RE: 1996 F53 460 water pump change

I also changed the w/p on a 94 f53. did it from inside laying on top of the motor with a big mirror laying against the inside of the radiator. Also those have a fluid to fluid oil cooler with a small hose that is next to impossible to change. It's located down where the oil filter is. So if you see that small 90 degree hose now you what its for.

RE: f-53 brake overheat

Had the same issue with my old 95 f53 and had to replace the rotor on the RR. Did all the calipers and hoses ,I believe it was at about 72000 miles. Also Ford sells a speical grease just for there caliper slides. When you go to remove the wheels one side has right hand threads and the other has left hand threads. I think if you look close at the end of the stud they might be marked.

RE: Wheel Bearings for W22 Chassis

The rear end gear oil lubes the axle bearings thats why the level should be up to the fill plug. The front bearings are also in an oil bath. If you remove the wheel cover you should see a clear plastic hub cover and it should have oil up to the level indicator on the cover. Hope this helps.

A insulated Army helmet liner. Not the helmet just the liner. Also have a bellows for the campfire.

RE: County names

I see some take this lightly but last year we were on the road traveling thru Va. NC SC on the way to Disney when those deadly storms were everywhere and the weather alert on the cb was going off and I'm telling you there were some very scarey moments when you have no idea what county your in and thats the only way they identify the area of the warning!

RE: RV Repair Rip Off Artists?

There's also some really great people out there also. Was out at the week long Moab UT easter jeep safari and on the last day I broke the right front spring hanger on the jeep. I took the winch cable and wrapped around the frame and spring and tighten it up so I could drive off the trail and back to the campground. It was late in the day so I figured I get a new next day. Well since the event was over everyone that had been open 24/7 was closed up tight. The thought of towing the jeep 2511 miles like that was not good. Went to the convience store I was getiing my gas at and explained my problem, he gets on the phone ,a few mins later a girl shows up and he says he'll be wright back. Then he shows up with a truck with a welder on the back. We take off the hanger he welds it , put back on. I was extremely grateful, asked how much for the job? His answer " nothing just have a safe trip back to Ma." I sent my son across the street and got him a $50 gift card for steak house.

RE: Open new campground

One thing that would be nice is a spot where folks that just need a safe secure place to spend the night only ,could stay at a reduced rate.

RE: How far will you travel when fuel hits...

We're taking our grandson to see Mickey and friends last week in april and thats not going to change. BUT we'll be using Camp Walmart for the first time ever in my 34 yrs of motorhoming, for the overnights on the way down and back and that should make up for alot of the added fuel expense. The KOA's are just alittle to pricey for an overnight and on the road by 7 stay.

RE: Disney Fort Wilderness

We've stayed at the Fort many times with our last 2 MH's and found that if you have a Toad the premiem sites are the best. We brought our Commander last May and had site 1116 and it had plenty of room. Just made reservations for this coming May and requested 100 loop which we've had before with this same 35 ft MH. As far as backing into the site , as long as the guy across from your site keeps his golf cart and vehicle ON HIS SITE and not on the road it's not an issue. In case your wondering, yes we did have that problem the last time we had a loop 100 site.

RE: Awning saver (clamp)

Went to Ace Hardware bought a 5ft length of non threaded 1/4 rod put a 90 degree bend about a ft down , wrapped the long section in duck tape to prevent scaping , stick the short end in the awning slot and velcro strap to the awning arm .Total investment $7 as I already had the duck tape.

RE: 1st mechanical issue -

I think if it's a u-joint on the drive shaft when let off the gas the vibration should go away or be much less and when accelerating you should really feel it. But thats on a car with only 2 u-joints might not be the same on a MH that has at least twice as many. Just thought of something else to check, they have a center bearing for the drive shaft that may be going south. Good luck and lets us know what you find.

RE: Chevy 8.1L coolant level going down

The first place to check is on the drivers side cylinder head I think it's between #3 and #5 there is a plug in the head that WH forgot to tighten. Pretty easy to get to, just need a ratchet with an extention, it weeps and then when the motor gets hot it evaporates. I got 2 full turns on mine. Hope this helps.

Sounds like it needs a new thermo couple, or possibly a new pilot assembly as they may be intergrated.

RE: Dropping fuel tank

On last coach on a 94 F53 chassis had a leak and it turned out to be the fuel filler hose. If your going to drop the tank be carefull of that hose as it's really close to the frame. Maybe even consider replacing that as well.
