RE: June 1st 2012 is "Save Calvin's Tooth Day"! p.5

Ok. I think this was already recommended but here is what I have for you.
1. Consult your vet. No doubt this dog needs foods that can be digested easily.
2. When my dogs were aging, my vet recommended the following along with their normal food, which was always Purina brand. Mix 1 cup Uncle Bens Rice. Cook it.
Add some breast of chicken cut up in cubes. (I did mine on the grill) add some frozen veg. such as peas/carrots.
When you heat his food add this to the meat and he will love it.
I had one dog that had Lyme disease and another one that just passed was 16 yrs.
Good luck!

One question. How many pound does your dog weigh, age and what kind of a dog? That would depend how I answer your question.

RE: Did I choose the wrong gear ratio 3.73?

Your rear gear ration will have an effect on gas mileage and pulling capacity. I have a Ford with a 4.1, and all the tow features. I don't get the same MPG you would, but my pulling power is greater. You should be able the check the specs with a dealer or on line at one of the truck web sites.
P.S. Gas vs Diesel would also have a bearing on torque.

RE: It happened again!

Just to clarify:
1. The lever should not be engaged.
2. This will allow the arm to slide open as the jaws open.
3. Position your rig so the hitch just contacts the plate mid way and the pin is lined up with the jaws. (I painted my jaws white for viewing.)
4. As you back the truck up to engage the pin into the jaws you will see the arm slide out and then back in signifying the jaws have closed. (If this does not happen you have a problem)
5. Close the hitch with the lever. If the lever does not go into the indent for closing then the jaws are not fully closed.
6. There is a hole in the lever. It is a good idea to put a lock on it so it won't pop open.
7. Visually check the pin position and jaws.
8. Raise your front jacks so that they are about one inch off the ground.
9. If all is well then you should be safe to do the push/pull test.
If something does go wrong, then the trailer will fall on the jacks and not in your truck bed.
10. After the push/pull test, retract the jacks and close your truck gate.
Proceed with rest of checks.... Lights, locks on RV closed etc.

RE: It happened again!

Wow, that's scary... I just traded a new Reese 15k for a used 20k and I really don't like the 20k. It doesn't automatically close when you back up so you have to pull/push on the release handle until it closes and I have a chucking problem now as well. I too always leave the trailer a little lower and lift up on it so the pin is all the way down into the hitch. Always close the lock so the release handle is secure.
I'm seriously thinking about buying a new hitch.
I had a Reese 16K and had to go up to a 20K due to purchase of a new rig. Unless there is a problem with the hitch you should see that handle slide out and then back in as the jaws close, then close and lock the lever on the handle.

RE: Why is my dog eating cat poop?

The vet called me yesterday, and Romeo had been returned to them and will be coming home to his final resting place. He will now always be with me.

RE: It happened again!

Suggestion. I have a Reese that has 2 jaws that encompass the pin. I always stick my head in the back of the truck and look at the jaws and be sure the pin is set properly. A coat of white paint on the jaws help with visibility as will a flash light. Then do the push/pull test.
You did not say what the rating of your hitch is.

RE: How Long Do Your Tires Last?

RV tires do not wear the same a auto tires. If you are towing you should replace your tires 5-7 years max. from the date of MANUFACTURE covered earlier. Not the date you bought your rig. As a good measure always check your tires for correct COLD pressure before each trip and when you stop check for side wall problems as well as the old kick to be sure they aren't low on air. When we check our school bus prior to each run we bang a crow-bar on the tires to be sure they are good. If they are low you will hear and feel a thud, instead of a bong and the bar actually bouncing back.

RE: black tank sensor

Fill up your tank about half 3/4 full of water and drop a couple bags of ice into tank drive around a while and see if this scrubs the debris off sensor?
Never tried this, but I hear it works.

RE: NJ motorhome inspection

I had a Class A gaser many years ago, and because it is built on a truck chassis you must get it inspected from a business that repairs trucks. A regular Ford, Chevy, etc. dealer can't inspect it. They don't have the equipment. I lived in MA and FL.when I had my unit.

RE: What would you do?

anytime a campground asks how old my coach is, i ask how old their campground is. if its very old or they dont know, or wont answer, i ask what the amperage and water pressure is at the site that im going to reserve. if they dont know, i tell them to call back when they get an answer. i then reserve somewhere else.
not to be contrary, but older coachs can be in better shape than newer ones. i know why they do it, but that it sounds snobbish.
I do have a new 5er, but that is not the issue. I love your response to the CG questions. We all will have older coaches soon. There was one place I visited in NC when I had my "old" unit and they would have not allowed me in. 2007 K-Z 5er. You would not be able to tell it from a current year if they were side-by-side.

Are you sure you have to repack, or do you have the easy-lube? I would repack or ad grease if you have the later. Just 2 or 3 squirts or you could get it on your breaks.

Let them run and if you have a fan to circulate the air, it might help. Keep the blinds down.

RE: Why is my dog eating cat poop?

I will say something to all of you who have dogs and love them having unconditional trust and love. Love them while you can. I lost my companion yesterday and things are not the same. I don't know how I can live with the emptiness and love. He was over 16 but that does not make the difference. His body was deteriorating: cataracts, loss of most hearing and treatable arthritis in his back, but he always could negotiate the house and around the yard. His mind was strong. He could find me and no matter what we had that special bond. He liked to be with me 24/7 and me with him. I cry often.
So, love them despite their faults. Once they are gone, you will feel empty and alone. I will always love Romeo.
I have 2 other dogs and they are not the same. We also foster other dogs for an organization in N.J. to find homes for them. Most of them come from the South and all from Kill Shelters.
BUT NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE MY ROMEO. EVER...

RE: What would you do?

If the CG brochure and website did not mention any vehicle age restriction or ask and deny your reservation at the time, I would say you made the reservation in good faith.
Do private camp grounds have the right to discriminate? Yes, it is their property. Is it wrong, as long as your unit is clean and shows well...yes.
I have seen many CG with this rule and it is not right. RV purchase is expensive and one can not purchase a new unit every 5 years just to stay at a site. Make your voice heard, and if there are CG that discriminate then just don't give them your business. Eventually, they will no longer be around. Oh, and enter a blog with their name such as in "YELP".
Personally, I don't think it's discrimination...kind of like speeding on the freeway. If the posted speed limit is 65 and you're doing 70 are you violating the law...:h..of course, would you get a ticket..:h..not likely, but you could...it's called "selective enforcement".... the "rule" is there but it's up to whomever polices it, to enforce it. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Don't sweat it...Dennis
It is discrimination if your rig is clean, neat and well kept. I agree if the unit looks like a piece of s#@t they have the right to keep it out. If you can't take care of your rig, you sure are not going to take care of your site by leaving it clean and ready for the next occupant.
