RE: vents diverting

it was a pita to get to the reservoir with the van at work. the heater box and battery needed to be removed. the inner part of the fender was metal. on the trucks it is plastic and can be removed. my problem stopped after adding another check valve.

RE: Class C with V10 engine

I previously had a 31 ft Jayco Greyhawk on a E450 chassis with the V10 and I towed a 2005 wrangler. My average mileage, both flat and mountainous, was about 7.5 mpg. On flat land I might get 8.0 to 8.5, but in the mountains, I would drop to as low as 6.0 mpg. I have never been one to BRAG about high mileage; I just try to tell the truth no matter how much it hurts. Wish you the best in whatever decision you make. Be safe and have fun. Ray I second this. except i tow a cherokee...

RE: vents diverting

i had to work on a e series van at work. the vacuum reservoir and check valve is under the heater case just above the fender. the a/c had to be drained, coolant drained. remove evaporator and heater core. remove both the evaporator case and heater case. it was a p.i.t.a. to say the least.

RE: vents diverting

yes they do have a reservoir. its under the heater case behind the engine battery. They also have a check valve. Otherwise when you go heavy throttle the engine is under a load and cannot produce enough vacuum to run accesories like the a/c vents. if it didn't have a reseroir or check valve, the air coming from the vents would change to the defroster and floor vents every time you "punch it" to get onto the freeway.

RE: vents diverting

i installed another check valve where the engine vacuum hose ties into the a/c vacuum hose just above the battery. I also tied in another reservoir into the new check valve.

RE: vents diverting

i have already installed the new reservoir, I was curious if anyone knew where the original one was. it looks like the only place it could be is under the heater case in the engine compartment. of course you cant see under there even with removing the battery and battery tray.

RE: Fuel MPG

on a recent trip of 4000 miles we averaged 6.5 mpg towing our jeep and generator powering roof a/c. Last summer 7000 mile trip a/c NEVER shut off from when we left home. we were gone for 4 weeks, not towing we got 7.5 mpg. I try to stay at speed limit or 2-3 mph below so i dont get bothered by police.

vents diverting

On our most recent trip we found our a/c diverting from the registers to the defroster and floor vents. This happened on long grades but didn't do it on all the hills. My first reaction is the vacuum check valve for the a/c or there is a crack in the vacuum reservior. Has anybody else ran into this problem. I bought a new reservoir and check valve to change them just for good measure but can't locate them on the motorhome. I found the vacuum hose that goes to the a/c just above the heater case. I found where it comes thru the firewall inside, followed them sortof up to the control. I can't find the check valve or reservior though. please help...

RE: USGear Unified Tow brake

we have this brake system and love it. plug in and go. very trouble free. the best thing i like about it is you dont have to find a place to store the big box that is common to the other units

RE: Driving from CA to VA.

you can also use the aaa website under driving directions. put in your starting location and ending location. in the "show" pulldown menu click on campgrounds. when you zoom in to a certain zoom level it will show you lodging, attractions, campgrounds, whatever you click on to show.

RE: Blown E450 engine after only 19,600 miles

sorry for the troubles. sounds like maybe the oil pump let go. 11k seems quite high. ive done many southwind class a m/h engines, chevy 454, we would only install gm crate engines with the works. i've also done several class c motorhomes both ford v10, 460 and chevy 454, 11k seems high.

RE: Took the plunge...

we used my parents fifth wheel towing an atv trailer behind that. bought our m/h 2 years ago and haven't been happier. we tow a jeep most of the time and i havent used atvs in a while. check out motorhome magazine, they have a dinghy tow guide that tells the modifications if needed to tow different vehicles. i highly recommend adding auxilary brakes of some sort to your towed vehicle. we haven't looked back since buying our m/h. we have been from los angeles to kennedy space center and back we really like that our vacation starts the minute we leave our house as opposed to once we get where we were going like when you're towing a trailer.
