RE: camper fire

WOW!! I can't even imagine, so so sorry for the loss, I think I would feel violated if that happened to us.

RE: It happened again!

I have a 22k Reese hitch, this is how I hook up. I always make sure the trailer is a bit lower than the fifth wheel so when I back up the trailer actually lifts a bit onto the fifth wheel and I can see the handle move out then in. I get out of the truck to make sure the jaws are wrapped around the king pin. Sometimes I do a pull test to make sure it's locked but not always & so far knock on wood I haven't had any issues.

RE: New Member with New (used) Toyhauler

Get a set of walkie talkies so your better half can guide that long sucker into low hanging tree limbs! LOL!!!!! Make wide turns, and if you are backing into a camping spot give yourself a lot of extra room. Most importantly "DO NOT" yell at your better half when she is helping, you bought that long ass thing dummy not her :) Have fun! Too funny but so true. :B Owning our behemoth sure has put our marriage to the test in regards to backing into sites. :W

RE: New Montana Mountaineer 346LBQ Home! w/ inside photos

Very nice rig but there's only one problem, I'd love to see some inside pics. ;)

RE: Toyhaulers by Jayco?

Seriously hope you're not questioning Jayco's quality & service based on the "Lady's" post?? She probably doesn't even own a Jayco product but yet she is bad mouthing it. Every RV out there has little issues that need addressed at times so as long as your ok with that than RV'ing is good for you. As to what mfg's are of lower or better quality depends on who responds. I say Excel & Jayco are on top & all the rest are below, but hey that's just my opinion right? ;)

RE: Toyhaulers by Jayco?

JR, you're a lot smarter person than I am, it took me going through two toyhaulers before I got into a Jayco toyhauler, you're doing it right the first time around. ;) You will be happy with a Jayco, we love our Recon.

RE: What I've learned on RV.net

I'm in tears laughing, all the while driving my 86 Ford Ranger towing my 44' toy hauler over Red Mtn pass in Colorado while reading this post then typing a response to this post on my iPad too. ;)

RE: What a trip

I love story's like this, if you can do it why not? Some folks procrastinate and then something happens or comes up and it's to late. I live by the motto, "why wait until tomorrow if you can do it today"', life's to short as it is. I almost got sidetracked - congrats on the new rigs ;)

RE: Durango from Missouri......

We'll be in Silverton July 3rd thru that Sunday and staying at Silverton Lakes Campground at the end of town, yes, you're allowed to ride out of the campground which accesses miles of trails. We're staying at a campground in lieu of roughing it because my wife's grandparents live in Silverton so we'll be visiting them also. Hope to see some of you there, we'll be the ones in the Jayco Recon, can't miss us.

RE: Durango from Missouri......

Diesel engines do not have engine braking like gas vehicles. Hence exhaust brakes, jake brakes and in your case transmission grade braking. Go slow on the downhill and use tow haul with light brake usage and you will be perfectly fine. Beautiful area up here. And the million dollar highway between Silverton and Ouray is interesting. No guardrails in steep spots and some real sharp switchbacks. But they take big rigs through there. I'd drive it for fun. :) Mav Been over that pass so many times towing doubles (70'+ long), it really is no biggy, just don't go over the white line, that is the point of no return. Folks think to much into it, average speed is 25 through the switchbacks, very few areas where you can get up to 55 towing that is.

RE: Durango from Missouri......

Take it easy and downshift (if I tap the brakes on my truck, it downshifts) so you hardly use your brakes, you'll be fine. The Durango, Silverton, Ouray is my favorite riding area. My wife's grandparents live in Silverton so will be up there over the 4th of July.

RE: Is Rving for us? Are we alone or are there others....

Looking to PT retire on 1/1/2013. Thinking FW TH RVing. But see so many non active, non athletic types at campgrounds, don't get me wrong, very nice folks, just not physically athletic lifestyle, at least not what we see. We both run marathons, road bike, kyak, play tennis, hike, motorcycle among other activities. Not sure how we'd 'fit into a campground crowd'. We will plan our routes around athletic events (week long bikes rides, marathons, etc.). We're looking at this lifestyle for us, are there other like minded folks out there doin these activities or are we crazy? Maybe we should just buy a condo in St. Pete and enjoy the beach at Clearwater. Amy-52/Terry-55 By the way you're portraying yourself in this post?? Yep, you probably won't fit with the toyhauler crowd, we don't judge other folks. :B

RE: How fast do you tow your 5'er

Anywhere from 1mph to 75mph, depending on where I'm towing at the time. ;)

RE: R V Insurance

We have Progressive, cheaper than anyone else we've checked into, no deductible, full replacement within the first five (5) years and it includes pet insurance.

RE: Best built toy hauler?

Arctic fox/Nash, Newmar, Carriage, New Horizons, Jayco, NUWA, Excell are a few that either build their own frames or don't use Lippert. There are also some brands that use Lipperts that are specifically engineered to the toy hauler manufacturers engineering specs..more robust. Sooperdooty How can you state time and time again that Jayco does not use a Lippert frame? Have you looked at a Jayco lately? They say Lippert right there on the pin box. In fact in talking with a rep from Jayco he told me in 2011 they moved frame production from the old Dexter building to a existing Lippert factory. I am sure that the current Jayco's are as much a Lippert frame as any other RV with a Lippert frame. My 2011 Jayco Recon says Dexter on it but then again maybe it's a re-badged Lippert frame. :B

RE: Do you still love your old truck?

Love, love my truck, I know it's not old but it's the longest I've owned a truck and I plan on owning it for a long time. Oh it's a 2008 F-450,
