RE: Broken spring

I had the optional 6000# axles in place of the standard 5200# already. The man says they just snap sometimes. He had a huge pile.
Sounds like you were treated very fairly you did good. There is no need to change them all out now as it may be just heve been a fluke or one real hard pothole etc that caused it to happen. I have been towing rvs and race trailers for over 50 years now and never had a spring failure so tis not very common. I do realize they don't make things as they once did butttttttttt. Springs??????? JMHO jb,it is worth what I charged you for it ! Have a wonderful, safe holiday weekend remembering the lives given and changed so we can RV. jmho jb

RE: Do you use cell phones while backing into campsite?

Cell phones work great as long as we both have a signal. I just wished she would remember that if she can't see my mirror, I can't see her signals. It's getting better though.

RE: Interesting Tire Decision, Opinions Welcome

I purchased a replacement set of Towmasters for our unit as I had great service out of the first set almost 6 years. Mine were big 16 inch e rateds. I got four of them mounted & balanced out the door from a small local tire store for $ 460.00. While discussing it over with the salesman whom I have done business with for over 25 years.I asked him if he did much with the Towmasters and he stated he sells more of them than any others for towable rvs. He has a very good distributor 50 miles away and has had absolutely no problems! My previous service and his testimonials sold me. I now have about 6 thousand miles and two years on the second set & we are good to go..

RE: A Question about Keys & Locks on TT's

My Puma has two different set of locks for the two doors. We never use the door in front because it goes into the bedroom, so we just mainly use the back door. We have two sets of keys for both. I had to replace the rear door lock when I got the TT home because of a defective lock. We really only have to use one key to gain access through the rear door. I have two sets of keys, only use one. No problem.....plus if someone finds my key...it makes it hard to figure out what door to use.
X2. My thoughts exactly open the popular one-with the key and unlock the other and use the one you wish... No brain teaser to me...Jb

RE: I have 5 1/2 inch btwn top of bed and trailer

my next adjustment will put me at 6 1/4 above the bed,and about 1 inch high in the front.Im thinking this will be my best bet.
I would go up one more adjustment to get 6 1/4". An inch high in front is no big deal. But hitting your bed rails is.
As some one above said try it and be vigilant as you turn on uneven plains. I would rather not see you by design go nose high as not only does it go through the air harder it also throws a certain amount of more weight on the rear axle thus tires bearings ect on one axle get loaded heavier.I have towed for 8 years at between 5.5 & 6 inches without any problems

RE: How do I connect portable grill to 5ver's LPG tanks?

As long as you "T" into the RV's cylinder BEFORE the RV's regulator, you can leave the one on the grill..
Anything AFTER the RV's own regulator, you will need to remove the one on the grill.. ;)

RE: leaking holding tank valve

My trailer manual says that when dumping, you should first dump the black tank, then leave the black valve open while dumping the grey tank, then close the grey valve and then the black. The theory is that some of the grey tank water backwashes the black tank valve to clean some of the debris off the valve.
The theory most generally referred to is it flushes pipes & hoses.
Many black tanks are located so grey water will never get up to it! Jb JMHO

RE: Black Tank Flush Ques

I have recently began using my 2011 3425 RT for an extended time while on a workamper assignment until Labor Day. I purchased the unit (used) around last Thanksgiving and didn't have much opportunity to use it until I started this job in Mar. I have have full hook ups at my host site. I noticed that the Black tank monitor indicates 2/3 full even though I have dumped the tank. This indicates to me that the tank needs to be cleaned/flushed, which brings me to my question. Does the 2011 3425Rt have an installed flush system? I noticed that there is a capped extended hose (about 3-6") in the docking station (not labeled) along with the "Gray and Black tank" release handles. Is this hose part of the "tank flush system? If not what action should I take? Any other advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
Jim
Since you're stationary so much, you might also consider using some Rid-X, or other active digestive material. Might help break up some of the sludge that's fouling the sensors.
Good suggestion but rides works to slow.there are good active products out the with many times the active enzymes than Ridex it is good in a septic system but not a small quick holding tank. Digest it and Pure Power come to mind.jmho jb

Mine has a spring on it, but I also use a long twist tie around the lid and the plug when plugged in to be sure it does not come out.

RE: Cracks in Dexter StructuraI I-Beams on Jayco 5th Wheel

I have the same crossmember setup on a 2003 Jayco. The welds started cracking on mine. I ended up welding some trusses I made crosswise of the trailer and have had no further issues. I used the trusses because I had some additional use for them being there. Really all you need to do is weld up the crack, fishplate the area, and box the spring hangers. The first two items fix the damage. The latter keeps it from happening again. It involves nothing more than welding a piece of 3/16" thick 2x3 channel to the backs of the spring hangers crosswise of the trailer. You can see what I am talking about by looking it up in the Dexter axle catalog. They recommend it for trailers with 7K and up axles, but I would recommend it in your case no matter what the axle rating is. Alternatively, you could install the Mor Ryde X-factor cross member.
It appears this man fixed it right nice job jb

RE: Roof Seams/Preventive Maintenance

Absolutely! If you do it now, you will never have to re-seal or worry about any roof leaks. I wish we had known about Eternabond on our first motorhome.

RE: Eternabond Issues?

I have had the same thing happen on the vinyl strip on the roof edge molding! All I did was get the area very clean and added a short piece maybe 4 to 6 inches. Starting at the point of unhappiness just below the vinyl & going up onto the main seam of ebond far enough to go all the way across the vinyl and roll out good no problem, you can usually do that from a ladder.
I never use 6in as it is way too hard to control on a radius,I always use 2 inch for that reason.
I would suggest no benefit from adding yet another product into the mix ,finish the job correctly with Ebond and be done with it! I have had some in service over 6 years now with great results.
I am in the process of doing our 2011 one area at a time now.
Lots of luck JMHO jb (Ps when rolling it out do it deliberately but do not over do as that can be a negative also just apply good pressure to seat the material & pop the magic sealant)

You can easily go over the Dicor with Eternabond when you get it just don't put the Dicor to mounded so the ebond will lay flat. JMHO Jb. Get it protected now!

RE: When to replace bearings ?

You should establish a baseline for you, then you know whats going on!
I think I just read somewhere on dexters at least after a repack you tighten the hub to 50 ft lbs not turning it and then back the nut off and retighten finger tight & good to go, Easy way to be sure!
I have done wheel bearings for 60 years and it never was that easy to do.
I read that & on my truck it calls for 24 inch lbs and leave it and tighten the locks or cotter key in the most available hole.
(I do not agree with it being needed every year.) I serviced all types of wheel bearings and on autos it was in the 25000 mile area and some recommended longer intervals than that. If they have disc brakes they are very exposed to a lot of heat. If it isn't submerged it will be just fine as long as it was done right with good grease.. JMHO jb ( most bearings will show discoloration when going bad usually caused by improper maintenance beforehand or a race will get checked or broken through the chrome. As was said they will go many miles of taken care of))
