RE: Progressive Insurance and This Forum Alike? :)

You all have seen that Progressive Insurance commercial. "You must be living under a rock if you haven’t heard of Progressive Insurance."
This so much reminds me of many of the threads on our beloved Forum.
Some of the posts by people here that have been members for many years (not new members) still baffle my mind. It's as if they joined the Forum yesterday...
You must be living under a rock if you think that's a Progressive commercial. It's a GEICO commercial.

RE: jayco runs out of water with half a tank

Just got the word from a highly respected RV tech, also a member of this forum:
Pick-up tubes have not been used for a long time and the Jaycos, even with tanks mounted below the floor, have the supply port to the pump on the side, near the bottom, just as I had suspected.

Progressive Insurance and This Forum Alike? :)

You all have seen that Progressive Insurance commercial. "You must be living under a rock if you haven’t heard of Progressive Insurance."
This so much reminds me of many of the threads on our beloved Forum.
Some of the posts by people here that have been members for many years (not new members) still baffle my mind. It's as if they joined the Forum yesterday.
People still trying to sell things
People asking about Wal Mart camping
"Can I run with my propane on"
Posting RV questions in the Campfire Forum that states "For Non-RV Related Issues"
Asking for road directions in the wrong Forum
Political threads
"Anyone know the best BBQ grill to use"? (Weber Q, BTW)
Attorney threads
The same post in multiple Forums
"Why was my thread deleted or closed"?
Did I mention Wal Mart threads??!! :Z
Firearms threads............................................
What, do some here live under a rock!!!???????? :B :B
Thanks so very much for discerning moderators! Jobs well done!
(But just don't delete or edit my thread)! :B
Now, can someone please tell me directions to the nearest Wal Mart that has an indoor shooting range with political candidate's pictures as targets and, can I run my refrigerater on gas while I drive there? BTW, I am selling my car and children. Can I advertise them here?
No? Then I'll be speaking with my lawyer !!!!!! :W
And now, because I don't know I can edit and add to this thread, I will continue to post answers in additional new threads about the same subject! :W
Note: This is meant to be sarcastic, funny and light-hearted.

RE: Weight distribution hitch and backing up

It depends on the weight distribution hitch. Some do require you to unhook the WDH before backing up and turning. The two that I have used, the Equalizer and my current Hensley Arrow, do not. You can leave them fully hooked up when backing and turning.
I'd be curious to hear about which ones.
I installed just about every brand when I was doing RV service and don't remember a one that recommended the weight bars be removed when backing.
Think about it........
You need to back-up to get into or out of a spot and there is a need to get out and remove bars and chains. I don't think so.
Now, possibly a friction-type sway bar but in my 35 years of towing with those as well, I have NEVER found the need to remove mine when backing up WHEN THEY ARE PROPERLY INSTALLED. In other words, if the sway control ball is installed in the proper position on the trailer frame, the sway bar will telescope the same distance when turning whether going forwards or backwards. Won't matter.

RE: Manual fridge conversion to auto-light?

THIS could be adapted if you are good with tools.
But, if the fridge is correctally installed and baffled, then there shouldn't be an issue with burner blow-out.
You possibly may have insufficient LPG pressure which could cause a weak flame prone to blowing out.

RE: jayco runs out of water with half a tank

There is no pick-up tube on the inside of a RV water tank.
Water is drawn from a fitting that is spun- welded on the side of the tank at the bottom.
Not so with Jayco
If so, that would surise me since the Jaycos I have worked on all had no pick-up tubes.
Possibly different on a tank that is mounted below the floor level. (?)

RE: Rincon Parkway Camping

Rincon is OK if trains and freeways don't bother you.
I have found Point Mugu's Thornhill Broome State Park much nicer since the train tracks or freeway don't run along the campground.
Same ammenities as Rincon (none), much quieter and a very nice beach.
Not very far away from Rincon and actually closer if you are coming from the South up the 101.

RE: Running AC on less than 30 amp?

I would not run any AC on less than 30A...if you choose to continually run it on less than 30A the long term damage wil become noticeable...
Really? How if the AC only needs 20 amps or less to operate?

RE: jayco runs out of water with half a tank

Check to see where your pump hose enters the tank. The tube on the inside might have fell off or never been put on. Sounds like a dealer thing to me
take care

Interesting, I didn't know that. I always presumed my pick-up tube wasn't on the bottom because my tank only draws down to about 25 gals left. Do you have any pictures?
Look at the picture Here. The large fitting on the top is the tank fill port. The smaller fitting on the top is the overflow port.
The two on the bottom are the supply and drain fittings. No tube inside. This is a typical rV tank and they come in many various sizes but the fitting locations are most always the same.

RE: In my Job search

There is a local HVAC wholesaler that advertises every month in the local trade magazine. My son was looking for work so I called them up and asked about the listed warehouse position. I was told that position isn't available yet their ad has continued for a year, posting that position in every issue of the magazine.
I believe some companies do this just to collect a bunch of applications to have on file should positions ever become available.

RE: Swimming pool pump

If the motor is rated for 115-220 volts, the wiring may indeed have to be changed. The wiring diagrams should be either on the motor or inside the junction box cover.

RE: Coleman replacement for Dometic heat pump

First, Carrier stopped manufacturing RV units a few years ago. Many members have posted here about having a hard time getting parts for these so I suggest you stay away from a Carrier should you find one.
I would stick with the Dometic. If you go with Coleman, the inside ceiling panel and control box will need to be changed which doesn't come with the new unit and the thermostat and possibly the wiring may also be incompatible.
The easiest and most economical thing to do is stick with the Dometic.
OP, how do you know the Coleman lost it's refrigerant charge?

RE: Thermostat upgrade

Just an FYI.......
All of the thermostat companies that manufacture residential thermostats, Honeywell included, will tell you their stats aren't compatible with a 12-volt RV system.
The fact is that any residential thermostat that is battery powered (not hard wired or power stealing) will work. The thermostat doesn't use 12 volts for operation. It uses the internal batteries and all it does is act as a switch with it's internal relays, turning on and off the equipment.
My stat is a White-Rogers back lit, touch screen with auto changeover from heating to cooling and has been working for over two years, only changing batteries once.

RE: Lost Members - Where are they? And why?

I have often thought about posting this query because once in a while, something will trigger a reference to, or a reminder of a certain member and thats when I realize, Gee whiz, I have not seen them here for a long time.
A day or two ago someone asked if anyone has seen firedude, and I realized I have not seen any of his posts in a long while. That's what prompted me to post this thread.
Once in a while I will search a member and see when the last time they posted, sometimes it has been a year or two or more. Kind of a shame, some of them always had something intelligent and kind to say for a newbie who asks the simplest of questions that have been asked a zillion times before.
Las Vegas Mikey has not been here for a long time, but I have kept in contact with him for the past few years by email.
I have spoken with Firedude a number of times since he left this forum. He is doing ok considering some issues he has dealt with last year.
I plan to see him next month where he resides.

RE: Cooling unit advice

That space needs to be filled. Why not just slice off the piece that pulled out and is still attached to the cooling unit and glue it back into the void?
