RE: King size bed?

A king bed was one of the 'must haves' when shopping for our current coach. Our Damon has a full size king memory foam mattress. And a tv in the living room, not over the driver's head.

RE: Keeping Your Books In Your RV

You guys do know there are many public libraries with massive e-book collecitons? Philidelphia Free Library is one of the largest and open to all US citizens. Many local municipalities have large e-book collections as well, I know Harris County Texas does. And with Calibre, they all work fine on a Kindle.

RE: Led Lights

For most applications, replacing incandesent lamps with LED is a significant power savings. The same cannot be said for flouresent. The latest LED technology is a BIT better than flouresent but not by much so mostly don't bother with the LED conversion for flouresent fixtures. In fact, we changed all our lamps to LED except the over counter fixture in the kitchen where we installed a dual tube 18" flouresent warm white. Lots of light in the food prep and dishwashing area when needed. The newer warm white LEDs really are a great replacement option and save a great deal of power.

RE: New motorhomes and no oven

I was told by a salesman that the Ovens on the units with both the convection microwave and oven also models come back on trade ins virtually unused ( the Gas oven). Most part timers and many full timers have no interest in using it. So i guess if you really use it your special .. in the minority that is. ;-) Yes, its definatly the minority that actually COOK food in the motorhome vs just warming prepared foods. We COOK in ours and would not own one without a real oven. If you feel the same, make sure the unit you choose has one or can be upgraded to include one. The miniture electric convection feature built in to the microwave is not a substitute for a real oven. Now, if Atwood would consider offering an LP range with a convection fan in the oven...I would be in line to buy one as an upgrade. Alas, no market as so few folks actually do any real cooking in the motorhome. Seems its even worse on high end coaches that seem to include electric cooktops. Useless.

Dometic HP replacement for Carrier remote control type

I have a Carrier roof mounted AC unit that has a failed evap coil. Need to replace the unit and Carrier no longer sells these. Would like to upgrade to a 15k HP while doing this. What Dometic or Coleman units and controls arrangement would work best? There is no thermostat on the wall or wiring for one, its all in the roof mounted unit and a hand held remote control. Are some of the HP units usable down to about 20degF now? Thanks,

RE: For future internet service on the road, MAYBE

The problem with ALL of the Verizon LTE solutions is the cost of the data, not data accesss. $50 a month for 10GB then $10/GB is crazy. $50 for one movie worth of data? Out of touch with where the internet is going. I suppose if you want to pay $50 a month JUST for email and a few non-multimedia web sites, its better than no internet. I does not need to be unlimited, just limited to a more reasonable amount for a true broadband service. Say 150GB or so like ATT or comcrap would be a reasonable starting point for this service if they don't want to offer unlimited service. 10GB is NOT broadband service.

RE: Power in gas engine larger Class A motorhomes

BTW a diesel motor in a 39' MH will deliver at least 30% better fuel mileage than the same size 39' with a V-10. once again not putting down the V-10 it is right sized for the smaller class A's. This simply is not true for current diesel and gas offerings. 10% maybe. Then again the fuel is 10 to 15% more expensive so its a wash on fuel cost. 39ft with a trailer is at the limits of what available gas engines can do. Diesels handle that and larger with ease. Smaller than that and the advantage goes further and further to the gas side. Its in that range where other factors like preference and cost vs percieved benifit are a bit more fuzzy. Since when did we RV for cost savings?

RE: 2012 Ford Edge

The Edge will require a braking system to tow safely. To power the braking system will require a charge line from the MH in the connection cable. Placing the vehicle in the accessory position keeps the security system from arming. All accessory power is shut down by the vehicle after 20 minutes, but leaving the security system unarmed. We have been towing our 2011 MKT with the pushbutton start for over a year with no diffeculty. The hitch, wiring and braking system were all very easy. The wiring will require a charge line. Many vehicles do and all that are heavy enough to need brakes.

RE: Be aware of RV Service

You know what? Based on the story from the OP, the repair house was stealing and I would have no problem putting a stop-payment on a check in response to them. That makes it THEIR problem to get MY money and IMO, that's the way it should be. Nope, it just makes it your problem to deal with the fines and possible jail time for theft of serivce and writing bad checks. Does not matter what led up to it. Stopping payment on a check is a crime and dealt with as such. Disputing a credit card charge is very different. The CC company effectivly becomes a mediator to resolve the dispute. NEVER use a check if there is any doubt of the transaction or the party you are giving your banking information to. Paper checks are an outdated and very risky way to conduct business.

RE: Ford Edge 2011 is NOT flat towable

Simple and cheap toad battery chargers that operate on 12v are available for just this function. The braking system requires power and it has to come from somewhere. Vally Towing has one for less than $25 that works just fine. The 2011 Edge most assuredly IS flat towable and is supported for such use by its manufacturer. One of the few remaining vehicles that is.

RE: Ford Transmission Fluid

If your Escape is under factory warranty or Ford ESP they will cover towing related failure. They have paid for a few of the Remco pumps but its not policy. Failure after the warranty is to the owners account.

RE: QX56 Toad

We tow our Lincoln MKT. Its rated for 4 down towing from Ford and just squeeks in under the 5000lb tow limit for our coach. Its also a great driving CUV when we arrive. Most of Ford/Lincoln's mid size and full size line of FWD and AWD cars and utility vehicles are towable.

RE: Radio Replacement in Ford F-53 Dash

First, the F53 motorhome chassis does not have a dash. Nor a radio or even a place to put one. The motorhome coach builder supplies that. So let folks know what you have and you might get better help. Asking the question you did shows you really don't know much about the unit and hence the suggetion to lift the dash or access the rear of the raido via an access panel. And for the record, my Damon, on and F53 chassis has a removable panel on the top rear of the dash for access to the radio and other items from the rear for service. As do almost all other Thor designed coaches of the last few years.

RE: GM Dingy Caution

Ford has quite a few models that tow 4 down. We love our Lincoln MKT ecoboost AWD. Tows great and a great drive once we arrive.

RE: Heat

I like the IDEA of the cheap heat add on for the furnace, but like the Edenpure heaters, its overpriced by about a factor of 5. If a kit was sold for installation at about $350 I think they would sell lots of them just for the convienience factor. At $1600 its just lining the 'inventor's pocket. Truly I am surprised Atwood or Surburban have not come out with a model that incorporates the feature. Would likely only be a couple bills more than the same unit in gas only.

RE: Question about HDTV

If you want to send HD material to the rear tv without running new cables, suggest looking at a wireless HD transmitter/reciever such as this: http://www.amazon.com/brite-View-HDelight-BV-1222-Uncompressed-1080p/dp/B00435EXNI/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1322769740&sr=8-12 I have one in the house for a tv that would be impossible to bring new cables to. Approx 35 ft from the transmitter and it works perfectly. 1080p capable wireless transmission. Amazing but it works.

RE: Drivers license requirement State of Nevada

What are the other 2?Vehicle registration, including inspection requirements and insurance requirements. A few states have created local reciprocity acts with bordering states, but those are very few and far between. All other vehicle laws are state specific and you are required to meet them unless exempted by that states laws. This is NOT TRUE for non-commercial vehicles. Your DL, registration and insurance that are valid for your vehicle in your home state are valid for use on that vehicle in all 49 other states. You only have to meet your HOME state's laws. All this goes out the window if your registration and driver's licence do not match your home state.Don't know what your beef is, BUT that is exactly what I said. You quote a PORTION of my post and then say I am wrong.....:S My beef is that I no longer read and comprehend well I suppose :-) I stand corrected, you were saying the same thing. Sorry.

RE: Shurflo Extreme 5.7

Yep, we had 3 fail for us too. Paid for two of them. Finally replaced with a regular one and a volume bottle. Works just fine. The electronic controllers were very poorly designed and failed frequently. Too bad too, as the design was a good idea.
