RE: AutoMate back in business

One of the best things about being an Auotmate owner is watching this forum & the complaints about Lippert frames & saying thank goodness...

RE: AutoMate back in business

For those that may be interested in Automates...It's RV club is a good source of info, goings on & sometimes a great source of used coaches...it has to be the toughest lil RV club out there..they have really stuggled to keep it going all these years... Automate RV Club

RE: AutoMate back in business

I for one hope he succeeds as the failure of Automate was discussed by owners who knew him, as hitting hard for him personally. I even read somewhere he had contemplated suicide as he believed he'd failed his employees and loyal customer base. One thing that seems different is Gina Wyrick...use to be able to talk to Bill fairly easy...now it seems Gina may be the voice of Automate. You know as well as I do, Bruce...there are very few in the RV industry more innovative than Bill Wyrick...can't wait to see a 2012 5th wheel.

RE: $15 LED reading light

If you are willing do a little canniablizing...you can pretty much get two 7 watt landscape lights @ Lowes or H. Depot for the price of the E-bay light...

RE: AutoMate back in business

In my opinion...One of the best moves Bill Wyrick could do is pick one dealer here on the east coast known for their exceptional ism (grounds in itself for a debate) & provide a couple of models of the Automate to experience in person...right off I-95 maybe North or South Carolina. Bring East Coast RV'ers into the mix...would really expose Automate RV to a market they have never really been a player in... The second boldest move for Automate to assure exposure, & thus success, is to move the factory to middle America...& if it where me...I'd put it right across the street from New Horizons in Junction City, Kansas...& hopefully draw on their employee's & x-employee's...both companies would benefit by RV'er having the chance to kill two birds with one stone...as neither has a dealer network.

RE: AutoMate back in business

With an 18 wheeler's trailer in mind...wouldn't the travel trailer pull much better (less sway) the further the axles are set back?

RE: AutoMate back in business

They were so custom...they had "This coach was custom made for....." right by the door not a plaque but a decal... My AutoMate is on my profile & has the air hitch there for the lookin'...

AutoMate back in business

...which is good news for RVer's who enjoy substance over fluff... AutoMate is only producing a travel trailer right now but 5th wheels are suppose to follow...couldn't be better timing with Carriage going belly up... Website up & @ automate.com...wouldn't hurt to send Bill & Gena Wyrick a virtual pat on the back...being as they are the small business we all hear talk of these days...

RE: Wood floor

I only had to cut down beside the refrigerator cabinet...used a regular carpet knife....beware of cheap Chinese blades out there...horrible...wouldn't cut hot butter...tucked the carpet under the cabinet with a putty knife... pay for the blades...skimp on the knife...

RE: Wood floor

@Buck... My Automate had the 1/4 Bruce hardwood flooring in the kitchen area...& being as I couldn't match it...& as you know from the other thread...I replaced it & the dining area carpet w/laminate... The hardwood was completely glued down w/ something resembling contact (or a rubber) cement & then had nails thru the tongue every inch or so...w/alot of nails much closer together...spent almost two days just pulling nails...so it must be a big deal to keep that hardwood flat to the surface where it doesn't move, but obviously can be done...as all AutoMates came with real hardwood flooring unless you wanted vinyl or tile in the kitchen area. Hope this helps...

RE: Replacing wall paper

Nooo...my gracious...don't use the 3M spray glue for wall paper...did my coach...well, it's almost done...used the spray glue (3m77) for some small border pieces & the glue started giving up within 2 months...use wall paper glue for your wall papering...I used the box store pre-made paste..I'd stay away from Wal-Marts stuff.

RE: Laminate Flooring

I used Swift Lock Plus & it was a high gloss(plus part) natural oak from Lowes...& is 7mm in thickness. As far as transition of the slide onto the the flooring...I just cut small pieces of the laminate & put them under the top edge of the ramp the slide out rollers use to "climb" to floor level when they come in...wanted to make sure the rollers were truly @ floor level before rolling across the kitchen floor...that said...I own an AutoMate 5th wheel...& they were know for doing things a little different...& this is what worked for me...but no Buc...no interference in my install w/7mm & I think the rollers would handle an 1/8 inch difference between ramp & floor if, let's say, you couldn't get to the top of the ramps to modify them....long winded way of saying 8mm would just fine to use also. And by the way...AutoMate is back in business...only building one travel trailer right now...But they say 5th wheels are in the plans soon..& highly custom at that...FYI..

RE: Laminate Flooring

The quickest way to describe the install, where the slide flooring meets the kitchen flooring, is like putting two fingers pointing at each other with the finger nails barely touching. The slide out laminate's leading edge received a 45 degree cut in one direction & the kitchen floors edge received a 45 degree cut in the other direction, again...just like how your fingers fall away from each other...& what your looking at is just the top edges(like the finger nails) almost touching...the gap is too small to see...it took hours to assure same outcome every time the slide stops in position...but the final look was certainly worth it... ...Merry Christmas...

RE: $15 LED reading light

Clicky I usually wait till they go on sale...as they run $10-15 dollars less... The Lowe's equivalent is 9 watts for %10 less...but if you read some of the reviews on Lowe's site, seems as the manufacturer may be trying to pull as fast one...as in same box, same part number, same price...but now only 3 watts...that said I bought 2 just the other day & both were listed as 9 watts on the box...so may want to pay attention to the watts listed on the outside of the box...

RE: Atwood Four Point Leveling System

Here's a Atwood link: Clicky It clearly shows remotes & no pins to mess with...that said..if your were to retain factory landing gear...then you would continue pulling pins as stated...

RE: Mounting Outdoor TV

Thule also makes a outdoor tv bracket for RV's...a very small (half an egg size) bracket stays on the side & even the bracket has a cover that can be painted if need be...Typical Thule quality if you've ever messed with any of their ski or bike racks...google Thule Smart RV Products...
