RE: Our new project coach

Are you going to be traveling with the same two clients or different ones from time to time? I am sure your clients are very appreciative of what you are doing for them. It should be very rewarding for you.

RE: Sealent Tape, Which to Use - Putty, Butyl or PVC

Do you have a brand and part number for the PVC tape. It probably is a double sided tape meant for things like molding and trim. The butyl is the best for your application.

RE: Sealent Tape, Which to Use - Putty, Butyl or PVC

I believe that butyl is a lot better than the putty in the long run. I don't know what you mean by PVC. Silicon would be another option, but once you put it on, it is almost impossible to use something else over it including silicon.

RE: Thinking of crossing to the dark side

More and more Winnebago's are coming of age where the adhesive that bonds the fiberglass edge of the roof to the J rail, is starting to fail and they fiberglass is starting to pop out of the J rail. If this happens while the motorcoach is in motion at 55 MPH a piece could fly off and cause possible injury or death to someone following. You might want to do some research to find a factory looking fix for this and see if there is a way to prevent it. I talked with Rod from Winnebago Customer Relations and he said they are aware of it and the Sealant seems to only hold up about 10 years. This just happened to my 99 Chieftain. They say it is the owners responsibility to inspect the sealant on the J Rail about every 6 months. There was not a sealant installed from the factory and a sealant is not an adhesive. You can not inspect the Adhesive as it is under the fiberglass. I thought I should make you aware so you can get an action plan for a sufficiant repair if you have not already done so. Alot of forums show that this is happening quite often. The sad thing to hear, was when Rod said they still use the same process today on the 2012's so in 10 years they will also have a factory defect that Winnebago will not take care of. They do not consider this part of the roof.
This is a maintenance item on Winnebagos. You are supposed to inspect it every 6 months and re-caulk if you can separate the fiberglass in the J channel. If kept up there is nothing to worry about. If you don't pieces do indeed fly off.

RE: 1999 Damon Challenger

With the mileage and the things recently done to it, it seems like a good deal. The ABS light could be a very minor issue, loose or dirty sensor connection. I have a 1999 Winnebago Brave 35C that I was thinking of selling and that was what I was looking at getting. I have since decided to keep it as a second motor home specifically for our handicapped son. It is all handicap equipped and is worth it for occasional trips with him.

RE: Battery question...

Doesn't make sense. Shore power shouldn't be charging chassis battery. i would check the battery connections and the ground connection to the frame from the chassis battery. Might be loose or corroded connections.

RE: Battery question...

I am afraid that your chassis battery is bad. The dealer should cover the cost of the replacement or perhaps the chassis warranty.

If you truly want to see the Badlands, drive up US-85 to Medora, ND and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. If you are returning to Rochester you can do it on I-94 and I-35.

RE: Future Battery compartment

I have a 2011 Vista 26P. I removed my chasis battery and put it up front in the engine compartment, offset in front of the radiator. Had to weld on some 2" steel supports to hold the battery in a battery box. I now have three 12V coach batteries under the step. When they go bad I am going to pull those 3 batteries and see if I can slip in four 6V ones with some modifications. I have also added 400 Watts of solar on the roof.
I have been looking at doing it this way myself. My tray under the steps lacked 1/4" of working. Next summer I will modify the existing tray and probably move the chassis battery forward.
