RE: Toyo Tires

We ran Toyo's for 7 years and liked them alot. 275's. Moved over to Sumitoma's because of price and availability at the time to change.
Been running Sumi's for two years and like them a lot also. Price drives my choice and either are good. I personally can not afford Michelin, so I look for the best buy.
Hope you find what you need.....Arnold

RE: Vaccums

We have a Bissel (SP?). Bought it at Walmart after trying several. Priced around $40.00. No bag wind tunnel. Handle comes off for easy storing and does a good job on carpet. Hose also comes off to clean crevices with attachments.
It does a very good job at a reasonable price. Hope you find what you need....Arnold

RE: dead house batteries

If the batteries are dead as you say, I would pull out my portable electric battery charger we all carry (just kidding) just in case and hook it up to each battery and charge it. Check the fluid level and the charge left in each battery with a digital multimeter before charging. If they are over one point below normal they may not come up with the gen or alternator trying to charge them.
If you are in a park, you might find a camper who has a battery charger and a tester just in case you don't. A battery that is really down may not recover well from running your engine or generator. If you don't have a charger, check your local Walmart for a good 6-12 volt charger. They can be a very good purchase.
I'm with the other posts who would prefer the generator to the engine but I really would prefer the charger if it is posible. Best of luck in getting things back to normal....Arnold

RE: '99 Ford F 53 V10 straining up hills

My 1999 Bounder with the V10 was a workhorse in the mountains. Spent time to Alaska and back and all over the western mountains and at between 3500-4000 RPM towing we were always around 40 MPH even on the steepest grade. If your 275 HP V10 won't perform like that, then it certainly needs looking at.
Best to you as you seek a solution....Arnold

RE: What do you think about Bounders???

We drove a 1999, 34 foot Bounder to Alaska, all over the western mountains, through the midwest and to Florida and back. Over 30000 miles on the V10 with the Ford chassis. Besides regular maintenance (oil change every 10000 miles, grease job and tire check) I never had any need to take her to a shop. If I had kept it, I would have seriously thought of putting a Gear Venders tranny in to help traveling in the Mountains. We had no slide and could have really used the extra space. Soooo I went out and bought a DP with a slide. The Bounder was a great ride for all those miles... i don't think you could go wrong with the Kangaroo....Arnold

RE: Uphill downhill

I ran a 99 Bounder with the V10 to Alaska and back as well as several trips to Yellowstone and in the western mountains. I was always very comfortable with the RPMs around 3700 up and no more than 4200 down the mountains. We always had a toad but kept the RPMs down well below 5000. I always went by the way the engine sounded and it sounded good to me around 3700-4200. Just my thoughts.....Arnold

RE: Replacing Air Dryer on Diesels

I got mine from NAPA $124.33. (Haldex) As you can see , I have a 1999 coach and the tech said that unless the pressure switch that blows off when the air is up cycles often, the dryer probably didn't need changed. But, since my coach was so old I hsd him chamge it out.
After the changeout, the tech said my old dryer was still okay to go. I understand prevention is best so good luck in finding the correct dryer. I think I called freightliner direct to find the correct number.....Arnold

RE: 4 down Honda Odyssey 2006

fCooper I don't wnat to mess up the post, but, yes, I am on the original transmission and it has never been serviced. I took it in at about 100,000 miles and the tech told me to leave it alone since those transmissions don't like to be disturbed. He said sometimes after servicing, they have a tendency to go out and since mine had not been serviced before, it was best to leave it alone. I know I am probably on borrowed time but I am truly at 175,000 miles and still going....Arnold

RE: 4 down Honda Odyssey 2006

I have towed a 2001 Odyssey since 03 and have (knock on wood) never had a problem with towing. I agree with the posts on the prep procedure and would add that I always make sure the engine temp comes up to normal before I shift through the gears. My procedure is start, warm up engine, then shift to lowest gear and allow about 30 seconds in each gear as I shift eventually back up to D4 , then into neutral. Again in neutral 30 seconds and turn it off. Make sure to turn off everything inside. I then go thru the same procedure each time I stop for longer than 20 minutes or so.( Fuel, lunch, etc.) I now have 175,000 on my Odyssey and have had very good service from the car.

RE: Best Support Vehicle For Class A Motor Home

Your question was a very good one and as you noticed by the replies everyone has an opinion about what vehicle to tow. I would recommend that you get one that can be towed four wheels down instead of messing with a trailer or a dolly. The next thing I look for is the lightest weight that fits my needs and one that gets good mileage for those side trips we always like to take.
We tow a 2001 Odyssey now but used to tow an Accord. Both are great but of course the Accord was lighter. We have the Odyssey to haul around more grandchildren.
Best to you as you look for just the right vehicle....

RE: Emergency situation... how to get Rv back to Canada

There are many questions unanswered in this post. Where in Florida? Where in Canada? Does he have a tow? Need Passport to go into Canada. What is the need for the MH in Canada since it can be stored in Florida? Do they need it to live in in Canada? What will insurance cover concerning another driver? My wife and I would be willing to take it up except we have no passport and others may be closer since we are in Texas. We pray that all goes well and trust that the right solution will be found. Keep us posted..
Sorry for the post as I didn't realize a solution had been found. Good deal.

RE: Parks in NorthEast NM - South CO

If you are looking to just stay the night north of Amarillo, you might consider Dumas. They have a very nice city park with hookups and you can make a donation for the night's stay. The park is on the north side of the road just about two blocks after you turn west to go to Dalhart on Hwy 87. That is a fairly easy run from Dallas on the first day and gets you on your way easily.
I would agree that your trip has a lot of travel in it and not many days for relaxing and fishing/hiking. Any way you go, we wish you safe and happy travels.

RE: What was your Occupation??????

My bride worked in the schools as an elementary teacher for 22 years and I retired after 38 years as a teacher, coach, and Central Administration Officer in three different school districts.
We anxiously wait for God to bring us a buyer for our house so we can join those on the road who love traveling as we do. We have already seen and camped in all the lower 48 as well as Canada and Alaska, but would love to continue moving on and making new friends.
As owners of an older DP, we would agree that it is not necessary to spend lots of money for a high dollar RV.
We would also like to extend our "Thank You" to those of you who have served in the military and law enforcement and are enjoying life on the road.........Arnold

RE: Motor Home Specialists Texas

We have purchased two Motorhomes from them since 2002 and have always found them to be very professional in their approach to sales. We were never pressured and walk-thru after sales was very thorough. We purchased one unit they owned and the last was a consignment. We were treated very well on both sales. In fact the salesman had the seller put new starter batteries on our last purchase ( A DP) and helped us negotiate a better price from the seller than what was listed. Our salesman's names was Robert ? . I think he is now in management as he has been there a long time. After each sale, I was told to call if I had any questions or problems they could help with. I had to make several calls and they were always courteous in responding to my questions. I think if you talk to "Cowboy", you will find him to be helpful as you shop with them. Happy shopping......Arnold

RE: triton V 10 motorhome gas

We drove a 35ft Bounder V10 to Alaska and back making several trips to Wyoming and Florida from Texas. I was really happy with the coach. I noticed that I got a "push" from the big trucks as they came around and it was tough to drive in the big winds but otherwise it was great for us. The V10 is a good performer though I would have checked into a Gear Venders overdrive system. I think it would be of great help in the mountains. Reason for trade: I wasn't smart enough to buy a MH with a slide when I purchased the Bounder. The DP ride is better but the V10 chassis was acceptable and would be my choice if I were not going to be heavily into RVing.
