RE: What ERS will tow

They said they would not tow the 5th wheel!!! Left the 5th wheel along I 95 for over 3 hrs until someone from a CG about 10 miles away that had a truck with a hitch came and pulled it to the CG. Unless you have alot more trailer to bed rail clearance I do not see how a tow truck could get the front wheels of the tow vehicle off the ground without the trailer getting into the bed rails. Good Sams ERS does advertise they will take your tow vehicle and (Travel trailer), no mention of 5th wheel to a CG if the required service of your tow vehicle will take over several days. Then what is considered several days? The paperwork I got with my policy includes 5er's
Not towing of the 5r, only emergency repairs to the 5r like changing a tire. This what they said when called ! Better check for what coverage you think you have before you need it !

RE: What ERS will tow

So what ERS will tow your 5th wheel to the nearest CG should your tow vehicle break down? Found out the hard way that Coachnet will not when truck broke down on I 95 in SC. They will only tow the truck, not the trailer! Most tow companys have no way to haul a 5th wheel so what are the rest of you doing?
You need to contact Coachnet because yes, they will tow the truck and fifth wheel. I think you might have run into a local contractor for Coachnet who didn't have the equipment to handle your rig.

RE: replacement tires (need help)

(1) - That will depend on your axle configuration.
(2) - The difference in load capacity between the two tires is nearly 400# with the ST having the advantage. Are you willing to give up that much load carrying capacity? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does not recommend such a drastic loss in tire load capacity. You will not find a recommendation from any tire manufacturer to do so.
(3) - It’s not just OK, you’re not going to find them anywhere.
(4) - In my opinion the differences in those two tire sizes would not present a problem for short distance emergency travel. However, Each axel should always have the same size tires and design for normal travel.
Not true on the less capacity with LT tires! LT's have a 20 percent reserve capacity so 3040lbs plus 20 percent were as the ST tire load capacity includes the reserve capacity in there load rating.

RE: KOA Rates

Stopped staying at KOAs a few years ago, price to high, they want to charge anyone that stops to visit and charge extra per pet per night. At what they charge I can stay in a motel.

RE: Trailer Life Directory usless

It failed us twice last year to and from Florida. Going down on a Sunday we pick a CG and started calling a couple of hours out and got no answer but what the heck it's Sunday. When arrived there was a open double gate and a stop sign. So we sat at the stop sign waiting, could see trailers inside and after awhile started to pull in, heard a beep and saw the gates starting to close on my truck. Slammed reverse and luckily got backed out with no damage and left.
On the way home trying to find a CG open in Ohio end of March we saw one listed as open all year so exited the interstate, drove several mile to CG only to find it was not a CG at all. It was a mobile home park!!

RE: Exotics loose in Ohio

I have to admit - the first thing that ran through my mind when I heard the first news report was: if I lived in that area, where they were telling people to STAY INSIDE - so what do you do when your dog is telling you it needs to go outside?? My dogs are smart - but would not comprehend "a lion will eat you if you go outside"....LOL!!
On a serious note - thank God no people were harmed - and hopefully this incident will result in stiffer laws regarding WHO is allowed to own an exotic animal.
We live within 1 3/4 miles of this nut and his animal farm and as far as letting the dogs out, no problem had the wife go out with them!

RE: Installing a new sewer hose storage tube.

I used 6"x 96" schedule '20' pvc pipe, made u-bolts from 1/4" all thread and drilled through the frame flange of the I beam. Has plenty of room to carry serwer hose and fittings attached inside the 6" and schedule 20 is a lot lighter than the Sch 40.

RE: heartland

We had a 08 Sundance 3300SK for a couple of years and was a very good mid height 5th wheel. Had very few problems but sold and bought a Montana for the extra height in the bed room. Heartland factory was very good to work with on the few minor problems we had.

RE: Mileage

From Ohio to Florida with my Dodge 6.7 ctd I get my best mileage 11 1/2 with a 14k 5vr from Geogia on to Florida and 10 1/2 form Ohio to Georgia however coming back to home 10 1/2 until we start back into the hills/mountains then back to 11 1/2 ? Happens every year makes no sense.

RE: Purchasing Tire Air Compressor???

Get a CO2 bottle. Cheaper, quicker, lighter. Carry it in your truck box, not in the trailer.
Still need a air source for the CO2 tank !

RE: Trailer E-brake

I was planning on wiring a toggle switch in line to my brake controller to use it as a emergency brake for my trailer and open deck trailer for when loading and unloading. Has anyone done this or something like this?? or any suggestions as to the best way to go about it?
ThanksElectric trailer brakes do not work unless the trailer is moving forward. They will not hold your trailer still while loading and unloading.
You need chocks for that.
WHAT ?? If I engage my brakes, does not matter if trailer is moving or not they are engaged. Try pulling your breakaway pin and see if it will move. Never heard of must be moving to engage the brakes.

RE: Purchasing Tire Air Compressor???

Also use a Black and Decker 12/120 and as traveln circus says is slow but gets the job done. Also carry a Husky hot dog 110 psi 120volt compressor that is alot quicker and good for blowing out the water lines.

RE: Blocks under front legs of FW

I have seen were a person has a large number of blocks under the front landing gear. As they backed the truck to hooked up they knocked the landing gear off the blocks dropping the trailer on the bed rails. I do put one "lego" block under each, for me it is easier to clean the lego blocks then the landing gear/stabilizer pads. On the back stabilizer I may put more as the higher the stabilizer the more stable the trailer is.
Glad someone finally said this, see them all the time blocked up high and like you said have seen a few knocked off when hooking or unhooking and not pretty for the truck.
