RE: Freightliner POP Noise

If your jacks are HWH try squirting a little bit of oil on the big pins on the jack cylinders that they hang from and push on. There is a big pin on both sides of the cylinder near the bottom with a plate with two bolts holding it in.
The cylinders are not rigid mounted and can move in about a 6 degree arc. They may be just popping as they move on the pins. Mine do it once in a while.

RE: Power Outlet

If your TC doesn't have a built in inverter a power plug inverter will work just fine. I use a 100w max 75w continuous one for my DW's Dell.

RE: black streaks on Aluminum siding

Spic and Span liquid cleaner-the orange stuff. Mix a good strong solution and use your long handled wash brush. The streaks will vanish. I use a weed sprayer to wet things down with the soap solution.

RE: HWH Jack

Very common issue with HWH jacks. There are two composite bushings inside the jack that swell up and the piston gets tight. I just went through this exact issue with the coach in my sig we bought a month ago. All four were not retracting.
If you are at all mechanically inclined the jacks are easy to remove. Unplug the switch wire on top - disconnect the hose on top - stick a pry bar through the bottom hook of one spring and pry it down and it will disengage from the pad - loosen the two 3/8" bolts that hold the plates that are holding the pins at the bottom enough so you can spread the two plates and the jack will drop right out. 10 minutes work after you study what is required.
Contact a local hydraulic repair shop and ask specifically if they have a history of fixing this tight bushing problem with HWH jacks. The shop that fixed mine said they slightly bored the bushings out to regain the needed clearance. The first shop I took a jack to spent two hours labor and could not get it apart. The second shop when they saw what I had just laughed and said they see those all the time and for about $200.00 each they fixed them and they work fine now.

RE: SHOCKS! Let's get technical

You specify springs in your question. Many motorhomes have air ride. My last coach was a 32' Gulfstream Sun Voyager DP. The problem with the ride and it came new with Bilstein shocks was the front end porpoised something terrible on uneven roads. I put a set of Koni FSD shocks on the front only and it made a totally different coach out of it. FSD's are expensive but worth every nickel. I don't have enough miles on the Sportscoach Elite to be sure yet but I am betting it will get FSD's on the front also.

RE: Power Converter... WWYD?

If your present converter is single stage you would be wise to replace it with some brand of three stage. Randy at bestconverters.com can advise you on what is the best for your application.

RE: tranny fluid

For towing if Ford approves it synthetic is the way to go. Much better dealing with the higher temperatures towing can cause. Allison recommends synthetic in all their transmissions.

RE: RV buying advice towards next RV purchase

One thing you will run into is if you need bank financing they are VERY reluctant to loan money on any kind of recreational vehicle right now.
We just bought the coach in my sig. It had been on the lot all summer and had five buyers that wanted it bad. Banks would not qualify any of them. We didn't need financing and bought it for 1/3 off their asking price (Less than $80,000).
The manager said it is getting so bad for financing the banks are to the point they only want to loan money to folks that don't need to borrow.
If you don't need to borrow you can make some great buys.

RE: Battery Meter

I bought this little meter on E-bay. They are always there. About $15.00. I put a switch above it. It is 0-20vdc

RE: HELP!!! Dropped object in toilet

Another "maybe" if you have access to a shopvac with a 3" hose. Drain the tank and put the shopvac hose on the "Blow" opening of the shopvac and stick the hose into the drain connection where the slinky goes and see if you can blow the can back to where you can get ahold of it. Tap on the piping while you are blowing.

RE: Changing drum brakes to disk brakes

We will assume you are talking about changing the brakes on your RV not your TV. What will you gain for the cost and worked involved? Do you have exceptional stopping requirements that the drum brakes will not satisfy? Could it be the drum brakes are not working correctly?

RE: Solar panels, batteries and computer

Your 15w solar panel will produce 15w under full sun for 5-6 hours in the middle of the day at the very best. All other conditions -time of day, trees or other obstructions, clouds will get you less. Solar is not a very reliable source of power. A cloudy day you will likely get nearly nothing.

RE: New RV Owner - Question about propane tank life

You will have no problem with propane running out if you are starting with a full tank. Depending on where you are camping you will most likely not be able to run your generator at night unless you are all by yourself in the boonies. Most campgrounds restrict generator use to 8 am to 9pm.
