RE: Horst tank sensors....

That's very interesting Dave. We have an 06 PW Excel. Of course, the black water tank gages only work for a short time after washing out the tank with a spray wand. Nevertheless, we have been traveling 6 seasons in our van and never had a problem. We dump about every 3 days when traveling and it seems to work out OK. Thanks for your input.

RE: Insurance

When we switched from Allstae to The Hartford thru AARP we saved a lot of money, a lot.

RE: Where do you sanitize your tanks?

You can buy a wand that attaches to a garden hose to wash out the black water tank, it doesn't need to be sanitized. We wash it once or twice a year. IMHO you don't have to do anything at all to the grey water tank. When we first started RVing we used to sanitize the fresh water tank with bleach according to the Pleasure Way instructions but no longer do so. We drink bottled water. If you need a small amount of water for brushing your teeth, etc. you can use water that has been thru the hot water heater. This works for us.

RE: Class B bedding

Another vote from us for Travasaks. When it is very hot, we unroll the Travasaks and use a sheet on top. We sleep better in our Pleasure Way than at home. The memory foam mattress is very good.

RE: What Spare Parts / Consumeables Should I Carry

We also carry a couple of boards for that purpose but the fact of the matter is I will call roadside assistance if I get a flat.

RE: What Spare Parts / Consumeables Should I Carry

There are many good packing lists on the internet, we developed our own starting from there. In 6 seasons of RVing all over the US and Canada in a PW Excel, we have never had a breakdown (knock on wood!). We did have to replace a tire and got a tank of bad gas that made the check engine light come on and I called Ford about it. It went out after that tank was used up. That said, we do carry motor oil, a can of fix a flat, 120v and 12v compressors, basic tools, fuses, duct tape, wire, etc. I recommend you carry roadside assistance just for the peace of mind. With a Class B, our rule of thumb is to keep it simple, we want to enjoy our travels and not spend a lot of time messing with the RV. IMHO, you made a good decision buying your Roadtrek and will have a great time with it. Good luck in your travels.

RE: Front End Problems

A sales representative from Pleasure Way at the Houston RV show told me that Ford got some off spec steering boxes from their supplier a few years ago. I have a 2006 PW Excel and solved our problem with spacers, re-alignment to new specs I got from PW and Michelin XPS Rib tires. Hope you can solve your problem without spending too much!

RE: Portable Air Compressor

We carry a Craftsman 120 V portable compressor in our PW Excel that works perfectly when you are plugged in. Easily pumps the tires to 80 psi required and has an inflator connection on the hose. We also carry a cheap 12 v compressor for emergencies or when we camp unplugged. You will need an extension to reach the air bag fittings on the bumper.

RE: Which Class B should we purchase?

Our 2006 PW Excel has outstanding quality and reliability. The Ford van with a V-8 engine has been flawless and we have had it in an RV shop only once to fix the AC. Good luck.

Refrigerator service

We have used our PW Excel for 6 seasons of traveling, 49K miles overall. We have the small Dometic 3 way fridge that we run on DC when on the highway, AC when plugged in and gas when unplugged. Counting all the time we have spent on our trips it has been used for over one year total. It has always performed flawlessy. Although the owners manual says to have it serviced every year, we have nver done it. Should we have the service work done? Any opinions or experience with this? I will appreciate any feedback.

RE: New tires for 2003 Pleasure Way

I put Michelin XPS rib Light Truck tires on my 2006 PW Excel (on a Ford chassis) and have been amazed at the improved handling.

Various

We went to the Houston RV show last Saturday, After looking at everything from Class A's to the new Class B models, we decided we are happy with our 2006 PW Excel. I got it inspected today and paid $150 to have it waxed at a car wash. I have waxed it twice before with liquid wax, using a Wal Mart machine for applying liquid Turtle Wax but I think my money was well spent today! They did a good job.

RE: 2006 Pleasure Way Excel Td

We have a 2006 PW Excel TD. Tank capacities are - Fresh 24 gal, Gray 16 Gal and Black 10 Gal. I have never had to replace a fuse in 6 seasons of travel but do carry a puller and spares. You also need the owner's manual to see which circuits are on each breaker in the panel. I suggest you pull the anode from the hot water heater, replace if necessary and flush the tank with back pressure from the fresh water system. You need a 1 -1/16" socket to pull the anode but a 1 1/8" socket will work. I would also remove the house battery and clean the compartment because it gets corroded with time. This RV is very well built and has been practically trouble free for us, that goes for both the PW conversion as well as the Ford van. The only issue with these rigs is driveability. There are many posts on this subject you can refer to that relate to handling on the highway and how to deal with it. Good luck.

RE: Roadtrek/Pleasureway etc. Pricing

RT's and PW's are very well designed and built. It does take a lot of effort to put in all the conveniences of an RV into such a small package. All said and done, there is a tremendous upside to the compact size of a Class B when traveling around the country. A Porsche costs more than a Chevy Suburban, too, so a size comparison is irrelevant.

RE: New ownwer of a PW excel TS in needof info

We have never used the air bags to level up. Some vans have an on-board compressor, we don't. So to use the air bags I would have to hook up my portable compressor or, alternatively, let air out of one bag or the other. In that case, we would have to re-inflate anyway when we hit the road again. I don't miss the on-line compressor at all. We are in our 6th season of traveling and the refrigerator sill works fine, I understand that it is the only critical issue when levelling up.
