
Thanks.

Umm..yeah, but this old rustbucket isn't about to go that fast very comfortably.
We did notice that every shopping center parking lot was chockfull. Seemed like there was far less traffic when we went north that way last March.

RE: Dish tailgater satellite antenna

We've been using the Tailgater continuously 10 days now, and it's working as expected. We'd used a 1000.4 previously but I wasn't about to monkey with that on the road.
Ours came with 100' RG-6; I've used that to extend the 20' or so in the MH with no problem.
In heavily wooded parks we get partial reception (some sats can't be seen through the trees) but with a clear LOS it's been fine.

US27

We went down through north-central Florida today, Ocala to south of Clermont, for the first time in several years.
Don't think about it, don't even give it a moment's though. The area was a monumental pain. Lots of traffic and every light was red, and there were lots of them.
Next spring we'll be going a ways out of our way either west or east to avoid that mess. The outrageous rampant development in that area has created a huge bottleneck.
