How do I find out my towing capacity?

I am trying to sell my Class A gas motorhome. It's a 2008 National Sea Breeze with a Ford Chassis/V10 engine. It's 32 feet long, and a potential buyer asked what the towing capacity is. How exactly do I find that out? Thanks!

Bathroom Vent cover replacement

My vent cover was brittle and it kind of shattered when I accidentally stepped on it while on my roof. I am wondering if I need to cut away the caulking and replace the whole metal frame or if there is a way to simply replace the plastic cover. The cover appears to be rivited to the metal frame, which means probably replacing the whole frame. Here is a picture: http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m295/jbobst/IMAG0027.jpg

RE: Camping locations in Idyllwild California

Thanks for the information so far. My next question was about driving an RV up into that area! You mentioned the grade on route 74, and it looks somewhat daunting for an RV. My uncle is looking to rent my RV, and I didn't realize it, but he wants to stay up in that area for a whole month. Plus, since he is new to RV'ing, I was worring about him driving it up from Palm Springs as that road looks pretty bad to do in an RV.

Camping locations in Idyllwild California

Never been to Idyllwild before, but looking to go RV'ing there in May. Any ideas on where we could camp in a 32' class A motorhome? Hookups would be preferable but not completely necessary. Thanks!

Tire pressure questions

Sorry to post another tire thread. I have not weighed my motorhome, and the best answer to my question is most likely to have it weighed. However, I can't get it weighed right away, so my question is, what is a safe tire pressure to run for the time being until I can get the motorhome weighed? I have a 2008 32' National Sea Breeze motorhome on a Ford chassis (gas). The factory tires are still on the motorhome, and they are Goodyear G670 245/70R 19.5 size tires. I believe they are load range F, but I need to double check that. Right now I have the air pressure set to between 86-88 pounds on each tire. However, I am worried that maybe that is too much air pressure. The other night, I found that one of my inside dually tires was completely flat. I put air into the tire and drove the motorhome back to the storage lot. It has been two days since then, and the tire is still holding air, so I am not sure why it went flat as it is holding air just fine now. I will be taking it to a tire facility on Monday to have them check out the tire, but I wanted to get opinions on what a safe air pressure would be for this motorhome. Thanks

RE: Dry Camp / Fill Freshwater Tank?

I just realized...he is "faking out" his onboard pump and simulating a demand of water by attaching the outdoor shower hose (with garden hose adapter) to the City water connection. So the "demand" for water from the outdoor shower is just being fed back into the tank. That is a good idea! Have to try this method out.

RE: Dry Camp / Fill Freshwater Tank?

It has been a while since I have done this so I hope I get it straight. My Journey has about a 3 foot clear hose attached to the suction side of the pump to use when winterizing. Turn all valves to bypass/winterize. I insert the hose into my 5 gal water jug. On the outside shower hose, I remove the shower head and replace with a half/inch to garden hose adapter. I then connect my water hose to this and the city water inlet. Turn on the shower cold water and start the pump. It only takes a few minutes to empty the 5 gal jug. My Journey does have a gravity fill, but lifting 5 gals of water is more that I want to do. I had to read this twice to figure it out but this is a pretty genious thing to do. This eliminates the need to buy an extra pump. I am interested in what is happening here, but I get confused after he replaces his outdoor shower head with a garden hose adapter. I already replaced my outdoor shower with a garden hose adapter, and I have an anti-freeze inlet that I can attach a garden hose too. I assume what he is doing here is filling the fresh water tank with his onboard pump. The only thing I have been able to do is suck water from my 5 gallon jugs through the antifreeze inlet. This is only when there is a demand for water though. I would like to be able to turn the pump on somehow and have my onboard pump suck the external water into the tank, instead of just having it on demand. Is this what he is doing somehow?

RE: Places to buy Duo-Therm A/C cover?

My motorhome is a National Sea Breeze, so the manufacturer is out of business. I checked ebay, and they didn't have anything for my particular model. The link for the Penguin model isn't the one I have either. My A/C is one of those taller units.

Places to buy Duo-Therm A/C cover?

I have a Duo=Therm 57915-531 A/C unit, and I hit a tree which broke the cover. This is a black cover, and I've done a google search with this model, but I can't find anyone that sells this specific cover. Anyone have recommendations where I can buy this cover in black? Thanks

RE: Need a new A/C shroud - How to tell which kind

I don't think National got around to making an owners manual for this motorhome as it was the last year they made it, but I'll check my documentation. The Duo-Therm pictures I have seen look very similar to my unit. Thanks!

Need a new A/C shroud - How to tell which kind

I drove under a low hanging branch the other day and my rear AC shroud broke. I have a 2008 National Sea Breeze motorhome, and since National is out of business, I was wondering if anyone knew what type of AC unit I have so I can order a replacement shroud? It's a fairly wide and squared off sort of A/C unit, and when I looked at the AC unit on the roof, there were no markings of brand or model. I suppose I have to take the broken shroud off and see if there are any marking on the AC unit itself to find out the model of it. Just hoping someone might know off hand. Both of my AC shrouds are black if that makes any difference. Thanks!

RE: Newmar Mountain Aire Electrical question

Thanks for the information everyone. This is a 2006 Diesel motorhome. Don't remember the chassis and engine make, but it's a 43 foot Mountain Aire. Thanks!

RE: Newmar Mountain Aire Electrical question

rvrepairnut, Regarding the battery boost, isn't the point of the battery boost to use the house batteries if the chassis batteries are dead? I remember on my last Class C motorhome, I installed a battery minder. It was a very low end Class C that didn't even have a 3 stage converter (which I also upgraded). My father in laws Newmar is really a top of the line motorhome, and I am sure the power panel and power/charging systems are far, far better than the battery minder unit. I just don't know how to use the power control panel very well.

RE: Newmar Mountain Aire Electrical question

Thanks OnaQuest. That's good news that both problems are tied to the same thing. I will look up what a solenoid is, but any idea where it might be located?

Newmar Mountain Aire Electrical question

My father in law has a 2006 Newmar Mountain Aire. He doesn't drive it very much lately do to illness, so I have been trying to drive it around every month or so. I haven't taken it out for about two months now, and when I went to start it up, the engine batteries were dead. I just put brand new engine batteries in last August (because the old ones were dead too after not driving it for a couple months), and Napa replaced the batteries free of charge. Now it starts up just fine with the new batteries. However, this motorhome is constantly plugged in to 110v power while in storage, and it appears that the engine batteries are not being charged while in storage. On top of that, I would assume there is some sort of drain being placed on these engine batteries while in storage, as two months shouldn't cause the batteries to die, should it? I put a volt meter on the battery wires yesterday when I had the batteries out and I didn't read any power being sent across the wires (and the motorhome was still plugged into the 110v outlet). Is this motorhome designed to charge the engine batteries while plugged into "shore" power? There is a large power monitor console, and when the motorhome is plugged in to the shore power, I believe it says something like Absortion mode, and it has a high voltage (13-14 volt) reading. I assume it's charging the four 6volt house batteries just fine, as they have power, but I don't know how to see if it's charging the engine batteries. Also, when I realized the batteries were dead, I tried using the battery boost button and that didn't work. Maybe some fuse is blown on the battery boost and engine battery charger? Thanks for any advice.

Slide Out Awning not centered

I have a problem with my bedroom slide out awning. It seems the awning has slided down a few inches in the channel area where it attaches to the motorhome. So when my slide out is retracted in, the rolled up awning overlaps and rolls up almost covering the end of the bar where the spring lever is. I can't seem to slide the awning back to where it should be in that channel where it attaches to the motorhome. I think that is all I need to do in order to center the awning properly over the slide out roller. I am not sure if there is just too much tension on the awning or if the channel is just full of dirt and stuff that is keeping it from sliding a couple of inches in the attachment channel. I don't have picture of what I am talking about unfortunately, but if pictures would help, I can try and post some tomorrow. I assume this is a common problem with slide out awnings, and hopefully there is an easy fix! Thanks!

RE: Ford Chassis Lubrication - 2006 Class A

Thanks for the information! I'll be sure to scour the drive shaft area and look for the fittings.

Ford Chassis Lubrication - 2006 Class A

I have a 2008 National Sea Breeze, but it appears to be sitting on a 2006 Ford Chassis (gas model, not diesel). I say appears, because the Ford owners manual that came with the motorhome claims it's a 2006. I was under the motorhome this weekend changing the oil, and I noticed grease fittings around the steering shaft/steering linkage bar. I have never greased anything on my motorhome, other than my entry steps, so I am going to go buy a grease gun and grease the joints. I counted 6 grease fittings on all the parts associate with the steering controls. My question is, other than these 6 fittings, are there other fittings on my chassis that should get greased? I looked all around but didn't see any more. Thanks!

RE: Entry door flapping in the wind - dead bolts?

I also have this allen wrench type of bolt on my door, just above the latch. The bolt is on the edge of the door, where the dead bold and latch mechanism catch on the door frame. I believe this is some sort of adjustment, but I am not sure what exactly it adjusts.

RE: Entry door flapping in the wind - dead bolts?

I have adjusted the door latch and it's actually so tight it's hard to open and close. The door seals just fine at the latch, but it's the top and bottom of the door that flap around against the screen door and the door jam.
