RE: Breakdown - how would you handle it

Falling oil pressure....pull over immediately and, like a previous poster said, call your (hopefully you have one) road service, like CoachNet. Otherwise, the motor will completly fail to the point of replacement. BIG $$$$$$$ Overheating is not quite as severe...but even then, pull over and YOU can do easy checking...like check the radiator...the hoses...maybe do enough light fixing to get you to a repair shop. If you can't find the problem...it might be the water pump...in which case you MIGHT be able to fill the radiator with water, leave the cap only PARCIALLY on (lessens the presure) and take it to the nearest shop...if you can. Otherwise..play it safe. call your road service for a tow...and good luck.

RE: Satellite Fee's from Direct TV, city to city free

We have DirecTV in our house. When snowbirding, say, in Arizona, we take one of our (2) boxes....and I set up our dish/tripod/strength/compass...aiming sometimes takes 2 minits...sometimes 5... Of ocurse I don't get the "local" networks. But I DO get all the DirecTV stations (CNN, Discovery, FoxNews, etc., etc., etc.) Running everything thru a switchbox, I get the local networks (NBC,ABC,CBS, etc) by simply putting up the antenna, turning it on, pusing the "ANT" button n the switchbox, aiming that in all in all takes about a minite and...there they are! To get back to DirecTV, simply push the "SAT" button on the switchbox. No extra fee...simply pay the bill as it comes in. Tell'em nothing, they don't really care, pay the bill.

RE: goodyear tires

From this and other forums about the GY 670s....I think this "rivering" thing might be just for ther 22.5 inch tires. For whatever reason. My 3 sets of GY 19.5 were (and are) just fine. I'd estimate that 90% of the information here is personal experience (like mine)....the other 10% could be jumping on the GY flaming bandwagon. For whatever reason. Who knows?

RE: dead house batteries

Why don't you just plug the motorhome into "shore power"? The house? The campground? No matter if you're 50 or 30 amp, you buy an adaptor (maybe 2) to step down to 110...household plug. Extention cord...and hook it up for a day or so. No "real" reason to use all that gasoline just for that. If you're out in the boonies....no choice. You gotta start the motor and let the batteries charge up from there. Takes a long time....and gas...just idling....however...if you're on the road, they will charge while driving (of course).

RE: goodyear tires

If you're getting your negative info (flaming) here on the forum, take it with a grain of salt. No matter what brand of ANYTHING....posters here will slam it. I've had Goodyears since day 1....and except for a blowout in Texas some years ago (ran over something)....nary a problem. Good luck with your choice!

RE: Generator fuel line from gastank

OKOKOK...did the job this morning. After that aformentioned running without a problem, the PROBLEM started all over again. So, I do figure it's a cracked fuel line. One shop gave me a price of $1000. Got outta there as fast as I could. Two other shops....5-600. But....could I do it myself? Got a friend to c'mon over, and this morning, in UNDER 1 1/2 hours...had the fuel line replaced and genny running. We were prepared to lower the tank. We were prepared to drop the tank. We did neither. We found we could get to the pump and the fitting from the "passenger" SIDE. I had a 24inch flat-blade screwdriver. Combined with my full arm length, popped the fitting (hose) off. Yep...there was the crack. Not more than, say 1/4-5/16 inches in length. Removed the "fitting" from the old hose, clamped it on to the new hose, Hooked it back up to the pipe on the pump, measured, put a protective "loom" over the entire length of new hose and within minits, had it hooked up and genny running. I REALLY got LUCKY! The hose, bought at my local auto parts...1/4 inch...the sales guy said it was a "ethanol resistant" hose. But...it took 11+ years to get this far....most likely won't happen (to me) again. Thanks for all the responses.

RE: How long do the radiator hoses last on a V10 F53?

HAPPY-2: Seeing you don't take PMs...can you tell me what radiator hose Ford is no longer making? Upper, lower, cross-over? Altho I think Ford makes the best (fitment) hoses and belts, I wonder if your shop could have ordered an "afermarket" product, from , say, NAPA, rather than make one. Courious.

RE: How long do the radiator hoses last on a V10 F53?

11 years and 19,000 miles? Mine is also 11 years, with 50 thou. At 30, I replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses, and the serpentine belt. And while I was there...the anti-freeze, too. As I remember, the upper hose is almost "generic". The lower hose...$164. Looks like an octotpus...I was informed that I really should get a lower hose from Ford because the "aftermarket" products "just don't fit right". Ok by me. Also the belt. From Ford. Same reason. The anti freeze already in there was "green" (in color), so green anti-freeze went back in. No biggie there. I suggest you have a friend help you. (gotta blame somebody...) After the "dog house" is off, one of you underneath...especially with the belt. Everything is really the same as a car...but bigger. How are your tires? If original...get 'em changed! (BIG $$$$ there.....) Of course, change the oil and grease the chassis. (How's the transmission fluid? Brake fluid?) Also...change the in-line fuel filter. Cheap...and necessary. My owners' manual states the spark plugs are good for 100,000. So no worries, there.

RE: Day Night Shades

When my mh was new, within the first year, all the strings on all 4 blinds broke. Dealer fixed, no problem. When I inquired about having this done after the warranty, I was told: 1 hour labor. That = 100 bucks. OUCH! So...removed the day/nites (for measurements) and off to "Blinds To Go" and had the day/nite shades replaced by plastic mini-blinds....$130. Bit of a hassle getting to some of the mounting blocks (really tight spacing), but in the end....no further problems. The mini-blinds fit perfectly, and was able to use the lower anchors from the day/nite shades.

RE: It's always something...now it's the generator

Research the subject here on the forum. I started a thread some time ago...my fuel line to the genny was dry....but getting some gas in a gas can and hooking that up to the genny....it started and ran just fine. So the generator fuel pump works... So...a "crack" in the line is the most common thing...This coming Saturday I'm getting the fuel tank down. Bought new gas line and protective "looms", plus some new hose clamps. My HOPE is that I can just lower the tank some inches and get at the fitting to replace the hose. If not...the tank comes down. Now...the fuel pump: Change or not to change?******shoot. My motorhome is 11 years old, 49 thou on the odometer. NEVER had a fuel pump fail in any of my vehicles since EFI came in. However....should I put a new one in? Will the new one fail (soon)? Will the old one last "forever"....? Y'never know until it's too late. My plan...just lowering the tank and replace the hose...no new fuel pump. If I have to drop the tank....I'll have to decide then and there. Oh, yeah....2 things: run the gas until the gauge shows 1/4 tank or less. Pro mechanics tell me NOT to go with "aftermarket" fuel pumps...stick with Ford. (Or GM) Decisions, decisions

RE: campgrounds

I've gone coast to coast, but never the "northern" route. Due to work considerations, so far, only able to get the winter off...and I have absolutly no desire to drive my RV in snow, ice...and below freezing temps. However....on the "southern" routes (I-40,I-20,I-10) I have suggestions: First, join KOA. 10% off each nite plus "points" for discounts. At least the KOAs really have the southern routes "covered". One can almost travel I-10 or I-20 from KOA to KOA day by day while driving cross country. Then...get "Trailer Life Directory". Usually good info on campgrounds as you travel. We've had some issues with the "ratings"....wrote them about our OPINIONS...but they never responded....oh, well. But, for the most part, they do a reasonable job. Enjoy your trip!

RE: Florida Snow birding cost

My experiences with $$ snowbirding: Military RV areas excluded....a "snowbird" resort in Florida is around 900 bucks a month. Plus electricity....only a few bucks...so don't worry about that. A "snowbird" resort, in say, the Phoenix area of Arizona...400-500 bucks a month, also plus electricity. However...the gas (diesel) usage difference, just might make the RV prices ...maybe evens out. Drive to Florida....2000 miles more or less, round trip. Drive to Phoenix, 5000 miles round trip, more or less. Personally, I like Arizona better. But at 4 bucks a gallon.....who knows? Figure 5-8 grand for any 3-4 month snowbird trip. It ain't cheap...the normal bills keep coming in...

RE: EZ pass questions

NJ EZPass costs $1/month...use it or not. I had to have a special "code" to enable my motorhome AND my pickup truck to tow anything. Confusing on the website, I called their number. 1-973-368-1656...guy named Bertram Nipper (if he's still there). He was able to do everything for me over the phone....and great service. Any account gives you up to 4 transponders. Velcro to the windshield. When towing, you MUST remove the transponder on the toad. Or...you'll get charged double. Give them a CC number and they will charge $25 as needed (automatically). No "commercial" as you are not(?) "commercial". Of course, their "free" number is 1-888-288-6865. EZPass is good from Ilinois to Virginia up to Maine....except for Vermont and Connecticut. Hope this helps...more info, PM me.

RE: POWER GEAR jack hydraulic hoses

I would THINK you can find a hydraulic hose shop...they MIGHT be able to duplicate what you have for a much more reasonable price....and you may be able to do the replacement job yourself. Ask around....good luck and let us know what you find.

RE: Still trying to buy newish RV tires

I had my tires. (6)...bought and installed...by my "local" Camping World store. I asked for and saw the date of manufacture....2 months old. Price was comparable to other local stores....Goodyear, for instance. Local Goodyear store was $4 more per tire, but only 3 miles from my house. They were more than willing to do the tires, but wanted noting to do with the shock absorbers that I needed. CW (40 miles from my house) had and did it all. No problems. Tires, BTW, were Goodyear, 19.5.
