RE: gooseneck versus 5th wheel hitch

I understand. Too many generalities for me but I'm not going to convert to a gooseneck on my fifth wheel just because there are enough manufacturers that say don't do it and so why fight it. I appreciate hearing what everyone has to say on this forum and I've learned at lot.

RE: gooseneck versus 5th wheel hitch

Well, I happen to agree with you, jwduke, but I don't think comparing our recreational vehicles to over-the-road trucks is comparing apples to apples, and unless I missed something, the notice in that link doesn't say why a gooseneck adaptation is bad, just that they will consider it a modification and not cover warranty--at least I think that's what it said. Maybe it has something to do with fifth wheel trailers not being as sturdily built as (most) gooseneck trailers because they aren't designed to carry livestock among other things.

RE: gooseneck versus 5th wheel hitch

I don't know if this is the place to post this but I have a B&W Companion hitch ordered for the fifth wheel I'm taking delivery on next week. Used one previously but the fifth wheel was really too light for the truck (Dodge 3500 4WD diesel, etc.) and was not level so the chucking was awful. Leveling the trailer by having the springs put on top of the axles (?) helped a lot but not enough to keep me from selling and going to a motor home. The fifth wheel I am buying has a TrailAir (I think) king pin (not sure term is correct). What is the opinion on this combination? Do I need an air ride system in the truck rather than the companion? Also, with the Companion hitch available, why would anyone want to take a chance and convert their fifth wheel to gooseneck? Convenience? My other half wanted to do it and I wouldn't let him because the mfg said it would void the trailer warranty. Good 'nuf for me!

Looking for park in Palm Harbor Area, Florida

We are going there for some kayak fishing and lessons and area is convenient and safe, we're told. Don't want a junky park but don't need amenities other than clean showers and maybe laundry. Pool, clubhouse, etc. not necessary. Love State Parks, and the prices are good, but I don't think there are any near Palm Harbor area. Any recommendations, and past experience, will be appreciated. Thanks, Pam

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

I was on one of my many horse-camping trips with a motor home we had a long time ago. While I was out riding, a line came loose or blew, and all the water was pumped out of my tank and the pump burned up. It was a snooty all ladies ride but they let my husband come and replace my pump and the line. Fortunately, the location of the break in the line, or where it came loose, allowed the water to flow mostly to the outside so no damage. Maybe pumps are different now but that has been my experience. We totally dry camped on those rides.

I agree with doing laundry as I go. And can read a book while it's being done and not go home with loads of smelly, dirty laundry. There are always plenty of other things to do after a long trip.

Dish drainer cloth. I never thought of putting it in the sink. I keep a wood rubber backed cutting board on my stove top and the dish drainer cloth on that. When I use the stove, I obviously move the top and the cloth with it. Then, I clean the stove first, put everything back, and drain my dishes there. The smaller of the two sizes from Bed Bath and Beyond works for me. $4.99, I think. I also use the microfiber bath mat and it's very absorbent and dries quickly. The smallest size, again from BB%B fits in my RV bath. They both wash and dry well but I use cold water and low heat.

I've seen the pet towels in microfiber at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I like the microfiber because they dry fast and don't get that mildew smell. we don't mind patting dry--sure beats drip drying--and they take up a lot less storage space.

Bed, Bath and Beyind carries the dish drying mats $4.99. I put it on top of the stove-top cutting board from Camping World. It extends my counter space and doubles as a dish drying area.
