RE: State parks??

More Georgia trivia -- the COE CGs around Lake Lanier make you initial the driver hang tag that shows your site number. They stamp "No Alcoholic Beverages Allowed" and you initial that stamp.
Hasn't stopped me or got me in trouble in over 7 years at COE CG's. Like everyone else said, "be cool and no issue; get stupid and end up gone"
Lake Allatoona hasn't started that yet, they'er still worried about what kind of dog you have.

RE: Do I need awning clamps?

The Carefree awnings have a much better latch than the A&E's And with the release down on the arms where it can't be flipped by tree branches I never worried about it.

RE: Cherokee, NC to Red Bay, Al.

That’s probably the best way. Only a short distance of US-74 is not 4 lanes. 2 places, along the Nantahala and Ocoee rivers. Most of the road from Russellville AL to Red Bay is 2 lane, and posted 45 MPH, construction zone. They are doing the earth moving and grading for what will be the east bound lanes

RE: ST225 vs. ST205

As a secound spare I wouldn't even worry about the weight rating. It will limp you miles up the road @ 30mph. Better than sitting with a flat tire, or on the rim.

RE: Road conditions I-59 Birmingham to Chattanooga, TN

If you have time and like a more serine drive take HWY-11. Good 2 lane with a few small towns and open country. You can pick it up from I-459 or get on it at Gadsden and back on I-59 at Ft Payne. If I remember correctly the bad section of I-59 is between Gadsden and Ft Payne.
Jim :C
I would get off I-59 at exit 181, AL-77. IIRC this is were ALDOT has the wide load detour posted. The wide load detour goes back to I-59 at exit 205, But I prefer to go on up to Fort Payne at exit 205.

RE: Best Route Biloxi, MS to Smoky Mountains

It's only the section from Gadsden to Fort Payne that's real bad. North of Fort Payne is concrete, but is tolerable.
Noccalula Falls Park is a neat place, but the campground is only just OK. Desoto has a almost new campground with 50amp, sewer, and cable sites. But for a overnight it’s a bit far from I-59

RE: Blowing out the lines

Yes I blow out the antifreez. But I do it right after putting it in. Since we don't see subzero temps I don't care if it get watered down just a bit. There is still some liquid left in the system, but it seems to flush out with less water.

RE: Central Ohio to Smoky Mountains

one reason is my wife has never pulled the camper before so I don't want to throw her out in the mountains for the first time. but it would be nice if she could drive for a couple hours.
The first time my wife pulled a 5’th wheel she forgot we were west of Monteagle. She was nerves, but afterwards she was bragging about it to all the other wives.

RE: Day/Night Driving

I like leaving at 3-4 AM. Traffic is a non-issue, this works real well if we're going south thru Atlanta. The other nice thing is getting to the campground at noon. I don't like getting to the campground after dark.

RE: Why no cheap no frills overnight w/elec offered?

It would not make sense for a destination type park to put in cheap spots. They have already spent the money putting in the pool laundry and bathhouses, and you are paying full price. But it could make sense for Pilot, FJ, Loves or the like to do it. They already have spaces for RV's, put in the electric power and charge $2 hr for it. They want you to stop so they can make the money on the fuel and stuff in their store. If it makes sense to put in the IdleAir for $2 hr, electric hookups should also.

RE: Wheel and tire upgrade - How to complete

I replaced the 225/75 15D with 235/85 16E BFG Commercial TA's on a 07 JayFlight 28.5. I put the springs in the lowest holes and bolted on the wheels. Ran them for 2 years till we traded trailers

Peach Queen was also run down. Grass needed to be cut, and just general lack of maintenance. But it was cheap, and the power was good.

Unincorporated suburban, for now. Downtown Chattanooga is less than 20 miles away.

RE: Alabama help!

Desoto was redone a couple of years back and we havent been there since the over haul. Took them almost a full year to get rebuilt so it probably is real modern uptodate place now. It was great before too...
It's better, and worse. The lower loop was reworked more than upper loop. The sites are larger, more level. And you have all new wiring, which was needed. Plus sewer and cable TV. Some really nice new bathhouses. They also added a 2nd row of pull thru sites. The down side is you don't do that much work without really changing the landscape. Gone is the stonework from the CCC days. And lots of shade. To me the woodsy feel just isn't there anymore.
GA rewired & replumbed the West rim at Cloudland, but you would never know it. They also rebuilt the East rim and timbered the sites, still have most of the shade canopy.

RE: Alabama help!

After you leave Tuscaloosa you could come up I-59 to either DeSoto SP near Fort Payne AL or Cloudland Canyon near Trenton GA. Desoto State Park has 50 amp service WES with cable, Cloudland Canyon has 30 amp WE. Also Monte Sano in Huntsville AL, they have some sewer sites, don't recall if they had 50 or 30 amp electric service

RE: Fifth Wheel With Crew Cab

Both Ford & GM made 150/1500 HD's. Something to look for that may not put you over your GVW cut off. A TT will not put near the weight on the truck that a 5'er does, which is why most of us with 5'er use the HD trucks. It can be done with a 150/1500, but I think it's a safe bet that most are over weight.

Take SC-327 (Williston Rd) north from US-301 to I-95. Adds about 6 miles, but keeps you out of downtown Florence
