RE: Where to cross the Blue Ridge PWY?

I'd check your maps and cross the BRP wherever there's an interstate as many of the secondary roads can be brutally steep and twisty..

RE: Details on whale watching Gaspe Quebec....

favorite place to see whales, and/or a favorite place on the Gaspe? Favorite place to see whales. I would say Tadoussac but its a bit out of the way if you are going around the Gaspe, Favorite place in Gaspe? Parc Forillon, particularly the south side(Left side in photo) through Grand Greve to the end of the road then the hours hike out to the lighthouse at the very eastern point.Which you can just make out in This photo http://www.airphotona.com/stockimg/images/03114.jpg

RE: Details on whale watching Gaspe Quebec....

Although you can go on Whale watching tours all around the Gaspe the Best Whale watching would be that area of the St Laurence river between Tadoussac on the north side and Trois pistoles on the south side. as most of the whale watching tours can last 3 hours or more i'd avoid the Zodiac type boats as theres no provision for bathrooms and weather can be cold and windy.. Last summer we went on a larger boat out of Tadoussac Dufour. and were treated to a boat with 3 levels including restaurant and bar and lots of bathrooms, on the four hour trip we saw at least 30-40 whales that came in 5 varieties and a seal colony behind the round lighthouse. There are many ferries that traverse the river if you wanted to head out of Tadoussac, the Tadoussac hotel is highly recommended.

RE: Best route through DC/Baltimore

I usually take I-895 through the tunnel, then I-295 (Blt/Wshn Pkwy) then around Washington on I-495 following signs for Richmond. I have tried the 301 rt but way to many small towns and dozens of traffic lights that i dont think make it any faster.

RE: Squatting at the Whitehorse Wal-Mart - year round!

Expect a new Rv parking regulation in that Whitehorse Walmart in the near future banning Rv's outright or curtailing their length of stay in the parking lot. These squatters are an example of a few spoiling it for the many..

RE: Cross country with no interstates?

Doing the backroads is fine if you have the time.. but as an example if you were going from east coast to west coast i'd use the interstates to get to at least New Mexico then get back on the interstates east of the Rockies to get home. If time isnt a constraint i'd only use interstates to get around some of the larger urban areas.

RE: US Passport Card

Is getting a passport that expensive that it should even be an issue? If American bureaucracy wants this Canadian boy to show a passport then i'll pay the cost and if i cant afford the cost then i cant afford to drive $40K's worth of camping equipment all over N.America. The cost broken down yearly equals pocket change..

RE: Izod IndyCar World Championship in Las Vegas

Very sad to hear of Dan's passing.. That said the racing itself is as safe as it gets as the last Indycar death i can remember was Greg Moore in 1994 and in F1 has any one died since Ayrton Senna also in 1994. !0 years since a NASCAR crash with DE taking the final ride. Its a dangerous sport and once in a while it all goes wrong. We'll miss you Dan..

RE: age related tenting question

We currently have a pop-up and are thinking about going back to a tent. I am wondering how old are the people that are tent camping. I am 52 and my husband is 67 but he actually moves very well. The reason we left tent camping is that we could afford to at the time, and also I could not get off the ground very easy. Due to a knee replacement and losing 95lbs that is a non issue. I need a new vehicle and am not interested in spending the money it would take to get a vehicle that tows a pop-up. I am thinking about going back to a tent and getting a regular car. Any thoughts on this? Try camp cots, its a lot easier to get up off the ground if you are already a foot and a half elevated to start with..

RE: Advice from Canadians who head south.

Most direct route Snow would be unlikely at that time of year (November)but do budget a few days layover into the trip down just in case eh!. Another possibility That will only add a few hours to the trip ..

RE: Norh or south long term road trip

Guess it would depend to some extent on whether you want your trip to get hotter and hotter(North to South)or to stay somewhat milder(south to North).

RE: Reading NHRA this weekend

As we drove from Montreal we only watched the event on Saturday, fortunately the rain never came and we had a good time. My two buddies who had never been to a drag race were very impressed with the top fuel machines, especially on the second round when we were watching it from the pit side finishing line..:E
