RE: Spring Travel Route from San Diego to Florida Etc

We have traveled that route in Jan and April. Weather in Jan , just have to try to look ahead a few days. A few days ago they had snow in El Paso, not the norm.
I suggest at Van Horn, Tx take hiway 90, it's a nice two lane hyway, takes you right on to San Antonio, you'll go thru Langtry,TX where Judge Roy Bean held court.
Plan on a stop in San Antonio, visit Alamo & River Walk.St martinsville in La, near Lafeyette,LA, An RV park called Catfish Heaven.
We always try to make a stop in N.O. If not take I-12 around N.O.
Last year we went to Jacksonville ,then south to Port St Lucie.
Have a good trip.

Grandkids in 55 over resorts

Is anybody else tired of OPG's(other people grandkids).Grandparents don't observe pool times for kids, they let them drive golf carts unsupervised, use adult facilities i.e. pool tables. This goes on at this resort all the time , especially holidays.
I have 18 grandkids, love them all, I just don't bring them to where I and other retirees spend our winters. I know I will get razzed for being a 'grump', everyone thinks their grandkids are somehow entitled to do whatever they want.
I am paying for the amenities provided, not so OPG's can play Marco polo when I am trying to get my morning swim.
and yes, I have reported to management, they would rather not 'offend' anyone. And yes, I know I have the option to not come here and I am real close to making that decision. Am I going to find this same situation everywhere??

RE: CG Host Directions When Parking - No Thank You

Wow, didn't realize so many RV drivers were so adverse to having assistance with parking. At our winter resort all visitors are escorted to the site by a Ranger( volunteers). Still they run over stop signs, bulkheads & curbs, rangers make wide turns with rigs following and still this happens. Once at the site, we asked if they want the rangers help , I would say about 80% that do decline either run over the patio pad, scrape the one palm tree they have to back around, or block the street for extended period of time.Maybe 20% get it right with no problem. Again I would estimate only about 10% refuse the rangers help.
If the customer chooses to NOT have any help, I don't think saying 'I don't need your F&*%(* help' is exactly the most friendly way to come into a park. The ranger/host is there to help, not have a confrontation. Every visitor is reminded how to pull out of the site when leaving, always to the left, so concrete pad is not damaged, still it cost the park big $$$$ every year fixing the damage. I agree most RV'ers know there rig better than some guy in a golf cart, and if that ranger/hosts is not courteous or is disrespectful, then they have a legitimate complaint.

RE: CB Radio

I have a Portable 40 chan handheld CB, I use it for weather & traffic. Don't monitor it all the time. It did com in very handy last summer while in N.H., I had a problem in my DP , stopped in the middle of a very small town, got on the CB, chan 19, asked for a Diesel repair shop, someone came on , gave me direction that probably saved me a tow bill, to days for repair. That one time convinced me, yes I know if you have service, you can probably find the info on cellphone.

RE: Idaho hwy 12

I agree about 12 and I would add hyw 21 Stanley,ID to Boise. I have been thru some beautiful country, of which my wife has enjoyed the scenery mode than me, notwithstanding the fact I think she closes her eyes on those tight mountain passes. But it is all good.

RE: Mice in the TT

I hate those mice's to piece's.......... Yes , I am sure everyone has the remedy, mine is what worked for us, Bounce Sheets, that and an ocassional regular old fashioned trap. Also when we first had them, I cleared/mowed back any long grass near the moho.

RE: Tires (again)

I would check the DOT date on tires. If it is 05 also, you should be fine.
sometimes manufactures use tires they have had on hand for year or more.
I would also have a tire dealer I 'trust' have a look at them.

RE: Tire date codes

I almost made same mistake last year. I was looking to switch from Michlins to a more reasonable price tire. dealer had a 'great deal' when I did check the code, turned out they were 3 yrs old, I finally decided on set of Bridgestone, 6 for 40 diesel pusher, the Bridgestones were coded current year.
Good topic to 'remind' us to check before we buy.........

RE: Tire date codes

I agree with the following ,look for the DOT #.
Use a flashlight to find the Department of Transportation code on the tire. The DOT code starts with the letters "DOT" and is followed by 10, 11 or 12 letters or numbers.
2
Record the last four numbers of the DOT code.
3
Read the last two digits of the DOT code. The last two digits are the year of manufacture. If the last two digits are 07, for example, the tire was manufactured in 2007.
The two digits before the year indicate the week of the year that the tires were manufactured. There are 52 weeks in a year, so these two digits range from 01 to 52.

RE: What has happened to family friendly campgrounds?

As a dog owner, I agree with the 'less bark' the better!! I don't want to listen to your dog bark when being encouraged to bark! dogs are dogs and many commuicate by barking, have the kids play with the dog away from the camping area. I also don 't want to listen to screaming kids all day . I know many parents become 'immune' to the noise. I'v seen it in my own family. Camp ediquite should be taught to the kids by the parents, i.e. don't cut thru other campsites, keep voices down, use your Ipod, keep speakers turned down etc.
Seems to me it is hard enough to find a campground in FL where you can even take a dog, I would try to minmize iritating other campers, less they ban dogs completely.

RE: Phoenix to Springfield Oregon

Some scenic routes mentioned. Personally I would go west I-10 to I-210 near Redlands, to I-5 north to Springfield. It may be 30/40 miles further than going LV/Reno/395. I've been down I-5 the last two year and it has improved a great deal over the last few years.
It is direct, MOuntians shouldn't be a problem, but check ahead in N. calif. If you just can't stand driving freeways, take scenic routes mentioned, or go north one way, come back the other.
